James Vaughan

Fryatt isn't coming back in a hurry, Vaughan has a bit to prove on the fitness front - a month sounds excellent if we have an extension provision and first option to buy in the summer.

And whatever buffoon is saying he'll go for £5million ->

Everton fan here.

You've got yourselves a good loan deal there, if James stays fit (which he's not done a bad job of this year so far) he's a great asset to most teams. He's definitely got the ability to succeed in the Championship and the potential to one day be a frequent starter for us.

As to why we are 'so eager to get rid of him', we play a 4-5-1 system and with the likes of Yakubu and Louis Saha in our squad, it's easy to see why James doesn't get much game time.

I'll be watching out to see how he does for you and hopefully he fires you back into the Premiership.

Cheers  I'm going to echo what everyone has said, which is good signing if he can stay fit. Fingers crossed

We've definitely got the extension provision. Haven't heard anything about a first option though, sadly.

The stats do make for grim reading.

Vaughan has only started 13 games in 6 seasons.

yes, but don't forget six seasons ago he was a 15 year old playing for a top ten premiership team.

granted he has had his injuries, but i think this stat is a little bit loaded due to his age and his team.

If he stays fit and does well for us, could be a great signing, especially if we can land him permanently in the summer.

Bags of potential, be interesting to see if he plays with or instead of Waggy (or not at all!)

Tidy signing from NP.

Exactly the type of player you want on loan - similar to Waghorn, a lad with a point to prove.

The Derby lads I've spoken to seems very indifferent to Vaughan.

Didn't he get injured in his second game for them? Not really a lot of time to judge him on.

Don't really see what the fuss is about.

It's been said before, but he's injury prone, has an average goalscoring record and didn't pull up any trees at Derby.

Don't really see where he fits in. We play 4-3-3, already have 3 or 4 wingers and have at least 3 centre forwards. I don't see what he gives us that others don't.

Hoping to be proven wrong.

This is what I don't get about our fans sometimes. I'd say it's fairly unlikely that if Waghorn or Vaughan are half as good or had half as much potential as people say they do that they would sign for us.

And potential is of absolutely no importance whatsoever when you sign a player on loan. What you need from a loan signing is somebody who can come in and deliver instantly, not some kid who may one day turn out to be a half-decent player for somebody else.

Alot of people are saying he is similar to waghorn, which in my opinion is not true. i have seen a bit of vaughan and everytime he plays his attitude reminds me of tevez, he doesnt stop running, chasing lost causes ect.

the reason he isnt like waghorn is he is a much better finisher IMO. vaughan tends to get his head down and go direct for goal but waghorn sometimes seems hesitant at times, very very good signing i dont see him being a bit part player though as surely milan would of said he would be playing a big part whilst being here. look forward to seeing him in a city shirt definately got more confidence of satying in the playoffs now

Who would be your ideal forward line 4-3-3 / 4-4-2

Waghorn-Vaughan-Gallagher

Gallagher-Vaughan( with waghorn coming from the wing)

Considering we are playing 4-3-3 it would be a cardinal sin to drop Lloyd Dyer as he scares defenders shitless with his pace. I can't see Waghorn being dropped either, so Gallagher is the one that needs to be worried for his place.

The only way to turn 'potential' into real talent is through minutes on the pitch. Waghorn is himself a case in point, regarded highly by the Sunderland hierarchy but unable (yet) to break into the first team. If either Waggy or Vaughan ended up signing for us permanently, it wouldn't automatically mean its because they're not actually all that good and couldn't cut it in the top flight, but more that they have a chance with us to make it into the Premier League and actually be able to get a game.

There have been plenty of players in the past who, after being forced out of a 'big' club due to lack of opportunity, have gone on to forge very good careers for themselves.

That would be especially harsh right after he's won player of the month and scored his first hattrick here!

I reckon Dyer will be on bench and Vaughan will replace. Dyer as impact sub is preferable imo.

Is Vaughan Fit enough to start the game? It is a big game against Cardiff on Sat and i think it will be a big ask to ask Vaughan to start. Also i dont think its fair to be dropping Dyer, he was one of the best out of a bad bunch from the weekends game.

Same team for me with Vaughan on the bench, instead of Stevie H.

Dyer wasn't great against Wednesday tbf. Miscontrolled a couple of passes and just didn't seem with it to me. The whole team needs a kick up the arse after that shocker really, anyone and everyone could be dropped.

Who the fuck was with it against Wednesday?! Dyer looked more threatening than any of our midfield or attacking players at any given time, which although not difficult based on that performance, suggests he's more important to us than, say, Gallagher or Oakley.

Oh yeah, not just pointing out Dyers poor performance, just mentioning him since it came up in a previous post. Nobody was great and like I say, anyone could be dropped.
