davieG Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 City Swoop For VaughanPosted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010Leicester City have signed striker James Vaughan from Everton on a month long loan deal. City have the option to extend the deal to the end of the season.Vaughan, 21, has struggled with injuries since becoming the Premier League's youngest ever goal scorer netting on his debut against Crystal Palace in April 2005 aged just sixteen. The Birmingham born forward joined Derby County on loan earlier in the season but made only two appearances before returning to Everton with a torn cartliage. Vaughan marked his return from injury with two goals in as many games, scoring in the wins over Burnley and Carlisle.Vaughan has made appearances for both the England U-19 and England U-21 teams, and was a substitute in Everton's FA Cup final defeat against Chelsea in May 2009.City Chairman Milan Mandaric was instrumental in securing Vaughan's services and the Chairman says he has always pledged his support to manager Nigel Pearson."I said before that I would do everything for the manager because he knows what he is doing. I trust him, we think the same way and I have worked hard to accommodate him.I discussed with Nigel what we needed to make a difference. I have been in California working with Nigel and Bill Kenwright, the Everton chairman. It was important to get the player that Nigel wanted."City have adapted well since losing top scorer Matty Fryatt to a broken jaw against Doncaster in February and Mandaric says it was important to replace him."It was unfortunate to lose Matty Fryatt but James is a proper player. It wasn't simple. The player was wanted by other teams.I have a good relationship with the Everton Chairman and I said to him that my manager would like the player and your manager wants him to get additional experience so let's close the deal."Leicester currently sit fifth in the Championship and are looking to seal back to back promotions to the Premier League and the Foxes' Chairman believes the signing of Vaughan could help them achieve that goal."We said in mid-season that if we needed to make a move we would deliver it. We said we would do the right thing at the right time. We feel this is the right time.I am paying for this out of my own money but this is not the time to talk about the money spent but the opportunities this may bring and to see where the club can go and to try and push on as far as we can go."
filbertway Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Very happy with this, hopefully he can stay fit and help us stay in the play offs and then possibly help us win them (definately not getting ahead of myself there).
Jonezy Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 But I wanted Koumas... Though prem quality striker can't be the worst thing to happen. Guess Kermo and Howard haven't taken the few chances they have been getting then. MM taking all the credits for this - bless him.
Matt Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 I am paying for this out of my own money Nicely slipped in MM. You're such a savior spending money out of your own pocket, on players for the club you own....
samjohnson Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Nice to see milan dipping into his back pocket to pay for this... Of course removing the dust, moths and ancient relics along the way to his wallet
Samilktray Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Nicely slipped in MM. You're such a savior spending money out of your own pocket, on players for the club you own.... Well hes not exactly Roman Abramovich, so its a good gesture all the same.
Matt Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Well hes not exactly Roman Abramovich, so its a good gesture all the same. Yeah fair play to him, just found it abit funny, as if we're meant to be impressed/surprised by it - Surely a majority of the money that is in the club should ultimatly come to him/be made by him.
Fox in a Box Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Why have we signed him. See him here. http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/denver/Staff.htm
The Padster Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Pleased with this. Should mean that if/when we have to sub attackers off in the final 20 we can keep a bit of pace and don't have to rely on the sluggish Howard.
bald reynard Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 I guess we've signed Vaughan on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer - and that's because Sunderland have 'knocked back' our plans to sign Waggie ? Although he's a bit taller than Waghorn, Vaughan is a very similar style player - and I bet Moyes' is keen to offload him, with his injury record.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Still only what, 19, 20? Seems to have been around for donkey's. Keep him fit and he's a better option than Kermorgant and Howard, in my opinion. Hopefully he impresses, would be chuffed if this was with a view to a permo.
StanSP Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 He's 21. Been around since 16 and is Prem's youngest ever goalscorer. Much better prospect than Kermo and outright better than Howard. Apparently Everton will look for around £5m in summer for permanent deal.

Surely the aim is for the club to be self sufficient, so we don't have to rely on having a sugar daddy to keep us going?

Matt Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Surely the aim is for the club to be self sufficient, so we don't have to rely on having a sugar daddy to keep us going? In this day and age with the financial problems and the amount of football clubs going out of business even in the premiership that isn't really a realistic option though is it?
Simo86 Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 He's 21. Been around since 16 and is Prem's youngest ever goalscorer. Much better prospect than Kermo and outright better than Howard. Apparently Everton will look for around £5m in summer for permanent deal. I doubt they'll want £5m. He's been out injured for ages and has little or no recent form. No club would pay that much surely. Everton must be kidding themselves if that is true. I'd say £1m-1.5m tops.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 great news top player hope bags a few goals for us him and waggy up front will be great
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Apparently Everton will look for around £5m in summer for permanent deal. Everton will not be getting that kind of cash for him, given the amount of time he's actually spent on the pitch in recent seasons. The big gays.
Podge Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 I am very happy with this move always been a fan of Vaughan, hope he works out for us, would bring us some much needed pace through the middle and I'd say is a better finisher that Waghorn. Official site says one month loan with option to extend to end of season, nothing about option to make permanent though, which I would have liked in spite of his freak injury record
Bryn Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Potentially a very good signing, but this see if he survives the next few months before we start suggesting spending 7 figures on him.
Sods Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Hopefully he can stay fit, sure he can fit in this system as well I seem to remember the guy being rapid.
maddog Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 What a great signing, this guy has got quality. To think the likes of Hayles, Hammond and Dickov were playing for us not long ago, now Vaughan, Waghorn and Gallagher. The improvement is fooking huge. And the likes of Sylla and Hughes have been replaced by Dyer and N'Guessan. We really are class. And if it's possible to improve that much again and get new players in, we will be well ready to compete in the PL, easily. Thats if it's possible to improve the same from Hammond to Fryatt to ? a lot better than Fryatt on a small budget. NP will find a way.
