Milans Foxes Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 So, we have made the play-offs!! Looking at the squad at the start of the season, I was honestly very confident of us finishing in the top 6. WIth Big NIge being able to get the best out of the players, some of whom have never even played at Championship level reminds me of the squad under O'Neill! Its been 14 years since we last made the play-offs and I feel like a little kid a week before Christmas!! I've been thinking about who should start next Sunday and for the first time in a long time, I don't have a clue! So, how good is the current squad?? Firstly, we have two very capable goalkeepers. Wealo has arguably been our best, most consistent performer this season and massive credit goes to Conrad Logan who has sat on the bench 45 times this season and when called upon, put in a motm performance against Boro. Next, to right back, we currently have 4 potential options. Solano's experience and ability on the ball, Morrison's enthusiasm and strength, Bruce's solidity and Robbie Nielsen. Not a bad choice for one position! We have 4 very capable centre backs in Brown, Hobbs, Morrison and Bruce (not forgetting Tunchev). And a choice of 3 at left-back with Berner being the obvious choice with Mcgivern and Powell as adequate back-up. King, Spearing and Wellens have been absolute quality the last few weeks and if Pearson has to leave one out on Sunday, then it will be tough deciding on who! Also Adams and Oakley as back-up! N'Guessan showed his quality yesterday and I have seen him terrorise defenders all season when he has played! Dyer is unplayable when he's high on confidence and on top of that we have Gally who depsite being a bit inconsistent earlier in the year has been a top performer recently. And to the strikers, Waghorn, Vaughan, Fryatt, Kermorgant and Howard (for the second leg) all of whom are in some sort of goalscoring form gives us the best choice of strikers for as long as I can remember. So, who to play next week, its tough, we have genuine depth to the squad and I couldn't even guess which formation Nige will pluck for: Weale Morrison (if fit, if not, Nobby) Hobbs Brown Berner King Wellens Spearing N'Guessan Waghorn Dyer Bench: Logan Fryatt Vaughan Kermo Bruce Gally Adams I could literally choose about 8 different Iine-ups for the game, all of which I believe will get us a win! I for one can't wait!! Bring on a trip to Wem-ber-ley!!! I think we will do them 4-1 at home for the record! (completely forgot gally as well so swapped him for Powell on bench)
Guest Mee-9 Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison Brown Hobbs Berner Gallagher King Wellens Dyer Fryatt Waghorn
dpjfox Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison (if unfit Bruce) Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing King Wellens Gally (or Dyer) Waghorn Vaughan (or Fryatt) Spearing to play same side as Burke to kick his arse
Jay Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 From what I saw of Fryatt yesterday he's a long way from starting, maybe not physically but mentally looked like he pulled out and was apprehensive of jumping and making headers, which is understandable when your jaw has been broken, but we can't afford that in a player. Weale Morrison or Nobby Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing King Wellens Dyer / Gallagher Vaughan Waghorn
MikeyT Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing Wellens King Dyer Waghorn Gallagher Subs: Fryatt, Logan, Vaughan, Kermo, Bruce, Adams, N'Guessan
bluebeau Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 When I heard yesterdays team announced, it reminded me of the Martin O'Neil days. One season when we were on a good cup run ( I think it was the Worthington/Carling/League Cup) there were quite a lot of injuries & MON had to dip into the squad players. I remember thinking that we couldn't win with the team that he had to put out, but we did win, can't be sure but we may have been playing Villa? Yesterdays team & the way they won just shows what a strong squad we have for The Championship. And let's not forget, Boro' aren't a bad side, they were close to getting into the play offs. I certainly like the look of Alex Bruce, hope we sign him as a permanent. Conrad Logan definetly MOM. Going on that display, we have 2 top keepers, & credit due to Logan, he has been on the bench all season & puts in a performance as good as any that Weale has produced all season. Ryan McGiven, I have certainly had my doubts about the lad, but he had a decent game yesterday & put in a good 90mins work. Don't want to take anything for granted, but imo we have a great chance of getting to Wembley & going on to win.
willchafer Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 weale berner hobbs brown morrison king wellens spearing dyer waghorn gallagher for the second leg i would suggest going to a 4-4-2 so stevie howard would come in for dyer.
Dylan Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison/Solano Hobbs Brown Berner Gallagher King Wellens Spearing Waghorn Vaughan Subs: Logan, Bruce, Oakley, Dyer, Nguessan, Kermorgant, Fryatt Hopefully Morrison is fit to return at RB. Think Brown should be back in the side. One tough decision for NP will be the midfield. Spearing HAS to play in my opinion, he is class and looks quality. And then Andy King has to start too, with all the goals he's grabbed this season. Also, Wellens has been playing great lately. So them 3 MUST START in my opinion. 4-4-2 has been working great recently so we should stick with that. So that 4th place in midfield would be out of Gallagher and Dyer on one of the wings. Personally, I would start Gallagher as he's great technically, and could whip in some great crosses and is good at setpieces. And then bring on Dyer with about 20 minutes to go, full of energy, running at the tiring Cardiff defence. I wouldn't start Fryatt- dont think he's fully match fit. Leave him on the bench, and start with Waggy and Vaughan. Bring Fryatt on for last 20 minutes. We've been playing great recently with 5 wins on the spin. We need to carry this momentum into the playoffs. I feel we need a home win, as itll be tough going to Cardiff needing to win. We're capable of defending a lead going into the 2nd leg. My prediction- Leicester 2-1 Cardiff (Waghorn, King; Chopra)
Bert Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 I'd go for Weale Morrison (Bruce if not) Brown Hobbs Berner Wellens King Spearing Gallagher Waghorn Vaughan Subs: Logan Neilson/Bruce Dyer Adams Kermogant Fryatt Oakley
Webbo Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 I'd go for Weale Morrison (Bruce if not) Brown Hobbs Berner Wellens King Spearing Gallagher Waghorn Vaughan Subs: Logan Neilson/Bruce Dyer Adams Kermogant Fryatt Oakley I think that will be it apart from maybe N'guessan on the bench instead of Kermogant.
Corky Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Bruce Berner Spearing King Wellens Gallagher Dyer Waghorn
AoWW Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Bruce Berner Spearing King Wellens Gallagher Dyer Waghorn No Brown?
Tommy G Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 Weale Berner Hobbs Brown Morrison Spearing King Wellens Gallagher Waghorn Vaughan
Ric Flair Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Bruce Berner Spearing King Wellens Gallagher Dyer Waghorn This is the team for me with Fryatt, N'Guessan and Kermorgant coming on if things need changing up top. I've realised that doesn't include James Vaughan, who is very close to showing his Premiership class and that would devastate any team in the play-offs, so it just shows how strong our squad is right now. Fook it, it's over to you thankfully Nigel to pick the team.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing Wellens King Dyer Waghorn Gallagher Subs: Fryatt, Logan, Vaughan, Kermo, Bruce, Adams, N'Guessan This, im all over this....
Podge Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing Wellens King Dyer Waghorn Gallagher Subs: Fryatt, Logan, Vaughan, Kermo, Bruce, Adams, N'Guessan This is exactly as I would line us up. It's exciting to think that we have attackers of the calibre of Fryatt and Vaughan on the bench to bolster our attack, especially since the last few weeks Vaughan has started to look like he can dominate whichever centre back he is put up against at this level
Messi Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner Spearing Wellens King Gallagher Vaughan Waghorn
dogadug Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 I'd go for.. Weale Berner Hobbs Brown Morrison Spearing King Wellens Gallagher Waghorn Vaughan The pace of those 2 up front could cause all sorts of trouble, and spearing on the left can man mark Burke!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Got to admit, I didn't think the squad was strong enough to acheive what they have this season, thought mid table would've been cracking.
