Weale 8 - Some terrific catches and one excellent first half save

Neilson 6 - Have no confidence in the bloke

Hobbs 7.5 - Solid

Brown 8 - Excellent, won loads in the air

McGivern 4 - Looks and plays like John and Edward's long lost brother

Oakley 7 - Generally kept the ball well but was overrun in the first half.

King 8 - His best game this season I felt. Covered well, won a lot of tackles and made some really excellent interceptions in the second half. MOTM.

Wellens 6.5 - Needless fouling but helped us gain a foothold in the second period.

Gallagher 6 - Barely made an impact on the game

Fryatt 6.5 - Should be taking the two chances he had but was generally lively and a handful for the Reading defence

Waghorn 7- For the goal. Generally less threatening than Fryatt.

subs:

Howard 7 - Held the ball up really well

Campbell 5.5 - Didn't do much

TV: I tend to work my ratings down from 10

Weale: 9 (I love this man!!)

Neilson: 6 (Best of a bad bunch of performances)

Hobbs: 7 (Faultless as always)

Brown: 8 (Several very good blocks, clearances and deflections and even some okay distribution!!)

McGivern 5 (Fair enough for giving the lad a chance but no more please, out of position time and time again.. also is he an albino :P)

Oakley 6 (Bit worried about his fitness levels, he looked like a deadman walking post match... in need of a rest, captain or not. His passing was shocking)

Wellens 7 (Okay... Not much else to say, a few nice through balls)

Kinggyy N/A (Im not joking... I didnt see him until that shot at the end... sorry)

Gallagher 8 (He's a worker thats for sure... was impressed with his passing and aerial ability)

Fryatt 6 (Time for a rest matty)

Waghorn 8 (Looked a constant menace when we had the ball until he was taken off)

Howard 6

Campbell 5 (Hopefully we have played him enough now for him to go away and do whatever it is he does, maybe get another dodgy tattoo).

Weale 8 Faultless

Neilson 7 Solid defensively, tough player

Hobbs 7 Coped well

Brown 7.5 Rock

McGivern 5 Prefer Berner at the mo, Clearly a talent but positionally v suspect. Had a tough job against McAnff and Kebe though

Oakley 6 NP wants to pick him, but has to fit him in wide right. Still not a wide right to me. Good delivery for the goal

King 7 Almost unnoticed he picks up the pieces

Wellens 8 Very good game I felt

Gallagher 6 We also know this is not his best position. Great effort from outside the box about all tonight

Fryatt 6 Should have taken one of the 1 on 1s

Waghorn 7 Excellent goal, quiet aside from that

Howard 7 Impact sub looks his role now

Campbell 7 a threat

Weale 8 - Some terrific catches and one excellent first half save

Neilson 6 - Adequate defensive performance, gave ball away loads though.

Hobbs 8 - Solid

Brown 8 - Same

McGivern 5 Poor position sense, average defending.

Oakley 6.5. Decent performance. Nice bit of effort.

King 5.5 Went missing for lot of the match. Hassled a fair bit though.

Wellens 7 - Some nice passing and got stuck in.

Gallagher 8 Looked good on the ball and played well.

Fryatt 6.5 - Should be taking the two chances he had but generally ok.

Waghorn 7.5- For the goal. Held it up well on a few occasions.

subs:

Howard 7 - Held the ball up really well

Campbell 5.5 - OFFSIDE!

TV:

Weale 8 - Great performance again from the former Brizzle City reserve. Excellent save first half and solid throughout

Neilson 6 - No complaints defensively but needs to be more composed with his passing. His hoofing often lumped the pressure straight back on.

McGivern 4 - Positionally dreadful and skinned time and time again by McAnuff and then Kebe. Recovered well on some occasions but was too much of a liability. Bring back Bruno.

Hobbs 5.5 - Thought it was one of his poorer games. He was beaten too easily on too many occasions and not dominant enough in a defence that was split open too easily.

Brown 7 - The best of what was a poor defence. He bailed us out with countless clearances but was jointly the culprit with many of Reading's quality through balls which their strikers should have made more of.

Oakley 5.5 - Passing too sloppy. Needs to be removed from the right sided role asap.

Gallagher 6.5 - Lively first half with some good touches and always part of any good moves, completely anonymous second half.

Wellens 6.5 - Calmed things down but not often enough. Tackling was poor resulting in a lot of pressure from free kicks.

King 6 - Some good, some bad but needs to be stand up and be counted more.

Fryatt 6 - Did cause Reading problems but should have taken those chances.

Waghorn 7 - Good header for the goal. Generally held the ball up well and created space for Fryatt.

Subs:

Howard 6 - Was willing that shot in at the end. Stupidly took on a shot a minute or two earlier when it was crying out for us just to keep possession.

Campbell 6 - Tried making the runs but the service just wasn't there.

How we won that I'll never know. The defence was all over the place and I think we should all put Simon Church and co. on our Xmas card lists for that result. Still, great three points but we'll need to pick it up at QPR.

Weale 8 - Awesome gets all balls in the air and made an absolute cracking save in the 1st half. MOM for me.

Neilson 6.5 - Average not bad. Dont like him going forward but defending is ok.

Hobbs 7.5 - Solid, for most part won all headers.

Brown 7.5 - Really leads the line well.

McGivern 5 - Didnt look great and was never tight enough. Inexperience showed today.

Oakley 6 - Not a great game. Passing was poor but did get stuck in.

King 6.6 - Didnt do to much that i saw but then that is never bad. Average.

Wellens 7.5 - Best game this month for me. ackled hard and set up some chances.

Gallagher 6 - Worked har but again looked out of position.

Fryatt 5 - Needs 3 chances to score simple. One on ones are dreadful

Waghorn 7- Worked hard, good goal. Dont know why he came off.

subs:

Howard 7 - Unlucky not to score he really deserves it!

Campbell 5 - Ran around

Weale 8- Nice saves. STAR man.

Neilson 7- Got caught a little, but made some fantastic tackles, and always gets forward well, and without a right winger on the pitch we need Robbie going forward.

Brown 6- Sloppy at times.

Hobbs 6- See Brown.

McGivern 5- Got caught repeatedly from their right winger, and is just shit compared to Berner.

Oakley 6- He doesn't play on the right wing, and didn't play well again today.

Wellens 6- Not that good.

King 5- Didn't notice him playing other than a shot in 2nd half that went over.

Gallagher 7.5- Did well again for me, easily the best of a poor defence and midfield.

Fryatt 5- Created chances for himself and was unlucky, but missing 2 one on ones is just poor, and he always misses them.

Waghorn 7.5- Holds the ball up well, and got the goal that won us the game.

Subs:

Campbell 6.5- Positive impact, slightly unlucky not to grab a goal.

Berner- NOT ON LONG ENOUGH

Howard 6.5- He did make a few decent passes, but still shouldn't be starting next game though.

Pearson 8- Smash and grab victory, and sending on Dj and Howard when leading away from home is a real act of courage.

From TV:

Weale 8 (Another thoroughly competent display with a couple of excellent saves thrown in).

Neilson 6.5 (As good as he's played for us but still not outstanding particularly when it came to wasting possession).

Hobbs 7 (Improved to finally close the door on Reding).

Brown 7.5 (Poor start but several vital blocks too).

McGivern 6 (Exposed as a weak link tonight. Beaten and left for dead far too often, Reding might easily have scored from some of the ammunition supplied off their right).

Oakley 6 (Mixed performance. Put one good chance wide but made the vital goal for Waghorn)

King 6 (Fairly close to a goal with a rasping late effort which was arguably our best effort all game apart from Waghorn's. His second half positioning was excellent and he did much to blunt Reading's progress. Less so in the first half when the whole side struggled to find any cohesion).

Wellens 6.5 (So nearly made a goal for Howard at the end and always looked for the positive pass even if they didn't all come off by any means).

Gallagher 6.25 (Much more subdued than against Palace although he was one of the few who kept possession reasonably well in attacking positions).

Fryatt 6 (Disappointing. Missed two relatively simple one-on-one's against the goalkeeper by failing to chip the ball competently but he did win those chances. Not great otherwise although he did keep at it).

Waghorn 6 (Quiet generally. But his goal was only a half-chance and how we've needed someone to attack the near post. His glancing header across into the far left-hand corner was inch-perfect and an example to Reading of what's necessary to win games).

Subs:

DJ 6.5 (Caused considerable nervousness among Reading's defence as their team needed to press forward. Demonstrated too how quick officials are to give him offside - when they're wrong).

Howard 6.5 (His presence was just what we needed at the time he was introduced and I felt DJ could well feed off him given time. Should have scored though at the end).

Berner n/a

Pearson 7.5 (City were always going to be cautious and might well have paid for it in the first half-hour but once we'd taken the lead the manager ensured that we closed the doors on Reading efficiently to record our second successive away win. We improved considerably after his half-time talk and his substitutions were well-timed and did just what was planned in keeping the home defenders occupied despite our having fewer men forward. I still thought though that our lack of pace and a proper winger left us so limited going forward but we're in the results business and it is hard to knock an away win of any kind.).

TV:

Weale 9 - Solid as a cliff. Made some vital saves, heroic.

Neilson 7 - Pretty solid but distribution isn't quite there for me.

Hobbs 8 - Solid in the tackler and a real maturity. Decent.

Brown 8 - Leicester's Chuck Norris, only harder. Love the bloke.

McGivern 5- Young lad with a lot to learn. Berner the better option.

Oakley 7 - Set up the goal and looked good with a nice range of passing.

King 6 - A nuisance but distribution not great. Has had better nights.

Wellens 8 - Impressive, solid and Reading hated his strength.

Gallagher 8 - Pace, skill and passing. Getting better all the time and goals against Palace have boosted his confidence.

Fryatt 7 - Ran and ran all night, unfortunate not to score and will be on the scoresheet again before too long.

Waghorn 7 - Quiet apart from the goal but still looks threatening. Pace is an asset.

subs:

Howard 7 - Reading struggled against his aerial threat, very unlucky not to score at the death.

Campbell 6 - Hungrier than Rik Waller lost on a safari. Hustle and bustle but constantly offside.

TV

Weale 8 - Calm, assured, unfussy as per usual

Neilson 7 - Thought he was generally solid again. Not much came down his side and I thought he was excellent second half.

Hobbs 7 - Not as good as recent games but still an imposing presence at the back

Brown 7 - Typical Wayne, dodgy in possession but blocks, clears and heads anything that comes his way

McGivern 5 - Skinned on numerous occasions and caught out of position ust as much. Having said that, he did have some good moments breaking up attacks

Oakley 6 - Slightly better, but still prone to misplaced passes and drifting infield too much.

Wellens 6.5 - Same as Palace, poor first half but improved considerably second once he found passing range

King 5.5 - Extremely quiet and generally unable to get a grip of the midfield.

Gallagher 6.5 - Decent when he was involved. Looks one of the few players in the side who can create something with some intelligent distribution

Fryatt 5.5 - 2 one on ones missed. Worked the channels well but should be finishing one of those chances

Waghorn 6.5 - Poor first half save for the goal. Promising start to the second before surprisingly hauled off, was holding it up nicely and causing problems.

Weale - 8 - Great performance. Safe as houses.

Neilson - 7.5 - Solid as a rock. Good performance from him and played some decent balls, particularly the last one stood out that he played which led to Howard missing a sitter.

Hobbs - 7 - Solid enough.

Brown - 8 - Man beast.

McGivern - 5.5 - Dodgy. Bring back Bruno.

Oakley - 6 - Fairly non-descript down the right. Didn't do a lot.

King - 7 - Composed in the midfield. Never noticed him. This is good.

Wellens - 6.5 - Fairly busy but didn't really ever find that killer pass.

Gallagher - 7.5 - A real handful. Great touches on the ball. Clever player.

Fryatt - 5 - Once again proved that he can't finish with any finesse. If it ain't simple, forget it.

Waghorn - 6.5 - Looked dangerous but suffered a little from poor service. Great headed goal though.

Subs:

DJ - 6.5 - Looked pacey but never really had a lot to work with. Unlucky with his volley from close range.

Howard - 7 - Caused trouble and found himself to be a menace if nothing else.

Berner - N/a

NP - 7 - Clearly focussed on the game at hand taking attention away from the Davids situation and dealing with the game in exactly the right way. Job done. Roll on tomorrow and sign him up NP!!!

Solid performance in which we never looked like bothering to play in anything other than 1st gear. We still won easily. We'll raise the game for Friday and be 2nd come Saturday!

Weale 7.5 - Solid as a rock in goal. Pretty much faultless with a couple of stunning saves

Neilson 6 - Decent game. Unfortunately gave the ball away in good attacking positions but stuck to his task well

Hobbs 6.5 - Did OK but sometimes did not close down the ball quickly enough

Brown 8 - Man of the Match. A very good performance which could have been even better were it not for his average distribution

McGivern 5 - Good first half, poor second half. Got caught out time and again and against better wingers could have cost us dearly. Worrying lack of pace as well for a young full-back

Oakley 5.5 - Struggled and gave the ball away far too often

King 4 - Anonymous and lightweight at this level. Reading dominated the central midfield as a result

Wellens 6 - Got stuck in and played some neat passes.

Gallagher 6.5 - Looked the most threatening of the midfield and held the ball up well.

Waghorn 7 - Scored the winning goal and worked hard

Fryatt 6 - Showed good quality on the ball but missed two good chances

Howard 6.5 - Won some good flick-ons and was unlucky not to open his account for the season

Campbell 5.5 - Caused Reading some issues with his pace but did not have a major impact on the game

Weale 10 - Without him we would have losted

Neilson 7 - I dont dislike him but think there is better right-backs however this was one of his best games and that jump over their player need the end of the game was amusing.

Hobbs 7 - Done well however one chance nearly led to a goal from the two central-defenders being so wide apart.

Brown 7 - Done well however one chance nearly led to a goal from the two central-defenders being so wide apart.

McGivern 4 - Dont like BLECH-BOY!

Oakley 6 - Careless and sloppy with the ball until the secound half.

King 5 - Was he even in the game? Never heard his name till a shot in the 80th minute.

Wellens 6.5 - Wasn't brilliant but wasnt bad. loved his skill first half.

Gallagher 7 - Thought he was the only winger who ran at their players and created some chances.

Fryatt 6.5 - Cant blame him for missing the two chances, the goalie closed the angle very well.

Waghorn 7- For the goal. Generally less threatening than Fryatt.

subs:

Howard 7 - Held the ball up really well

Campbell 6 - Caused a tiny problem, injected some pace in the side.

This was like a training ground match,, building up the fitness for the QPR game. The good thing was that we got a result.. LETS RUN!!! :crylaugh:

I thought Reading's midfield just ran into a brick wall second half and looked increasingly frustrated. And some of the elementary mistakes as time went on reflected this.

Posted

King 4 - Anonymous and lightweight at this level. Reading dominated the central midfield as a result

I respect the view, but disagree with it very fundamentally. Thought Reading's threat came all down their right flank, and King did a decent job breaking up stuff through the middle. The weak link for me was Oakley (fitness issues I thought last 20) not King

Watched on the TV - was distracted by the constant complaints that a certain someone was missing eastenders. (BBC Three mother!)

Weale 8 - Clean tidy performance - good saves, both when it counted and it didn't

Neilson 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Hobbs 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Brown 7.5 - decent performance, mildly exciting

McGivern 4 - Why he decided that a starting position of four yards in front of the back three, (with winger + pace to burn stood behind ready to run onto the ball) was where he needed to be I don't know. Amateur defending - and shit throws too.

Oakley 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

King 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Wellens 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Note - from the TV high shot, it't not very easy to tell these three apart!

Gallagher 7.5 - slight more than decent performance, a few exciting touches. Nice to see he backs both of his feet.

Fryatt 7 - got into the right places, just didn't get the ball into the right places. (Matty if you're reading - I suggest toe punt next time!)

Waghorn 7.5 - decent performance, just not very exciting, except for the goal. He has no neck?

subs:

Howard 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Campbell 6 - standing up and staying on-side are not his strong points are they

Berner 7 - decent performance, just not very exciting

Post match interviewer; 9 - Leicester Shity Shirt indeed! He, he

Posted

I watched the game via online stream.

Weale 7 - Very solid, gave the Reading strikers a hard time, but no outstanding saves (though a few astonishing reflexes) MOTM

Neilson 6 - Hit and miss; mostly a hit today

Hobbs 7 - Solid, best defender on the pitch

Brown 6 - One second really aggressive and commanding, tackles well, then he does a 180 and has no idea what's going on around him whatsoever; however, good defending against high balls

McGivern 4 - Found out by McAnuff and Kebe; slow, out of position, clueless - yet I still have faith he can do better than that

Oakley 6 - Apart from the corner that led to Waghorn's goal, not that captain-worthy; made a couple of really bad passes (especially in the first half) and added no drive forward, got better towards the end

King 7 - Completely off the radar in the first (it felt like 10 vs. 11), then gave a good defensive display in the second half, had a good shot at goal

Wellens 7 - Solid as ever, the midfield backspine

Gallagher 6 - Good drive forward in the first half, lacked impact in the second

Fryatt 6 - Oh, those misses... didn't look entirely fit, though

Waghorn 7 - a goal, that's about it

subs:

Howard 6 - Hmm... didn't really do an awful lot, obviously not used to play as a sub lol

Campbell 5 - Runs into offside more often than you can say "DJ Campbell is offside again" in thirty seconds

Berner N/A - came on too late, but gave the left side definitely more stability

Posted

Weale 8 - Giving him more would be getting carried away but did he make an error tonight? I didn't see it if so.

Neilson 7 - Looked alright to me tbh, solid, determined, fit, involved.

McGivern 5 - Back on the bench please, wasn't good tonight but not to be written off IMO. Just don't see how he can keep Berner out the side.

Hobbs 7 - Solid

Brown 7.5 - Solider

Oakley 6 - Don't think he was on it tonight, use of possession not perfect, wasn't in control

Gallagher 6.5 - Looks a good player to me, not a winger though, deserves to be given a more central role

King 6 - Anonymous to me but I'm gonna say that that is because I wasn't watching him properly, am willing to go along with people saying he was breaking things up well in the middle. I tend to never see him, but that's not necessarily bad in his role.

Wellens 6 - Always a positive influence but I don't think we won the midfield battle on merit

Fryatt 6 - Tired? Good positioning and running, bad finishing

Waghorn 6.5 - Didn't do loads and loads but what a great header

Subs

DJ 6 - Causes the defence problems, useful late on when in the lead, but so blatantly limited as a footballer

Howard 6 - Again, causes the defence trouble late on, the combination is hard to deal with whilst going gungho for a winner

Berner 6 - Always just seems to me to be a good footballer in general, impressive but only on the pitch for a few minutes
