teblin Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Squad is looking in decent shape now, though maybe we could do with a little back up in the centre of midfield.
Guest Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 he is 6ft 2 and he's used to wearing blue, McGivern, MCGIVERN!! (is this not the new chants thread? Oh well )
Pete_foxes Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 I fooking love our current management team. How many times in the past have we as fans realised where we are lacking in players position-wise and how many times did we fail to strengthen!! Like when we were desperate for a left-back, yet signed a succession of terrible right-backs. Our team/squad has never been so well balanced! This time 8 or 9 days ago, we all agreed that we maybe need one or two strikers and a young left-back as cover for berner (and Powell). So what does Pearson do, sign 3 right-backs?? NO, he brings in two strikers and a left-back!! Brilliant! I know we haven't really seen them play yet but I trust Pearson's judgement and lets be honest this Mcgivern lad is probably better than Mattock. We have massive strength in depth now, better than most Championship clubs imo. We have two quality players for every position now, with maybe the exception of goalie but like we have said, if Weale does get injured, we could easily get Stockdale or Martin in again on an emergency loan so no problems there! What a great time to be a Leicester City fan!! I know comparisons with MON have already started. He's not there yet but he's well on his way! And a win on monday could send us top!! C'mon the foxes!! agree 100% with this it seems that for the first time in a long time the managment n fans are singing from the same song sheet.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Dyer, Gradel, N'gussean, Oakley, Waghorn, Gallagher and Adams not enough for you? Dyer, N'Guessan, Adams and Gradel are the only real wingers out of them lot. Oakley won't be as effective out on the right anymore, especially in the championship, Waghorn is a striker, so too is Gallagher, and I have my doubts about Gradel and I think Pearson does aswell, hope i'm wrong though. I did say I was being greedy I am happy with our squad just think that one more quality winger who is a good crosser of the ball would improve us immensly, plus Dyer and Gradel are inconsistent at times, apparently N'Guessan too. Just think it would really make us a threat, That's all
The Birch Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 He's here to replace Berner. Can't see the obsession with Berner myself. Decent player but a bit negative in possession for Pearson, methinks. I agree, Berner has been alright but I think more competition for that position will be a good thing.

Vlad The Impaler Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Historically the vast majority of wingers are inconsistent it seems to come with the job. Yeah, that's true actually I'd of loved to of seen Cleverely back here though, gives us a different dimension.
welshfox Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Looking at the Man City forum they seem to think alot of McGivern.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Inside info have we? I thought it was common knowledge to be honest. Even if it wasn't, you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to work it out. In fact, you don't have to be Eamonn Holmes.
Flynny Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 In fact, you don't have to be Eamonn Holmes. I'll be taking my grey wig and fat-suit back to the shop then.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 I'll be taking my grey wig and fat-suit back to the shop then. After a long and dull summer, I don't need the latter. Note to self: Eat when hungry rather than bored.
Flynny Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Deserves a bit of credit for yesterday I thought, especially first half.
Kilworthfox Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Deserves a bit of credit for yesterday I thought, especially first half. Best game so far, but still not a great signing all in all. Needs more performances like last night
Corky Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 He looked better at centre-back than left-back.
Fox92 Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 He looked better at centre-back than left-back. Yes he did. He was actually great at centre back yesterday.
Ozwin Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 I still can't believe he had the nerve to head the ball back to Weale under pressure like John Terry. Class stuff.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 I don't think his height helps him at full-back, obviously in the instances when a winger runs at him (Ivan Sproule). He's 6ft 2', and I can't think of any of the best full backs during the time I've watched football being taller than 6ft.
Jimothy Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 I don't think his height helps him at full-back, obviously in the instances when a winger runs at him (Ivan Sproule). He's 6ft 2', and I can't think of any of the best full backs during the time I've watched football being taller than 6ft. Hermann Hreiðarsson and Vedran Ćorluka are about the only ones I can think of that are very tall and had an even decent careers at full back.
bigneville Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 Deserves a bit of credit for yesterday I thought, especially first half. Agreed. I'm not a McGivern fan at all to be honest, but it did seem first half they where looking to get the ball out wide right to Ward as soon as possible to get one on one vs McGivern, and he didn't do too bad at all. However I agree with many other comments, he did look more comfortable at centre half, and I can see his attributes are more suited to that role longer term.
Koke Posted 27 December 2009 Posted 27 December 2009 I don't think his height helps him at full-back, obviously in the instances when a winger runs at him (Ivan Sproule). He's 6ft 2', and I can't think of any of the best full backs during the time I've watched football being taller than 6ft. Bruno Berner is 185cm [6'1] and Ryan McGivern is 188cm [6'2] - hardly much difference, and Bruno is a competent defender. But you're right though. McGivern quite tall for a full back. Vedran Corluka is 6'3 and he's the tallest full back I've ever seen.
davieG Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Sky Skysports.com understands Leicester are set to extend the loan stay of Ryan McGivern until the end of the season. McGivern, who joined Leicester from Manchester City in August, is due to return to Eastlands next month. However, Leicester have moved to try and keep the Northern Ireland international at the Walkers Stadium for the remainder of the campaign. Manchester City are understood to be willing to let McGivern to stay out on loan so that he can continue getting valuable first-team experience under his belt. McGivern has made seven appearances for Nigel Pearson's side so far this term and he will remain at the club as they look to maintain their push for promotion.
lou Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Well he is improving so maybe its not a bad thing... a few weeks ago Id have been gutted about this but hes done a lot better lately.
bigneville Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 It's essential we keep defensive bodies at the moment.
