I'd rather do a self colonoscopy than wish Spurs well. Portsmouth are the lesser of the two evils, so I hope they win.

Gareth Bale got incredible athleticism. What a player.

Hoping Pompey nick this as the underdogs, but I must admit that an all-London Chelsea-Spurs final would be the far better spectacle more inkeeping with the tradition of the competition.

lol WHAT?!

Exactly what I was thinking. WHAT!?!?! I'm a bit of a traditionalist me, and I think what is in more in keeping with the tradition of the competition, would be the team that wins the semi-final goes to the final. If Pompey hold on to this, it won't be a walk in the park for Chelsea, most those players will be off in the summer, they'll wanna go out in a blaze of glory, no pressure. Will be a good game.

I reckon this ref's got a pompey shirt on under his black one.

Palacios clearly clipped his heel bringing him down before he 'won' the ball.

Penalty.

Chelsea Double then.

AFIE is right, Spurs - Chels would have been a spectacle whereas this will be a walk over, still fair play to Pompey pleased for them.

Great stuff Pompey, worked their bollocks off.

Can't see them beating Chelsea, but then i didn't give them a prayer today so who knows.

Thank Christ we don't have to suffer an over-hyped Cockney bore-fest.

Now we have a genuine under-dog with something to play for. None of other 'better than Pompey' sides could beat Chelsea or qualify for the final - sides who'd roll over and play dead for John Terry. Pompey are going to go out fighting; even if they don't win at least it now makes a match I'm prepared to watch.

Pompey were superb I thought, defended heroically and created plenty of chances of their own in the process.

Special mention to Gareth Bale for Spurs though, I thought he was terrific all game.

I've got to agree, I would much rather a David Vs Goliath final.

Portsmouth have won on merit and no one should take that away from them. I really hope Pompey win this now after all the shite their fans have had to put up with. Not sure a campaign in Europe will help them in the championship though.

They won't be allowed in Europe. You have to have some UEFA licence, which you only get by filing account, and they haven't.

That's shit for Pompey. Winning any doemstic cup should mean automatic entry to Europe regardless.

So who would take their place? Obviously not Chelsea (Champions League). One of the losing semi finalists? either of which could be in Europe on merit via the league anyway...

They arent going to win the cup anyway... not a chance in hell. Especially as they cant play half their 1st team due to the financial implications of the bonuses kicking in.

Didnt they bring a rule in saying that the cup winners place in europe goes via league position now rather than finalists. (Obviously if the cup winners qualify by other means)

What I meant by my earlier post was that in terms of the spectacle that an all-London Cup final at Wembley brings, it would be more of a shot in the arm for the tradition of the Cup (as in clubs taking in more seriously next season as a result, in turn helping to restore it to its mantle of being the greatest club Cup competition in the world), than Chelsea v Portsmouth will be.

I'm not denying that Portsmouth's isn't a great underdog story which is also inkeeping with the values we associate with the competition and most of the nation (and the world for that matter) will be rightly cheering them on come Final day.

However, being realistic here (a rarity for me), it will probably be a Chelsea walkover and as a final would only be remembered if Portsmouth upset the odds and won it.

Liverpool will find their way into Europe somehow.

shame. That does seem rather harsh.

With dundee utd beating raith in the scottish fa cup semi earlier pompey could have been playing ross county in the europa league seeing as dundee utd are just about into europe through the league.
