Edgar Davids sez NO

It's still spurious maths unless he actually has any knowledge of balancing the books at a major sporting club.

Ofcourse it is spurious Maths! I've plucked the 20k a week thing out of the air!

BUT, i don't need to know how much we would make on the average ticket. I'm only interested in the increases in marginal cost and marginal revenue. The cost increases of hosting an extra 10k are going to be negligible (When you have already invested in the infrastructure to do so. i.e we already have manned club shop/ticket office every day, we already have stewards in every exit of the ground, we already have workers at every food till, a man on every ticket gate) and the revenues great.

Well, obviously not even Davids can match the genius of the Kermo.

One thing I wonder about, is what role they want Davids to play? Wellens is a kind of Davids player (not saying they are on the same level, just that they play a similar role), King is doing OK lately as a defensive midfielder. Oakley is now playing as RM. Are they just thinking about Davids as a squad player? £20,000 is a lot for a player to sit on a bench.

As much as I love Davids, I can only think of one example of an aging legend doing well at City, and that's Les Ferdinand. All the others I can think of were pretty crap.

Cottee, Speedie, Marshall...Shall I go on ?....YOUR MEMORY'S NOT THE BEST IS IT?

As far as I know he doesn't have a club at all at the moment. We don't have such strict registration windows in England like they do in Germany and Italy so theoretically you can sign uncontracted players outside of the transfer window.

If FM is to be believed there are deadlines for free transfers but I don't know specifically how that works and it's usually much, much later in the season.

Last week in November or early December I think.

Policing? Security? Staff to cater and clean? I'm no more of an expert on this shit than you so we're both just blowing it out of our arses but I can't imagine it's as simple as your sell X make Y maths.

Brian Deane was good, I was a big fan of his.

I highly doubt we will sign him though. I mean for a foreign footballer to come across to this country and get offered the same wages at 2 difference clubs and he sees 1 is in the Premiership and one is in the Championship... Well theres only going to be one winner.

Of course its not. But it's pretty obvious that the marginal profit of tickets between 22k and 32k is going to be pretty high, most of the infrastructure is fixed cost (Policing cost probably go up in line with attendances). I was just pointing out that with empty capacity and high ticket prices, Davids could plausibly pay for his wages pretty quickly. When Mandaric says that Leciester City can afford this he certainly doesn't mean from his own pocket, he means he thinks he can make some money out of this deal!

Isn't there some money to be had in his image rights too?

Allegedly he'll "retain the majority of his image rights" which means we can stick him on the occasional poster in the club shop and that's about it. :P

I agree with this. If Davids did sign then we would get a surge in attendances IMO, maybe only for the first few home games depending on how we play and if we win but also we would get a fair bit of publicity from media and other clubs supporters. Not to mention that shirt sales with his name on it will increase too. All in all I don't think we would actually be 'wasting' any money if we sign him.

And pay him for the privilege!

People may not mlike the idea of his wages being 20k but we have been paying more than that for someone who hasnt even been playing - 23k to DJ. I personally would offload him, get Davids in and we would actually be SAVING money.

increased ticket sales, Davids gear, and we would be quids in!

fooking hell Lou, why do you think I used question marks.

And from your reply can I take it that you though Stan was crap?

How very dare YOU!

But Portsmouth aren't interested.

Nearly fell off the treadmill when this came on skysportsnews in the gym! Would love us to have one of the top midfielders in the game (10 years ago).

Is Pearson onboard with this?

Fair enough, Cotte is a great example. But Collymore? He was only 29 when we signed him, hardly "aging".

And Ian Marshall was only 30 when he joined us, and David Speedie isn't exactly what I call a legendary player, but I appreciate where you're coming from.

EDIT: Brian Deane was good too. I understand a lot of older players have come in and done a job, but I'm referring more to world class legends like Mancini, N'Gotty coming here - and either being shit or effing off.
