I always get a buzz watching planes take off and landing.

Have an early flight to Munich out of T5 at Heathrow on Saturday morning so staying over at The Thistle. Other than taking the electric pod to and from the terminal. I’m hoping the weather is decent so I can sit on the terrace bar which overlooks the runway and have a bite to eat and a pint watching some take offs.

Flew the 787 max on holiday last week. Beautiful plane (now that the crew are properly trained on its quirks)

Couple of weeks ago was on an BA Airbus 300 on the upper deck..what a plane. Absolutely nothing better in the skies. Floats like a balloon

You won't mind if they turn the engines off then.

Woefully socially awkward but kinda compulsive viewing. He draws you in.

Anyways, Leicester fella it seems. So I like him a bit more now.

I have watched a few of his films, but I don’t like his ‘sneaky’ presentation style so I have ‘deleted’ him. There are much better presenters with more objective skills and also involve cabin/flight crew which make their films far more interesting.

Do you mean the 737 Max or the 787 dreamliner? Big difference :twitch:

Also, do you mean A380? The A300 was manufactured in the 1960s!!

Agree the A380 is a magnificent aircraft, not suitable for sustainable aviation going fwd.

As I've said before the A350 is just stunning, flew on a 2 month old one to Orlando on saturday and earlier on in the year, just incredible and judging by Airbus' orderbook these past 12 months every airliner wants them in their fleet.

Haha. Yup. It all didn't quite sound right as I typed it with a befuddled holiday brain.

737 Max. A380 - glad I did it before they die off. Upper deck in premium.

Flew BA A350 and as you say, perfect flying - if you pre book the mini economy cabin of about 8 rows you save a shit load in upgrades.

For any local to Leicester aviation enthusiasts, I strongly recommend you book a simulator experience with these

This was a bit of my hour with them in April. It was so good, I came out and booked another with them

I’ve a couple hours booked mid august. I’ve done a similar thing down at Gloucester airport, I think it was. Really enjoyed it!

Never flew on a 737 max…yet. I’ve done lower deck economy with emirates on the A380, it’s was good enough and I think emirates are the best out there for their economy product.

I managed to get in the front on the A350 in the club suite cabins which are class. I did premium with virgin, not a big fan of virgin as a product but their premium offering is better than most.

I know Ryanair have a massive max order book, Boeing in general are really suffering vs the Airbus products and the problems the max had, the A350 is simply better than the Dreamliner or 777 and with no new platforms on the horizon I expect there will be more of a significant shift towards Airbus across the decade.

Ive done Ryanair max and the cabin is instantly better, taller, roomier.

Dreamliner I'm.mixed on. Flew 14 hours on one last year and it never moved an inch. I know that is luck with weather. But not one bobble. I'm gonna guess pilots like it as it's still fly by cable. But the loo door was rattly all flight and economy I reckon a good inch less than the A350.

Funkiest plane this year has been Airbus A220. 2/3 configuration. Brand new. Cabin engineering perfection to maxing out size.

The 787’s are starting to look a bit aged, in fact I think some are already being turned in for scrap as the carbon composite they’re made of isn’t made to last decades like planes of the past. The environmental benefits of having a 787 in service for 10-20 years and then scrapping it is probably still good compared to something like an old 757 being in service. I read / heard somewhere that the Titan submersible was made in part from recycled Boeing carbon.

Anyway, flew on the A321 Neo a few months back and it was the most comfortable plane I’ve been on. Plenty of leg room, fairly quiet and as modern jets go, fairly economical I’m led to believe.

Flew on one before they were grounded, Jan 2019. I only realised it was a max as I spied the serial plate on the inside of the door on boarding. Was quite a nervous flyer at the time so I wish I hadn’t noticed the serial plate lol

If I hadn’t, I don’t think I’d have known, from memory the cabin was no different to a 738.

The B737 cabin on all variants from the early B737-200 to the latest Max is basically the original 1960’s Boeing 707 body shell

I used to watch a few but realised I really don’t like him. He’s gone too upmarket now too, him sitting in first class on a Qantas, I was better when he was hunting 737-200 mixed cargo/passenger Ops in Canada and the like. There are better chaps out there that don’t whinge so much and spend half the video repeating the same things.

But fair ****s to him for turning it into a full time job and being able to relocate to Houston with it. Beats the 9-5.

Don’t think he’s from Leicester tho? Used to live in Mansfield.

I applied for a job with Manchester Airport Group a few months ago. They’d just released a podcast talking about different areas of Manchester Airport. Talking to the Aviation Director (or whatever his title) about route development and he mentioned the two football clubs being good for conversation a draw for the city - he said something about Leicester also being part of that conversation and attracting football visitors.

Mind you he did say was from the East Midlands originally

I like the avgeek side of him. Just find it a shame that he sometimes ignores the city/country he's in. He landed in outer Mongolia once and didn't even have the curiosity for a day mooching about.

Plus, he's not socially confident enough to engage the crew, like Sam Chui does.

But even so, his ideas are pretty good; 80 hours around the world / world's unsafest airline / Arctic circle food runs

Yep, thought the same about Mansfield. He definitely lived in Mansfield with his Mrs (odd woman she is) and spoke with theat kinda north midlands burr....but it seems he grew up in Leicester.
