Watford Post Match Thread

Great win, especially having played the whole second half with 10 men. Well done Pearson for going with Vaughan rather than bringing on another midfielder to keep it tight.

Looks like Boro are about to slip out the play off picture, so just Blackpool to keep at bay now.

Last time we beat Watford 4-1 we changed division, hope thats a good omen and it happens again, just in the right direction this time.

The referee needs to book himself a plane ticket, get on the next plane out of this country when this no-fly zone is lifted, and never come back to referee again.

He was a disgrace.

He was so utterly clueless, the 4th official was constantly telling him what was going on, on other parts of the pitch, to keep him up to speed via those earpieces they wear. She was probably reading out the rules of the game as well. Chinese whispers gone pear shaped.

His most ludicrous decision, the one where he waved away a clear foul for a high boot to the head, when he gave his decision on that felt that the player (I think it was Vaughan, I was so incensed at the time it might not have been) had put his head in the way of the foot of the opposing player. Therefore no foul. lol

This happened before the very fair challenge where Vaughan won the ball cleanly to which the referee brandished a yellow card!

Total joke.

Never understand why people slate a referee even after a win. Pointless.

Apparently Howard was right to walk and we got lucky with the penalty.

Very important win, four goals again at home. Even better to see we didn't sit on the 2-0 lead, we only really sat back at 4-0.

Howard's challenge looked silly, the defender was going nowhere, didn't need to dive in like that. He was playing well until that point. Apart from that decision, the ref was poor. Certain fouls not given, and a strong tackle from Vaughan resulted in a booking when it looked a good challenge.

Spearing's goal was lovely, and Vaughan showed good pace to beat the defender and slot home.

Still need one win to be sure, but we're looking good currently.

Whatever happens, thanks Nigel and the lads for a very positive season

Just because we won doesn't mean the ref's performance has to be ignored. He was shocking, didn't know what he was doing at all.

From where I was it looked like he lunged in and it appeared like he hit the guy quite high.

I've gave my view on the match that i'm happy, great win, great performance, so this is a reply to your post.

If a referee's shit a referee's shit, no matter if we've won or not, Why should a win take away an opinion - a bad opinion of a poorly run game by the officials, we're not saying they've done us any harm they havn't but the officials still made dodgy, questionable decisions.

I'll be honest I didn't see Howards tackle to be sent off I was in the toilet, but I heard Stringer after the match on RL (So not the most reliable of sources) say the linesman said it was just a caution, therefore my question is - What the point in lineman if they are there to help them? As I said I didn't see the tackle Howard made, maybe the ref had a better view but from what I was told the linesman would have had a better view.

Fair enough, I was behind Vaughan and it looked like he played the ball. Didn't have the best view of it really.

Vaughan got the ball, I saw it clearly, that's why he was complaining at the ref late on asking why he booked him, this was why Wayne Brown had to come over and tell him to STFU.

I was a bit worried about Vaughan - just after he scored his goal he seemed to be having trouble with his stomach

He had his hands down his shorts and was clutching his bollocks.

From the West Stand it looked like he played the ball.

Some shocking decisions by the ref today.

which kind of invalidates your opinion, really.

after all, when the ref produced the card, stringer actually thought it was a yellow - if he can't tell the difference between yellow and red, then i wouldn't go around posting your opinion based on it.

The people around me had a go at me for not applauding Howard off of the pitch. Sorry, but you don't applaud a player who's just made a pointless, reckless challenge. Thought Spearing was MOTM today. He was all over the pitch, great goal and performance.

Really pleased with the way we bagged another two goals after going down to 10, positive stuff instead of just shutting up shop.

If the assessor gives that Ref 0 out of 10 then he's being kind, a shocking display.

Looking forward to Preston now, wouldn't write off Peterboro against Blackpool, Gary Johnson will be looking for a response after their 6-0 drubbing, just need to replicate whatever Blackpool's result is and we're done now that boro have blown it.

From where i was sitting, i could see why he was sent off. It didn't look a particularly nice challenge, and Howard's got something of a reputation that follows him around. So whilst i clapped the guy off, it was for his performance before the (admittedly) very fooking stupid challenge that saw him dismissed. Hopefully Pearson tore him a new on at half time.

Did anyone find Howard 'Stare of Death' funny at the time?

The ref was the other side of the pitch and even after the scuffle started just seem to amble across.

From where I was sat it looked like he took his legs out, irrespective it was a stupid tackle to make in the circumstances and the blokes an idiot along with all those singing his name that tackle could easily have put big dent in our play off chances. He needs to eat humble pie tonight and buy Pearson, his backroom staff and the players a slap up meal for saving his arse.

On RL Pearson said that according to the players the linesman told the ref it was a caution.

It's a shame Howard had to go and do that, his partnership with Waggy was looking good and now he's gonna be missing for the next 3 games.

Pleased that Vaughan got a goal today, hopefully he can be the natural replacement for Howard. With Fryatt returning soon as well, Howard may find it hard to get back in the team after his suspension.

Likewise I don't understand the applause, might be a bit old fashioned here but you get applause at the start and the end of the game, and obviously for good play/goals but for being a sub, running out for the 2nd half and for being sent off and letting your team down, I just find it odd. Can't remember a manager applauding a player off for getting a red.

The ref was piss poor but its probably a combination of a bad tackle and then a volley of dissent that's done the job.

Very even game till we scored but a great performance in the end, especially with ten men.

Ref was shit, let almost everything go the only thing he did right was give us a peno.

Shame other results didnt go our way but we are almost there now.

From where I was, it looked no worse than Howard's challenge. Both, IMO, a booking, no more. Howard was sent off because of the way the Watford players (running over to punch and kick another player is worth a red card) and fans (who had stopped squabbling especially to moan) reacted.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant and I loved the fact that we carried on attacking rather than defending when we went down to 10-men.

Shame can't say the same about the ref.
