Jay Spearing Liverpool youngster

Hello all,

Liverpool fan here, just coming in to give you some info on Jay and wish him and you luck for the rest of the season.

Reading this thread I think the opinion of most is that he's a defensive midfielder, but he isn't really. He's more of an attacking midfielder, but because of his pug-ugly face and bullish playing style you could be forgiven for thinking he's more of a destroyer than a creator. He CAN play in that DM role though, as well as both fullback positions, and he's the sort of player who will give his all wherever he plays.

He's not short on confidence, so expect him to get forward and take pot shots whenever he feels like it, and he's got a great eye for a pass too. He's joining you at the right time aswell because recently he's been in great form for the reserves. Take a look at some of the reserve game match reports on liverpoolfc.tv and you'll see that he's been getting man of the match in most of them, scoring too.

I'm not sure whether he'll ever get the chance to 'make it' with us, there just isn't the time to be sticking him in and hoping for the best, but I certainly expected him to have made a few more appearances than he has. He splits opinion with Liverpool fans, some say he's as good as Lucas so should play, others say he just hasn't got the build for it, but I think the honest opinion is that we just don't know either way, so seeing him play regularly for a Championship side is easily the best way to figure that out.

I think he'll do really well for you once he's settled, and I can guarantee you that he won't shy away from the stage.

Surely a perfect time with how Liverpool are performing and what with your season looking almost over, can't do much worse :giggle:

Sorry was no need for that you seem a decent poster just coming on here to give us on insight on one of you're players coming on loan here.

Great signing, looks like a creative player, hopefully producing some more goals from up front.

Welcome Jay! :scarf:

Season almost over? No way, we're still in Europe's premier competition - the Europa League!

On a serious note, it's not anything I haven't heard before, so you're alright. We've had a shocker.

Welcome to the forum.

He does sound as though he could be the kind of player we need in all honesty as we do lack a wee bit of bite in the middle of the park. A CM who can get forward and cause the opposition hassle at the back, and a degree of confidence and fresh legs will help us in the play-off charge. A very good review of Spearing from yourself and hopefully we'll be meeting at Anfield next season.

This can only be positive. I think our midfield needs strengthening, as IMO we lack creativity. Wellens has been playing good atm, along with King, but Oakley has been poor imo all season. I've not seen Jay Spearing much, but i'm guessing he can't be that bad as he's appeared for Liverpool in the Champs League and the Prem.

Loan signing until the end of the season - So that means the last game of the season?

What about if we do finish in the playoff/when the playoffs start, will we lose Waghorn, McGivern and Spearing or can we extend their loan signing during the playoffs at the players parent clubs descretion? This has just dawned on me.

I remember that Izzet was a loan signing but of course stayed into the Play-Offs. I don't know the details of the current loan rules but I would be surprised if the loans cannot be extended until the end of the Play-Offs.

Didn't know much about the lad but judging by the comments from Liverpool fans he seems a great prospect and could prove to be an inspired signing, we definitely need more competition in the middle of the park.

If he does well i'd love us to be able to sign (another) up and coming player permanently, but it doesn't look too likely. But we didn't expect to land Hobbs so who knows? Hopefully he'll get a run out tomorrow night, can't wait!

Good luck Jay.

I suppose you'd just extend it for an extra month. :dunno:

As a previous poster pointed out, our last Spearing was Tony, and he was crap. Jay-S, as I am now calling him will not be pants. "He's short, he's round, he's kicked you to the ground, Jay-S, Jay-S". Welcome, young man.

Just had a look at the team sheets from last years play off final. Craig Beattie was on loan last year at Sheff U and he played in the final, so I'm sure we'll do the same with our loan players (if we get there).

Going by the Liverpool fan description he sounds like a Mark Davies-esque player. I hope he gives us that last push over the finishing line.

Hmm unfortunately seems to be only short term.

Mercury

I read that as 'until end of season' is short term in Pearson's mind, comparing to his ideal scenario of capturing him permanently.

Everywhere else is saying it's until the end of the season.

Sounds very much like Tom Cleverley who we had from Man Utd last season. Can play in defence, but is as attacking as you like and loves a goal. Perfect.

I wonder what the odds on him scoring are? I have a big hunch he'll score tonight.

I'm feeling a last minute winner for us tonight, not necessarily him scoring though.
