davieG Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 We could well be desperate for him come Saturday the day after his current loan expires. A busy week for clubs extending loans if they want/can play them for the Cup game.
MPH Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 I can see us adding extra defensive cover anyway in Jan... on top of this...
StanSP Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 I'd like him to stay. Not only because we need defensive players right now, but I'd like to see him improve with every game and we can be responsible for that. Room for improvement of course, and I think here is the best place to do it.
lou Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Hes very young so theres always room for improvement and like its been mentioned we need all the cover we can get. Cant see any reason to send him back right now? MM isnt going to splashing out thats for sure
scinnell Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Seeing as we have a defensive issue i think this is a good move.
MPH Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Considering we need defensive cover, and that MM was willing to pay 40k a week for Davids... i would be extremely surprised if he isn't tying to make a cheeky bid for Sol Campbell... he's on a free which would be right up MM's street!! Can you imagine how Much Hobbs and Morrison could learn from him? McGivern too for that matter. and yes... i know im dreaming !
Jimmy Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 happy with this but I also see another centre half coming on a six-month loan as cover for Tunchev as well
Matt Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Bollocks, Just after I read that the Doncaster game has been called off - Any more bad news?
Cat Burger Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Absolutely shocked me yesterday with a decent performance, but we should still gamble on a different loanee instead.
Corky Posted 28 December 2009 Posted 28 December 2009 Needs to play like he did in the second half on Saturday on a regular basis now. We do need the cover, so this isn't a bad move.
The Doctor Posted 29 December 2009 Posted 29 December 2009 nooooooooooooooooo. He's absolute rubbish.
MC Prussian Posted 29 December 2009 Posted 29 December 2009 I can't think of many other left-backs who were world-class at age 19, so I'm not going to slate a young guy with room for improvement. Could turn out a decent piece of business, if you ask me.

Joe Mattock was world class at 19 and worth at least 10 squillion quid
Guest Posted 29 December 2009 Posted 29 December 2009 Pleased with this. Had a couple of shaky games but overall he's not been bad. Against Sheff U he definitely showed what he's capable of at both LB and CB.

Yesterdays man!

In the 1st half against Sheff U he was getting some personal coaching from NP on his positioning - it does seem strange that a young lad from a Premier Academy still needs to be coached like that. Pace of the game, quality of opposition, experience of opposition, style of own team I can understand but basics Having said that he does seem to have some qualities with his speed, heading, tenaciousness, and tackling when in the correct position so I'm happy to see him given further opportunities as no one from the reserves/academy springs to mind as another option.

Fair point. You could argue that Mattock needed coaching on his positioning too when he was a mainstay in the first team though Nige was doing the same with O'Neill in the second half too. Am I imagining things or did O'Neill play at RB before? Just trying to figure out if he'd been shoved on the left in that emergency situation

Tony Pine Posted 29 December 2009 Posted 29 December 2009 he's decent. i wish he wouldn't kick the ball in such a weird manner. really leaves him open to shanking it.
CosbehFox Posted 29 December 2009 Posted 29 December 2009 He does require an 'angle' to hit it long mucho agreed. Rather peculiar way reminds me a bit of Guppy.
Tomassi Posted 30 December 2009 Posted 30 December 2009 Good signing this, you can see the lad has quality and just needs the right mentor to get him improving quicker. So i dont see why there is a problem Pearson ''coaching'' him if its going to sort his positioning out amongst other things, after all this is one of the jobs of a manager! Some people need to realise he is only 19 and has barely any match experience at Premier League/Championship level. I think this could be a permanent signing in the summer and I for one would welcome that!

If that was in response to me I didn't say it was a problem just and observation and a surprise that he needs so much of it. I'm quite happy to see him stay, I actually thought he had a decent half as LB in the 1st half against Sheff U.
Candidcamera Posted 30 December 2009 Posted 30 December 2009 It sounds as if he is willing to learn if he was coaching him like that. I thought he would go back because Berner had been playing so well. Just goes to show how injuries can ruin a season if we don't have suitable backup.
