I like the avgeek side of him. Just find it a shame that he sometimes ignores the city/country he's in. He landed in outer Mongolia once and didn't even have the curiosity for a day mooching about.

Plus, he's not socially confident enough to engage the crew, like Sam Chui does.

But even so, his ideas are pretty good; 80 hours around the world / world's unsafest airline / Arctic circle food runs

Yep, thought the same about Mansfield. He definitely lived in Mansfield with his Mrs (odd woman she is) and spoke with theat kinda north midlands burr....but it seems he grew up in Leicester.

Did his PPL training at leicester IIRC but used to fly from Nottingham

Deffo was from Mansfield before he turned traitor

That simulator experience looks mint

I’m determined to build something similar in the garage, sort of a 10 year project. It’s actually not as crazy an idea as it sounds, promise :D

It’s unreal

Its motionless but every other element is true to life

I flew from EMA, which was instantly recognisable what with the control tower, to Gatwick

The current weather outside is uploaded to the simulator too. Luckily for me, the day I flew it was totally clear outside.

Really worth doing

I've hinted very heavily to Mrs Para that my birthday is forthcoming.

We live 15 mins away from the location.

I love flying, even the boring bits.

A few years ago I was gifted a trial flight from Baginton airport. I was allowed to actually do the take off and then fly almost independently for an hour then I landed the plane, obviously under instructor supervision, but it was a great experience. Flew over my house too.

I've flown a plane! Never forget it.

The 787’s are starting to look a bit aged, in fact I think some are already being turned in for scrap as the carbon composite they’re made of isn’t made to last decades like planes of the past. The environmental benefits of having a 787 in service for 10-20 years and then scrapping it is probably still good compared to something like an old 757 being in service. I read / heard somewhere that the Titan submersible was made in part from recycled Boeing carbon.

Anyway, flew on the A321 Neo a few months back and it was the most comfortable plane I’ve been on. Plenty of leg room, fairly quiet and as modern jets go, fairly economical I’m led to believe.

Reminds me of this old Futurama clip

Guest Mee-9

Big AV nerd here. Was at Duxford the other week for the summer airshow.

More of a military aircraft fan than a civil aviation one.

Wife finds it not amusing when she’ll be talking to me and i’ll be gawping up at the sky. A Hurricane went over last week whilst she gave me a hug, and it did not go down well when I broke the clutches to look up.

Used to live under the flight path near East Mids and regularly would get it spot on about which aircraft were coming from and the schedule. Used to enjoy spotting the DHL plane from Leipzig

(Yes I am on the spectrum, and my god don’t get me started on Tanks)

I’ve got 18 hours PPL in a Cessna 152, but ran out of money just as I was about ready to go solo

If I ever won a substantial amount of money I’d 100% retrain to be a pilot

  • 2 weeks later...

Just come up from Castle Donington and there’s an RAF plane on the runway going to Cyprus according to Flight Radar.

It was lined up on 9, then started moving forward then started turning around. Very strange. Never known RAF to visit EMA

edit, just realised it wasn’t on 9, it was taxiing to 27 😂

still haven’t seen an RAF plane here before though

Staying next to Lake Windermere and it seems a pretty lively air corridor judging by the noise.

The only things I've actually managed to clap my eyes on have been an F15 Eagle and a V22 Osprey tilt rotor aircraft that was flying low and very cool

Ospreys are great to see, used to love seeing them when we were in Cambridgeshire near Mildenhall

Maybe a refuelling stop on the way to RAF base in Cyprus?

RAF are fairly regular visitors to EMA, think they might use it to practice take offs and landings. Ryanair do something similar as they have a 737 doing circuits with loads of landings / take offs fairly frequently during the day. Typhoons, Voyagers, A400M have visited EMA over the years, there was a small RAF jet there last week doing take offs and landing.

Obviously I know about the Ryanair 737, but hadn’t realised the RAF frequent EMA

Has anyone been to the east midlands aeropark? Thinking of taking my son. Their is good viewing points of the runways I believe

Yeah it's great, not even that busy on nice sunny days.  Cafe is decent for a coffee and ice cream.  Whether it's just my provider, or EMA have a blocker, but my phone signal is always non-existant.  I always check flightradar for the inbound/outbound schedule before I arrive so I actually know what flights I'm seeing.

Great - thanks for that

There's also the viewing and picnic area at the other end of the runway, next to the entrance road to East Midlands Gateway. It has no facilities other than a few benches, and very very limited parking but you get a clear view of approaches from the east. It's a nice walk between the aeropark and the picnic area along the perimeter fence though (full length of the runway)
