bristolcity103 Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 Hi all. Bristol City fan here as you can see. Wanted to ask about Chris Weale. He seems to be your #1 and I was just wondering how he is getting on with your lot. Many of us BCFC fans rated him and felt he never got a real chance. Having said that, he was injured for most of his stay and we never saw much of him. Now that his injurys (seemingly) are behind him, how is he at this level?
StanSP Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 Awesome so far. One of our best players and is good to have confidence at that end of the pitch. Something we've sort of lacked in recent seasons.
Koke Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 Superb reliable keeper. Thanks for letting him go.
Budweiser Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 Quality signing by Nige and co Best keeper since Walker, which was a considerable amount of time ago
samlcfc Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 class act so far. Seen him make a lot of saves that I expected to be goals. Very happy with that fact.
Head Honcho Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 I personally can't see what all the fuss is about
Guest Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 I really wish people would use the search function.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 November 2009 Posted 6 November 2009 If he's not in England's 2010 World Cup squad there's something very wrong with Mr. Capello.
Fox92 Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Told you all that's why I still don't have confidence in him - take a look at the goals he conceded yesterday. Ok, he has made some good saves in some of the games but he still moves his hand away at times and I never feel secure when people strike it from long distances against him. He should have saved both goals yesterday. The free kick could have took a little deflection but he still should have saved it, the ball went into the net as slow as I have ever seen. In fact, it was passed into the net. He was too late diving, again. And the second one, well I sit behind the goal, and the ball did move in the air, but he could have also saved that one. It wasn't a thunderbolt, it was comfortable for a goalkeeper of any calibre really. He could see it from a distance, as nobody closed the player down, but he still should have saved it. So, before people critisize Gallagher's miss, in which yes he should have scored, they want to take a closer look at the goalkeeper because that's another reason why I still don't trust him.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 Harsh - just watched the goals First came through a crowd on the ground - couldn't get behind the shot until the last in case someone poked it the other way. Second - seemed to move a fair bit, purhapse should have done better, but then purchapse someone should have closed down? Just cast your mind back a couple of games - Reading and QPR - Weale was a key player in those performances. Continue not to have confidence in him if you like, but I imagine you won't have too many occasions to voice your concerns this season.

He could've done better with the second goal, but the first wasn't his fault. And he made a couple of good saves in the second half. His first real mistake for us, three months in, not too bad in all honesty.

I dunno because the first one creeped in and although I am not obviousley Weale himself, I think he moves his hand away and dives too late for my liking. Not sure about him yet, he isn't the best goalkeeper we have had in years, he's ok.

Father Ted Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 lolGo on then captain, who's the best keeper we've had in years? Tony Warner obviously.

The first one went through players, it could easily have been blocked. Weale could possibly have been unsighted too, I don't think it was his fault. The second was a combination. The only keeper I think who's possibly been better since Walker was Fulop. Weale, on the whole, is a good keeper who rarely lets us down.
davieG Posted 8 November 2009 Posted 8 November 2009 I prefer Weale to Walker who I never really rated as he was far too slow coming off his line, I used to call him mogadon man as he was so slow I thought he'd fallen asleep. Flowers was the last 'great' goalkeeper we had that was ours.

You really are talking bollocks when it comes to Weale, hes far and away the best keeper weve had since Walker. Fact If Im wrong please tell me a better keeper weve had since IW? Im not talking about loanees either but even Fulop had his faults and Im not convinced he was any better than Weale.
Fox92 Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 Go on then captain, who's the best keeper we've had in years? We all have our opinions don't we, and I don't like Weale. Just an opionion, no need for the 'captain'. And, I'll tell you why I am still unsure: . He seems to withdraw his hand all the time. . He seems top dive to late at times. . Occasionally, he has come off of his line to slow. Don't like him, thats all. It's ok when he claims crosses and jumps for the ball, I feel fine.

lou Posted 9 November 2009 Posted 9 November 2009 If I can't include loanees then whats the point. go on then include loanees and say Fulop.... He was decent (still no better than Weale) but he wasnt our player. Basically your bias against Weale has no substance whatsoever. Who would you prefer we play, Conrad Logan?

I am not saying I would play him, so don't quote me on this one, but he does look good in training, doesn't he? I thought that Stockdale, Martin, Fulop, Taylor all better goalkeepers than Weale - no offence.
