dandannieldanok Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 McGivern 6 - Solid enough. Some unfair criticism on here. "Solid" is the worst word to use to describe Ryan McGivern. Solid full-backs stop wingers raiding down their side and stop crosses coming in, McGivern fails spectacularly on both. Wayne Routledge will slaughter this guy on Friday.

Totally agreed, McGivern was dreadful...one of the worst individual performances I have seen in a while. Often out of position and got done for pace easily. So many times he was beaten very easily. We need some swiss action on Friday or we are going to be in real trouble. I would even be tempted to put Dyer on the left as extra cover and move Gally up front in place of Waggy or Fryatt.
davieG Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 One thing you can always guarantee about fans they all see the game and the players performances differently and a bet it's rare that anyone of them sees it the same as the manager.
Simo86 Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 Andy King reminded me of Where's Wally last night. He was very hard to find at times

Nige might have viewed it differently if he'd been watching from the pub on Sky too
davieG Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 Nige might have viewed it differently if he'd been watching from the pub on Sky too for sure but it still would be as different as everybody else's is.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 Mc Givern - 0 don't see how he can ever recover from that performance, it's one of the worst I've ever seen in a City shirt. He looked and played like one of Blackburn's swine flu victims with added aids Everything good about his play linked back to balls ups he made in the first place. I feel like I watched a professional suicide last night.Maybe he's a lucky charm because by some miracle we haven't conceded when he's played. ??? - Seriously are you retarded?
sdb Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 I thought Fryatt held the ball up quite well I did too, was the bast part of his game last night. Got into good positions too, just should've taken one of his chances. Slows attacks down at times though and he has to improve on that if he wants to get out of this league.

Well if Pearson can't see that McGivern is an awful left-back and not a patch on Berner then he's either very blinkered or a simply a fool. Of course managers and fans see it differently a lot of the time but in this case I just don't think it would be right for Pearson to see it any other way than the general consensus on here. ??? - Seriously are you retarded? Obviously a rating of 0 is very harsh but name me one attribute of Ryan McGivern that makes him a decent full-back. I can't think of any.
Cat Burger Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 Obviously a rating of 0 is very harsh but name me one attribute of Ryan McGivern that makes him a decent full-back. I can't think of any. Agreed. The zero I awarded wasn't meant to be taken seriously because I haven't given any of the other players ratings. Therefore I'm not involving myself with other people's standards. Just to note, I thought the rest of the team played alright last night, including Neilson and King who have suffered criticism. McGivern however is a waste of time, my biggest beef today is the fact that he was playing in the first place. WHY? It was clearly product of pressure from Man City and I don't think we need to adhere to that. If we think about how low we have been over the past few years, I don't think we have to put up with pleasing other people or humouring inept wasters anymore. The guy isn't going to make it in the game, he showed time and time again last night the he has no awareness, positional sense or attacking skill to make up for these shortcomings. We would have been better putting an Egg McMuffin at left back. Also, to further illuminate certain retards on my musings, I am Bruno's biggest fan and I'm pretty disgusted that he's been dropped for this clown. God knows how he feels about it, not to mention how it might be affecting the rest of the team. Things could already be at work that we don't know about concerning Bruno. Great win though.
Southern Fox Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 (TV) Weale - 8* MOM display - assured on every aspect of goalkeeping last night Neilson - 6 - One of his better displays in a Leicester shirt. But he was far from good McGivern - 5 - His positioning was poor and failed to get to grips with McAnuff and then Kebe gave him run around. Tough night for youngster Hobbs -7 - Good steady display. Occasionaly ducked out of headers but works well with Brown Brown -7 - Close to man of the match for another no nonsense display. Continually heard "Wayno's" on the tele as he headed another one out of the box Gallagher - 5 - Didnt really get into the game enough for me but had a good effort fly just over (replaced) Oakley - 6 - Competed well but gave the ball far too often. King - 5 - Very quiet and actually forgot he was playing to be honest. Lots of chasing but didnt dictate play or get on the ball enough Wellens - 6 - Best of a poor midfield display that was overrun for the majority of the game. Tackled hard and covered a lot of grass Fryatt - 5 - When Matty is good and when he is poor he is shocking. 2x one on ones fluffed and looked like his was missing the extra yard of pace he had in the early games (replaced) Waghorn - 6 - Took his goal well but really did nothing else (replaced) Howard - 6 - Made an impression coming on - holding up play at a time when any minutes away from our goal was a relief Campbell - 5 -Busy but failed to get to grips with the offside rule once again Berner - 5 - Too little time to comment

Ryan McGivern was truly dreadful last night. The amount of times he got skinned with ease was worrying. Wayne Routledge will have no problems tearing McGivern a new arsehole on Friday - I am truly worried that Pearson will stick with McGivern vs QPR. Still, I wouldn't write the lad completely off. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll come good eventually. But against a free-scoring quality side like QPR, we can't afford passengers and liabilities. Bruno Berner should start.

I feel like I watched a professional suicide last night.Maybe he's a lucky charm because by some miracle we haven't conceded when he's played. To be honest McGivern wasn't outstanding but I think that most full backs will struggle against Jobi McAnuff. When he's on form, he is one of the best wingers outside the Prem. Andy King reminded me of Where's Wally last night. He was very hard to find at times He is always quiet and hard to find in every game, but at least he tidies up midfield. He does it nicely.
Fjällräven Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 TV Weale - 8 Simply vital for us. Looks like a complete goalkeeper. The defenders must have such good confidence in him by now. MOM. Neilson - 6 Solid defending, but looks very limited with the ball. No quality contribution when attacking. Not excactly the "modern" wing back I'd like to see. McGivern - 5 Caught out of position too often, as expected from a full back that age. More worried about the lack of pace at this stage of his career. Looked good when defending one on one though, and you can't criticize his work ethic. Hobbs - 6 Looking more comfortable each time I see him play, but still isn't as commanding as he needs to be. Seems like him and Brown complements each other quite good. Brown - 7 Bonus for looking like a right nutter. Consistently on the alert, and gets the cleaning job done with bravour. No fuzz. Oakley - 5 Lack of creativity and accuracy sums up his effort this night. Does everything just averagely and definately needs get his game together. As a unit, our midfield didn't defend good enough at all. Wellens - 6 Defensively our best midfielder. Works good from box to box and keeps the opponent busy. King - 4 Being virtually invisible is considered good sometimes. Doing that vital job that hardly anyone sees. In this case however, not. Gallagher - 6 Still not fullfilling his potential, but is slowly getting there. Gets into good positions and is the man that can make things happen. Fryatt - 5 Looks out of form and a bit uninspired, and his misses alone with the keeper could be fatal for us that night. Lacking confidence? Waghorne - 6 Works good for his wages on most occasions, and looked very determined when scoring. Howard - 6 Does what is expected of him, and seems more inspired than his rival attackers. Would like to see him start at QPR. Campbell - 5 Definately rusty, and looks a bit limited. Is he slower than I remember? No need to comment on his ability to stay onside. Berner - NA Need him back against QPR imo. Just so much more experienced and safe than McGivern.
Ash Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 TV Weale - 8 - Good solid performance, Great save 1st half! Neilson - 6 - Dont rate him, Seems nervy... Was he marking the corner flag in the first half? Hobbs - 7 - Dominate in the air, Like this fella. Brown - 7 - Also won alot of his heading, done the job well McGivern - 5 - No pace, rubbish postioning! Loves a hoof! Oakely - 5 - Went missing for alot of the game, and kept driftinh from his position Wellens - 7 - Always reliable, gets stuck in and wins alot of his tackles King - 5 - Was he even playing? Gallagher - 6 - Considering he is a striker and hasnt had the chance there yet, i think hes been playing well and doing a good job in midfield... Could always get you a goal from out of the blue Fryatt - 5 - Poor, Didnt keep hold of the ball well, couldnt finish! Needs 5 chances before he scores! Waghorn - 7 - Battled well, and kept the ball well... Great finish (MOM - One bit of class won us the game) SUBS - Howard - 7 - Did well win he came on, held the ball up well! DJ Campbell - 6 - Could be a threat when fully fit, Loves a offside!
Head Honcho Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 TV: Weale 8 Neilson 7 Hobbs 7 Brown 7 McGivern 6 Oakley 7 King 6 Wellens 7 Gallagher 7 Fryatt 7 Waghorn 7 subs: Howard 7 Campbell 6
Father Ted Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 TV: Weale - 8 Nielson - 6 He's rubbish but he was solid yesterday. Brown 7 Hobbs 6.5 McGivern 0 Oakley 4 King 7.5 - Quality. Wellens 6.5 Gallagher 6 Waghorn 8 - Held the ball up, had pace and was an absolute nuisance - just what we need. Fryatt 5.5 - Poor Howard 7 Campbell 6.5
Thracian Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 McGivern didn't have the best of games, there's no disguising it. But neither did Berner when he first arrived in the team and took a considerable time to establish himself.
Finnegan Posted 27 October 2009 Posted 27 October 2009 Because Waghorn hardly had a kick - and that included his goal! Yes, the goal was vital and I'd forgive him everything else in the circumstances, but he didn't look much of a threat generally whereas DJ put considerable pressure on the home defenders. Yet DJ, as against Palace, delivered literally no end product. At all. No good openings, no goals, no shots, he doesn't even find his own team with passes. I really have no personal issue with the guy, I'm glad we're giving him chances and I'd never get on his back and boo him or do anything that ridiculous. I'm happy to be patient and see if confidence improves his game with increasing opportunities I just don't think he's capable of really delivering anything other than running quickly. He's literally had less impact at this football club than Elvis Hammond and that's saying something.
Thracian Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I agree. Ryan McGivern was truly dreadful last night. The amount of times he got skinned with ease was worrying. He might not be hopeless but we couldn't risk him against anyone any good! Sounds close enough to a write-off to me.
iancognito Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 TV Weale - 8* - Caught everything, stopped everything, commanded his area. Ben Foster take note. Neilson - 6 - Did nothing wrong but he still worries me. McGivern - 5 - Not as bad as a lot have made out but is well short at this level right now. Hobbs - 7 - Solid, like he has been all season pretty much Brown - 6 - Heading, tackling, tough stuff is good, but don't fck about with the ball. Wellens - 7 - Another good showing from the engineroom. Oakley - 5 - Not his night but he's being fitted around the team right now. King - 5 - Steady, got it, gave it but he'll need to improve on that to stay in. Gallagher - 6 - Play him off the strikers and he'll be fine. We can't keep square-pegging him out wide. Fryatt - 4 - Did nothing but convince me he should - top scorer or not - be dropped. Lacking form & confidence as that chance before the break showed. Waghorn - 6 - Great header but didn't get enough of the ball, you could see their centre halves brick it when he had a bit of space. Give him a run next to Big Steve. SUBS Howard - 6 - Stick with it Stevie, you'll get your goal, if Nige lets you back in. DJ - 5 - I'm still not convinced his head is with us, should be firing on all cylinders to prove a point but isn't.
lildave3 Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I think McGivern definitely has potential. The worst part of his game seems to be positioning, but with a guy like Chris Powell there guiding you, surely he'll improve on that while he is with us.
dandannieldanok Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 McGivern didn't have the best of games, there's no disguisidng it. But neither did Berner when he first arrived in the team and took a considerable time to establish himself. Yes but we can't afford to be putting people in the team who aren't good enough at the moment when we've got someone perfectly good enough sitting on the bench. He might get better with games but I don't want us to find out, he's Man City's 'prospect', they're the ones who should be trying him out if they're desperate to.
CKB Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 TV Weale 8 - My MOM! we seem to have got a top class keeper here and that's down to NP and his scouting staff! Neilson 6 - Better than the last time i saw him but still doesn't fill me with confidence when i see him on the ball Hobbs 7 - Pretty solid Brown 6 - Was decent in the air but had a mare at one point in the game which i have completely forgot but could have lead to a goal McGivern 6 - I didn't think he was bad and blocked a shot which would have resulted in a goal! well deflected it then but still got that luck! Oakley 5 - Once again not impressed, i'd drop him i really would! King N/A - Sorry but apart from near the end i didn't see him once Wellens 6.5 - Solid game nothing fancy Gallagher 7 - Got around won headers and i thought he had a decent game, he would be so more affective UP FRONT tho! Fryatt 6 - Frustrating again! 2 VERY good chances and yes the keeper stood up well but surely a top class striker ( ) will have the noggin to put them away with ease! Waghorn 6 - 6 for the goal, didn't do much else! Subs: Howard 7 - Did well imo and could have bagged himself a goal which clearly he needs and you could tell when he missed! i thought he was gonna collapse into a heap on the ground and cry! Campbell 5.5 - Ran around but no service
Thracian Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 Yet DJ, as against Palace, delivered literally no end product. At all. No good openings, no goals, no shots, he doesn't even find his own team with passes. He had a fraction of the time Waghorn had yet disturbed their defence far more apart from the goal. Even now he's played barely half a game for us this season. Neilson, Berner, Brown, Gallagher all looked pretty ordinary for their first few matches.
