Great Result, although the performance (particularly first 30 mins) wasn't the best, but we won so no-one can complain. I think Hobbs and Brown were excellent today, along with Spearing.

I didnt have a perfect view of Howard's challenge, but from what I did see, and the players reactions- it looked like he jumped in and it looked bad, and wasn't needed- their player was stuck on his own goal line, probably going to boot it in the stands for our throw. 2-0 up and had the game in the bag, nothing like that was needed. In hindsight it didn't make a difference but things couldve gone differently- but now he's out for 3 games- however I think Vaughan can step up to it, and hopefully Fryatt will be back soon.

I think the ref was poor today for both teams. Some of the decisions he made were ludacris. Not seen the highlights yet, but have heard our peno was lucky to be given. After that, I felt he wanted to even things up. There was many other little decisions he made which were clearly wrong. I don't think he had control of the game at all.

I also think the Watford players were DISGRACEFUL in running and surrounding the ref after Howard's challenge. It was like one of them warm ups you do when all the team has to run to the centre of a circle- all the players at the ref within 2 seconds.

Vaughan's goal was brilliantly taken. He totally outpaced the defender who had a 2-3 yard headstart. Spearing was top noch, well taken goal, and good on the ball. Hobbs and Brown were SOLID at the back. Hobbs made that brilliant block at 0-0, and if we conceded then, things could've gone a lot differently.

Hopefully the players dont get complacent and we beat Preston next week to secure our playoff place.

(PS. Do we have Waghorn, Spearing and Vaughan for the playoffs if we get there? I think we do but just making sure)

Another thing to add- I think NP got his tactics spot on today. At the start of the 2nd half, we didn't go defensive cause we had 10 men, we still went for the goal with 2 up top, playing 4-3-2. Think this worked a bit better as we could play 3 CM's in the CM pos, and not one on the wing.

What happened in the Watford end in the first half, does anyone know?

Was told by a fellow fan the stewards took expection to couple of our fans goading your mob and they tried to get one bloke out but he wouldn't move.

I was in the home end directly opposite the away support (I kept quiet and did the usual clapping when you scored!)

Not that your a rough bunch or anything.

Well done lads.

For 35 mins thought we were in the game and creating a couple of good chances before the debatable penalty decision it seems and then we we usually do gifted a 2nd quuckly afterwards.

Not sure what Howard exactly got sent off for but for whatever reason with the good change Pearson made at half time we really seemed much who affected by having a man advantage and made it too easy for you guys really after the break.

Good luck in the play-offs.

I think what we did today was good. THe performance, even though we scored 4 times, was at times good. at times average. WHat pleased me most was how we destroyed a team which set their stall up for a point. We had some luck with the penaly. I thought it was a good tackle and the goal made watford puch on for the equaliser which then left them exposed.

Top performance today, got the win i expected but its always nice to win by a few! The ref had a really poor game, but as soon as i saw the name Nigel Miller i expected exactly that. The guys a clown.

Cant wait for Preston now! BIG game!!

Great result. Could've easily been more goals for us too. Couldn't fault a single player today, including Howard because he'd been having a great game up until the sensing off, plus I couldn't exactly tell from the kop how bad it was.

Was really impressed with Vaughan for the time he was on today

He's here, he's there, he's every fcukin where Jack Hobbs, Jack Hobbs!

Delighted with that, The midfield was as fluid as ive seen this season and Vaughen 2nd half performance was also pleasing. What a season this is turning out to be scarf.gif

Read on the watford forum that the ball was kicked into the watford fans and hit a kid in the head, his dad threw the ball back and hit a steward...and that caused the problems????

well it hit the black mesh stuff they use to segregate the crowd then bounced down to the back of the exit so...

The people around me had a go at me for not applauding Howard off of the pitch. Sorry, but you don't applaud a player who's just made a pointless, reckless challenge. Thought Spearing was MOTM today. He was all over the pitch, great goal and performance.

Agreed, the part of the Kop where I sat was clapping Howard off like he'd scored a hat-trick or something, it was ridiculous. His stupidity could've cost us the game and may well still affect our play-off chances now that he's out for 3 games. I was critical of Wellens when he got sent off against Newcastle, but Howard today was completely unprofessional and in no-way deserved any kind of applause.

So its not true then. :dunno:

More than one watford fan saw what happend, cant see why they would be wrong, one bloke on the forum even knew the person kicked out.

unless the kid was stood on the mesh i seriously doubt it.

might have bounced of the back of the exit and hit him but tbh it's still a major over reaction from the watford fans.

Quality result again.

Everybody put a good shift in again today Spearing was quality but Hobbs just continues to get better and better and as strange as it may sound the tackle he made after Morrison lost possession trying to jockey the ball out for a goal kick was one of the highlights of the day for me. I think we could have a real star in the making.

Just compare him to their centre half Bennett who was absolutely shocking.

Don't normally comment on refs but oh dear...

Heard that too.

No idea but something serious must have happened to set off our fans.

We're more know for not creating much of an atmosphere and lacking passion rather than cuasing porblems!

Bennett is a young lad who is just coming into the game and done well in previous matches but is always likely to have an off day...your strikers are no mugs ofcourse being from Premiership teams.

Quite frankly our whole defence all season has been pretty woeful.

Great performance all round. Watford's players certainly left the ref with litle option but to issue Howard with a red, but that foul probably deserved a red and Howard was utterly stupid to put himself in that situation. As well as he played prior to his sending off, I can't applaud a player after he has let the club down like that. After questioning the quality of some of our players recently, I was pleased to see a number of top drawer performances. It's ominous, though, and a sad indictment of the system that allows big teams to own dozens of players, that three of our very best players today were loanees who will almost certainly not be with us next season.

To be fair, where i was sitting, we couldn't see the challenge, that's why i stood up and applauded. Looked like the two Watford players tussled on him to me. :dunno: Can someone tell me what happened as i don't know if i'll stay awake for FLS..

Fooking M-fooking-1, only just got in, so as usual for those of you unable to make it to the game a considered view from a (mostly) seated position.

Let's get the rubbish out of the way first;-

The ref was dreadful, up until the penalty I thought he was just a 'homer', about time we got one of those, but in fact he was awful and just got worse as the game went on. Generally I do not like having a go at refs, it's a tough job but this guy was the pits.

The Watford defense was appalling, I could have scored against that lot, and I was a keeper, for my sins!

We were not great until the penalty went in, Watford were pretty much our match in midfield and looked lively upfront, we were playing OK but nothing special, Watford were perhaps just shading it, but it was pretty even. The penalty was, I thought soft, nice to get it but you would not have been best pleased to have it given against you. Gallagher's strike just before half time was more deserved and we had been pressing well. Up until this point we had been playing very narrow, virtually a diamond with Gallagher at the 'point' and it had not been great, 2-0 was a bit flattering.

Howard's tackle was poor, a deliberate, two footed lunge that had Jenkins jumping for his life, the red card was deserved plus a 3 game ban, what was he thinking... :dunno:

The substitution of Vaughn for Gallagher turned out to be inspired, I often complain about Pearson's substitutions but this was first class. Our 4-3-2 was able to catch Watford pushing forward so many times that 4-0 really did not flatter us, Watford got forward a fair amount but rarely threatened.

Spearing and Vaughan both took their goals well and, for the first time in a City shirt, both looked fit and raring to go. Up until today I sort of assumed they were making up the numbers but both looked excellent today, good signings... :appl:

In the end we were easy winners but Watford were poor defensively, still with the other results the way they were, the points were very valuable.

if I get a chance I will post a 'player rating' tomorrow, just to let you know how well or otherwise I thought everyone played, as for now I am completely cream crackered so I am off to bed...

Okay so ive skipped through but notied comments on the howard tackle... from people in the kop  yes youve got a great view of it from there lol.

It was a tackle similar to one i had seen earlier in the day in the manchester derby from paul scholes... the tackle was quick and strong and howard got the ball first, very clear from were I was, sure he went in from behind but the only thing there was two things that got him sent off... A) The ref had to level up the worst penalty decision in history lol... B) The over reaction of the tackled player....

After the incident I saw howard being kicked in the head by at least three watford players.... So theres the men who should of been sent off!

Anyway... fantastic game... been to the last two games at the walkers after 2 months in malaysia and its been 4-0 and 4-1... Absolutely love jay spearing... howard was class for 40 minutes and james vaughn showed some incredible pace and strength for his finish!

What a season, what a season.

And almost certainty of 2 playoff matches and possibly wembley to finish it off, unbelieveable.

With regard to the stewards, police and watford fans the ball did seem to strike somebody, think it was booted by Gallagher after the pen was scored, clearly a massive over-reaction though from both fans and stewards.

Also noticed they had a go again when Gallagher scored and then when the fourth went in, police went running up the stairs as the Watford fans made their exit.

Not normally the sort of fans you put on par with Leeds, Millwall, Stoke etc and I think the days where we would get say Chelsea travelling with lower teams fans to cause trouble are pretty rare.

But then when you consider their only derby game to be Luton Town, its no wonder they get over excitable on awaydays :D
