City Release Seven

Leicester City have decided not to offer seven players a new contract at the football club ahead of the 2010-2011 season.

One of the players is former club captain Stephen Clemence who called time on his career earlier in the season after losing a long battle with a heel injury.

Young Irish forward Billy Kee, who has spent the season on loan at Accrington Stanley scoring nine goals, will also be leaving the club.

The contracts of Robbie Burns, Alex Cisak, Carl Pentney, Levi Porter and the Astrit Ajdarevic will all not be renewed.

No surprises, really.

Just what I was about to write... it'll be interesting to see what Pearson now does in the market to strengthen the squad.

Why do you say that? None of these players even played for us this season. It's not like they need to be replaced.

Ajdarevic, what a crap player he was.

Lots of lovely wages freed up. Dickov paid off earlier this season, Clemence off the books, now all we need to do is ship out Oakley and DJ and we'll have a bit of cash to play with.

If we assume Dickov, Clemence, Oakley and DJ were paid 70k a week between them last season, which sounds about right, that's over £3.5 million saved. Blackpool will have paid a proportion of DJ's wages for half the season, Dickov may have taken less in order to be released and insurance may have covered some of Clemence's, but that's still got to be a couple of million spare.

It's like when you're trying to get in shape yourself for summer - get rid of that bloody extra piece of weight.

Good news. Although we're a bit short in the goalkeeping department with both Pentney and Cisak leaving. Are there any academy lads moving up the ranks?

Robbie Burns - never really good enough?

Sad to see Kee go, he has potential. But money talk$, I guess.

It's not going to free up that much money.

All those released today are going to be on low wages, so they're not going to boost our coffers much. Clemence's wages I would assume were covered by the insurance, so there won't be huge savings these. Dickov will have been paid off so no saving there. Oakley and Dj are on huge wages so the chances are we'll have to pay a portion of their wages next season whether they are with us or at another club.

Unfortunately, I can't help but feel we will have very little money to play with unless Mandaric succeeds in getting extra investment into the club. So to be honest, i expect another season of loans and cheapish players.

Totally agree I can't see how anyone can dispute that.

Surely an extra few need to be released as well dont they? What about Ashley Chambers? or Wesolowski?

They can't be released as they are still under contract for another year, all those released had come to the end of their contracts.

Ajdarevic was totally turd. I can't believe he even played for us. I bet he fluked a goal in a game they were scouting and tricked himself into a move.

Flippin' poo.

I can't pretend to know the ins and outs of this insurance but I somehow doubt we were being given the full sum of his wages by some kindly insurance company. Dickov was paid off but that money still came from this years budget and more than likely included most of the sum of his wages for the past year. If we get rid of DJ and Oakley over the summer, which seems likely to my mind (especially since Blackpool may be promoted and would seem likely to gamble on him as a 3rd or 4th striker, not to mention reported interest and a fee(!!!) for Oakley) we'll have taken a lot of dead weight off the wage budget. Steve Howard is likely to be on biggish money too and selling him seems like a 50/50 shot too.

We also have to remember the new 'solidarity agreement' where we get given £2.2 million by the football league this season instead of £350,000. This applies to all clubs and doubtless all will be looking to spend the bulk of this, but it means we're in a better position as a league to borrow players from the Premier League and snap up promising players from League One.

Also bear in mind that average attendances should be a little higher next season after an exciting season of relative success. Might only be in the range of 500-1000 a week but that's still a good amount of money. Media interest will be higher so we might be on the telly a bit more (£££!), whatever sponsor we end up with will likely be paying more, (£££!) and we'll probably flog more tawdry shit in the megastore.

What's happening to ticket prices this coming season, I've not heard anything?

Anyway so long as Mandy is happy to continue taking a £5 million loss as he's said before, we'll be a fair bit better off and should have some money to spend on signings. Even last summer when people were disappointed we still spent £1 million on Wellens. One big (hopefully attacking) signing, a couple of cheap, reasonably skillful grafters and the kind of nous in the loan market we've seen from Pearson before - I don't see what there is to be pessimistic about.

Hamilton adore Wesowlowski as far as I'm aware and iirc there was talk of him going there perminantly a month or two back.

Ashley Chambers should probably be given another season to see if he's up to it, if not I'm sure he'd slot in nicely at a League 2 club somewhere.

Now Levi is gone is anyone allowed to say what he did that was so bad? :dunno:

No!

What? You mean that just because a footballer doesn't play for the team I support I can't make potentially slanderous comments???? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

I'm concerned about Billy Kee leaving, I think this one will come back to haunt us. He's been recognised at International level with Northern Ireland and has a decent season at Accrington. He will improve with age, seems to be a natural goal scorer and is a strong as an ox. I can understand him wanting to go and get some first team experience in the lower leagues but releasing him thats a no for me. I would of loved to of seen him him come off the bench this season and been given a chance. His record at youth team level is outstanding. Good luck to the boy hope it works out for him elsewere. I will be watching his progress.

The problem is to progress as a footballer you need first team football which we can't offer him here. We could loan him out for the next few years but if I remember correctly he's stated he wants to join a club permanently which makes sense as a pro footballer. You want to feel wanted by a club and not just there for the short term.

Fairplay I say and good luck to him in the future.

I didn't realise Levi Porter was still on the books !

Talks of him stepping down to as low as the senior league from what I hear. Which as harsh as I may have been on him at times is ridiculous.
