Sir Fynwy Posted 6 January 2010 Posted 6 January 2010 To be fair, Mcgivern didn't do too bad at centre back in the second half against Sheffield United. He shows all the signs of being a CB who has converted to FB (he started out at CB), we've had a few here in the past, they usually struggle against fast, tricky wingers. He'll get better.

McGivern was expected to return to Manchester City this month but he will now help Leicester in their bid to return to the Premier League. The defender played in Sunday's 1-1 home draw with Ipswich Town. McGivern made his full international debut against Scotland in August, 2008. Cue torrent of abuse towards McGivern & Pearson.
Babylon Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He's fine as cover, wouldn't fancy him playing in every game though. His distribution let him down yesterday, but then again so did everybody else's.

Yes his distribution was ropey but that shouldn't be prior concern at all, instead the fact that at full-back he can't seem to tackle or cut out crosses or muscle off a winger. I think two of the main reasons why this guy has made it as a pro are: 1) he's left-footed and there's a shortage in football 2) he's tall and decent in the air

I mean yesterday he really didn't play as bad as Neilson or Brown, yet JUST because he scored a very unlucky own goal, and we need someone to blame for a draw against a crap team, he's suddenly the worst player on our team. Give the young lad a break.

Kilworthfox Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He is poor, but not the worst offender in our defence which is extremely worrying. <_< After watching him with his good & bad performances, I believe his is not good enough for what we are trying to achieve long term. His passing is awful, having said that yesterday I only had confidence in Morrisson in defence with their passing. When McGivern has the ball he always looks for the long direct ball to Fryatt, which we usually loose possession as playing the percentages Fryatt will loose most aerial balls as he is not 6,2"+. One aspect that is not pleasing in such a successful season so far, is Nigel Pearson's apparent inability to realise his mistakes, in fact he persists with playing players who are consistently below par (or much worse), I believe he sticks by the players he has signed, even the terrible ones! Whilst others whom he has not signed but seem to me to have done nothing wrong (Adams) do not get a look in, which I can not fathom? We are 5th so I am happy as a pig in shit as I thought we would struggle so

ash6290 Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 mcgivern is shocking aganist ipswich he was awful he couldnt put a decent ball into the box most of his attempts being over hit and he seems to get beat very easily and to top it off he scores an own goal
