Who ever said we were a big club anyway?

OR that MM was one of the richer chairmen?

Anyway QPR has the 2nd richest bloke at their club and it hasnt made them a bigger or more successful club than us!

Who even cares who the biggest club is?

Norwich, Southampton, Leeds are all bigger than Wigan, Burnley and Fulham - but what Leagues are they in?! It makes no difference, especially in terms of bragging rights!

(Also Hull and Bolton)

Surely "big" is based on success, support and recognition.

Sadly if thats the case, we are not a big club. Outside of England, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who knows who LCFC are or any history, in fact (though it hurts me to say) over here, i think the Tigers have a higher profile than city. :(

We will be big (internationaly)when we...

Are in the premiership

Make (at least) the 1/4 finals of the FA cup regularly

Play in europe

Play/beat Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool etc regularly.

1984 has just hit the nail on the head there hasnt he.

1) Support

Being a big club is about more than how many people turn up to watch us. If you understand that Leicester is the 15th most populated city in the Uk AND is a one football club city (OK, there is TIGERS too) then it should be getting higher attendances than cities like Blackburn and Wigan shouldnt it

In fact you would actually see that the ratios of people from these towns GOING TO GAMES is the equivalent or higher of what we get.

2) Success

Secondly, Leicester has had no record of success in its history, in terms of winning the BIGGEST competitions. A club that qualifies for Europe relatively regularly (not just champions league, but teams like Everton, Villa in their history etc), reaches the latter stages of domestic competitions frequently, and can play the likes of Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Villa, Spurs etc on an equal playing field and be as likely to beat these teams as they are beat us would suggest our size in comparison to them.

3) Reputation

1984 is totally right when he says that outside of the UK, because of the lack of top level history, LCFC would be less well known than other clubs, and indeed other midlands clubs.

I want to also dispell this myth that a rich chairman= big club. We all know thats rubbish. A GOOD chairman working well with the manager and investing well is important.

I am as passionate as they come about Leicester, but had to put the blue tinted glasses to one side to answer this debate

Which is exactly the same point I was making :dunno:

You mention Blackburn rovers but I can remember them getting to the play off final in 1991 when we played them they had Dalglish managing them and money coming into the club but they were nowhere near selling there ticket allocation they have won the league since then and they still have shit support (there is no other word for it). I live near Nuneaton and if Nuneaton Boro got to wembley they would sell out more tickets than Blackburn.

We should look to get more of the indian community to go to the walkers its something the club should look at to increase the crowds.

I would say we are a medium sized club to be honest only Villa and Derby nuneaton and maybe Wolves bigger than us in the midlands.

Shit, are we not a big club?

If that's the case I'm going to find a big club to support.

:Hitting self in the face smiley:

I love Leicester, for richer for poorer, for better or worse in sickness and in health 'til death do us part.

Now how the **** do I consumate this without destroying my keyboard?

I've wasted my time supporting us then......off to Man U with all the other mindless fook wits to support a club i have no care about.

Oh by the way it's very easy figure out where not a big club ask some one in Melbourne if they know who Leicester City is they will draw a blank ask them if they know Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal etc they know straight away.

To be fair... ask anyone in Melbourne any question.... and there is a fair chance they will draw a blank ;):P

Imagine if everyone suddenly knew Leicester the way they know the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, etc.

Imagine we had this sort of glory hunters that never go to a real game (or maybe virtually).

Yup. I'm glad I'm supporting a club only a selected few have the pleasure to care about.

Why is this thread even open? It starts with a link to an article that's over a year old, and then spends two pages discussing whether we're a big club or not. We're not. We never have been.

We are a medium sized club we cannot be described as a big club but not small either.

Perhaps because this is an internet forum "an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest" and some people enjoyed and were interested in the discussion.

Sorry, perhaps i shouldnt only post on here when im wasted.... :sweating:

what i meant to link was:

http://fourfourtwo.com/lists/richlist200910thefull100.aspx

Thats the current rich list. I must have got it confused with the old link.

I wasnt trying to start a how big are we self-assessment either, rulers and penises should be kept apart. (yes im drunk again) I was trying to question everyones "this year or next year" expectation regarding the premiership.

We only have 1 invester who (clearly) isnt that rich, backing a team that isnt premier material IMO. As much as i do support Nige and the boys i dont want them torn apart by the spotlights and pressure of the league above without the finance behind them to plug the gaps and improve the team.

Milan has said that he is a "caretaker" not long term Chairman. Do we need a new invester first? Or should we hope for the prem as we are and risk debt and administration without a committed and powerful backer? I love this club of ours and i dont want to see it ruined by the prem because we arent capable as a team and club.

I'm honestly sorry for even starting this topic seeing as its gone down like Josef Fritzl at a family re-union, but it isnt like the forum is packed with interesting topics right now.

Out of interest, most taxi drivers in Thailand have heard of Leicester, and some can even reel of names like Heskey, Izzet, Lineker etc. I even saw a Leicester badge sticker on one cabbie's dashboard once (though to be fair he did have Barcelona, Celtic and Villa badges on his windows).

Not sure if that makes us a big club or not... I'm guessing not.
