Bryn Posted 20 February 2010 Posted 20 February 2010 I hate religious debates. The ones who vehemently defend their religion and its various unnecessary quirks and rules are usually ignorant, pig headed and whiney, who I'd rather not trust. They usually have very little substance to their arguments and invariable resort to "RESPECT MY BELIEFS COZ YOU HAVE TO". The ones who viciously set about those with faith are usually ignorant, pig headed and whiney, who I'd rather not trust. They usually have fook all point to make, have barely spent a minute in their life reflecting on anything intellectual, think they're awfully clever and generally just want to make a statement. Pathetic on both sides. There's nothing wrong with faith, or the absence of faith, just keep it to yourself and if you have to talk about it, try to be more of a Finnegan about it than a Mario Kempes.
Finnegan Posted 20 February 2010 Posted 20 February 2010 in all fairness to "Mario Kempes", pig headed and ignorant aren't words I'd use to describe him. Intentionally offensive and looking to get a rise out of someone is probably a bit more accurate.

Great post and in an ideal world i'd be 100% with you , Unfortunately we don't live in that world and religious zealots around the world will ignore your wise words and continue to try to dominate all our lives , make up divine rules for the masses , and so there will be a reaction to it by others , Sad , but there you go .we'll just have to live with it

Wycombe Fox Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 I can get proof of Jesus' sexual tendencies - David Icke lives round the corner - I'll go and ask him about his brother.
l444ry Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 Some signs that demonstrate a foolish atheist. You vigorously deny the existence of God, yet you frequently blame Him for all the "evils" in the world, all the natural disasters, and everything else under the sun that is wrong in modern society. You feel insulted and "dehumanised" when creationists say that people were created in the image and likeness of God, but you have no problem with the evolutionist claim that we all evolved from slime by a cosmic accident. You criticis Christians who believe the Bible, and say that it can't possibly be true because it's just a book written by mere men, yet you never question any of Darwin's writings or Richard Dawkins' books. You can't seem to understand the primary differences between fundamental Muslims and fundamental Christians (hint: strap-on TNT. Plus - Muhammad says, “kill innocent people and yourself if you love me.” Jesus Christ said, “I’ll die for you because I love you”). You say the Bible is full of fairytales and fables, yet you believe all life forms including plants, trees, insects, birds, fish, reptiles and mammals evolved from one species into another - As if macro-evolution isn’t the biggest fairytale of them all. You laugh at the Supernatural, even though scientists have calculated the odds of life forming by natural processes to be estimated less than 1 chance in 10 to the 40,000 power – But you find nothing wrong with believing that billions of years full of random mutations would result in the impossible. You accuse fundamental Christians of being intolerant, judgmental and hateful, while you foam at the mouth calling them fooking lunatics, ignorant, weak-minded, stupid and hateful bigots. You ignore scientific concepts like cause and effect, and you don't realise that a closed system can be defined however the observer wants, so you throw out technological phrases to try to ignore the implications of thermodynamics by saying the laws of physics are not set in stone.

Edmund Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 you do realise l444ry is not serious. He's most probably as atheist as they come.

You ignore scientific concepts like cause and effect, and you don't realise that a closed system can be defined however the observer wants, so you throw out technological phrases to try to ignore the implications of thermodynamics by saying the laws of physics are not set in stone. 10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours. 9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt. 8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God. 7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees! 6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky. 5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old. 4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving." 3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity. 2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God. 1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian shamelessly stolen from another site
l444ry Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 Yeah, those Atheists are always flying planes into buildings, oppressing women and homosexuals, murdering apostates and threatening their neighbours with "convert or die"... Thanks for aptly demonstrating my point. I respectfully refer you to point No. 4.
Vacamion Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 Thanks for aptly demonstrating my point. I respectfully refer you to point No. 4. Fundamentalist Christians can be just as dangerous as other fundamentalists. Several former Presidents of the USA have believed in "End Times" mythology and formulated their policies on Israel as a result.
Bryn Posted 21 February 2010 Posted 21 February 2010 I'd be worried if someone like you appreciated my humour. So would I, it would give you the misleading impression that I gave a shit whether you were joking or not.

Finnegan Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 Yeah, to be fair, there are some massive differences between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims.
Webbo Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 Yeah, to be fair, there are some massive differences between fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslims. Tbf I don't think too many people would class the KKK as fundamentalist Christians.
Daggers Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 Tbf I don't think too many people would class the KKK as fundamentalist Christians. Really? I'd reckon them and the Army of God would be on page 1 in the book of American Fundamentalist ****wits.
Webbo Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 The KKK didnt kill people because of religion they killed people because they were black( and usually christian as well), there is a difference.
Finnegan Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 The KKK didnt kill people because of religion they killed people because they were black( and usually christian as well), there is a difference. The KKK have been known to kill Jewish Americans.
Webbo Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 The KKK have been known to kill Jewish Americans. Yeah, that point occurred to me while writing my post, they have probably killed Hispanics as well, but (I think) that it's more of a racial thing. My main gripe was Large Al's comment about being discriminatory in saying there is a difference between fundamentalist Muslims and Christians as if because you've criticized 1 religion you had to criticize all religions just to be fair. I've never heard of any trouble with fundamentalist Buddhists or Zoroastrians.
Zingari Posted 22 February 2010 Posted 22 February 2010 All the major religions have been guilty of incredible violence and barbarism and I reckon the score is about even between the main 3 desert dogmas But at least they are not like those intolerably fookin smug condescending atheists
