Germany v Australia - Sunday 7:30 ITV

There obviously is since the English team don't play like it. The difference in movement and passing between the teams is quite clear.

But they question has always been why? I don't fancy many of the Germans as individual players who play in a poor Bundesliga (despite a luck of the Bavarians Bayerns run in the CL this year) but as a team they can just turn it on where as we choke.

Then again we aren't the only ones, the Dutch have always had the same problem (so did the Spanish until very recently), great on paper, but something is wrong when they step on to the field with the shirt on. Its a baffling one it really is.

Hopefully FIFA dismiss that red card. Complete joke. Cahill isn't really a dirty player, I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been Lucas Neill sent off for a tackle like that.

comprehensive from the germans but with the chances for klose and the two one-on-ones ozil was presented with the germans could and perhaps should have hit double figures.

Never a red card - yellow at max but that had no real bearing on the result judging on the way Germany took them apart before that.

I have to agree with Alexei here. Cahill can have no complaints about it. It was late, it was dangerous, he had no intention of getting the ball and he went in from BEHIND. How anyone can claim that's "never a red card" is astonishing in my opinion

It was a very good performance from the Germans but let's not get carried away here. They were against a poor Australia side who were dreadful at the back, and duly got what they deserved as a result. Cahill should never have been sent off though, that was a bad decision from the referee.

Still, credit where it's due Germany did their jobs well by putting them to the sword and should have even had more. I'm still riled by the two outrageous dives though, full credit to the ref on that one for dishing out the yellows.

Long way to go.

They were playing pretty handsomely against 11 men.

I've really enjoyed watching a decent team playing some decent footy, having had to go through the Algeria-Slovenia match, and the France-Uruguay one this is a breath of fresh air, even though it's so one sided.

Hey, I agree with you there matey but let me just refer you to the best post this thread has seen....

I went to the game tonite before the kick off it was probably one of the best nites/days of my life. Being one of 2000 Aussies walking to the ground was an unbelivable feeling all of us having travelled so far to see a team that will struggle in all three games. All the TV net works and the famous Aussies coming to visit us is unbelivable.

The game was the worst i've ever seen i knew we would struggle but to struggle as badly as we did was just disgraceful. I don't really give a shit about the result but it's how poorly we played. I'll stay true to my team i'm still a bloody proud Aussie.

Germany are a class of their own and their current efficiency and team work rate will carry them a long way.

The Roos should be ashamed of sending such a terrible team to the World Cup - at least Low had the guts to sort it out, them Australians still come up with the same team that competed in the WC four years ago.

Then again, it shows with what weak competition the teams in the AFC region are dealing in the qualifying stages.

There is no one else, we don't have the youth systems like your Germanys. If we don't have the players we don't have the players.

Sorting out your back four and telling Cahill to run the midfield instead of running from the midfield would be a start.

Oh, and Mark Schwarzer had a bad day at the office.

Craig Moore has had his day he has had testicular cancer, retired more times than any one else, he currently doesn't have a club but there is no one else to play there. Wilkshere and Chipperfeild our full backs predominelty play midfeild for there clubs. Neil played as a full back until the lead up to the last World Cup. Cahill was actually playing as a forward with Richie Gracia both of them are Attacking Midfeilders but we don't have many other options.

I'll take the critiscim for my team Alexie but for you to expect us to compete with the Germans and saying we should have a better squad. Well mate you know fook all about Australian football have your opinion and be done with it cos all you have done is slate us in this thread. Tonite i sat about 25 hours on a plane from home with about 15,000 Aussies exactly like me and guess what we are all bleeding but we expected it because we are not a big footballing nation and we know that the squad we have is the best we could put together. Yes we would like to have a more attacking squad but our 3 forwards we have in the squad is Kewell injured (probably a winger more than a forward). Kennedy plays in Japan. Rukavitsa who plays 2nd tier of Belgum football.....The point i'm trying to make is we don't have the cattle to compete with the big boys but don't write us off against Ghana or Serbia.

Schwarzer could struggle in the next 10 internationals but he has more credits than that builit up over thejourney.

He was playing as a Centre forward tonight, so how can he run the midfield?

Really enjoyed that, Germany played some wonderful stuff - very entertaining. Great mix of young talent and experience by the looks of things. That said, Australia looked poor and are the worst team in that group, think Ghana will get through now.

Thoughts on the Cahill challenge was that it looked like he tried to pull out after initially looking to nail him. Thought he deserved to walk in all honesty.

Listen, I'm not going to slate your commitment or that of your Aussie peers. You're doing a great job down there supporting your team and you should enjoy every second of it.

And I'm sorry about Moore who had to seek treatment for cancer.

I wasn't expecting your team to beat one of the world's biggest footballing nations. But at least you lot could've tried a bit harder.

The Australian national squad's had four years to build upon the achievements from the last World Cup (where you were one of the more positive surprises and only narrowly missed out on the quarter finals) and then one resorts to field an almost 1:1 copy of the 2006 squad.

You're lamenting your nation's lack of quality youth players and an academy set-up. But honestly - what have you lot done in the past few years then? Nowt? You're telling me that in a 22-million nation, you can't come up better than this?

And we have a 60million nation, yet we still have most of the players we had in the WC four years ago.

Try harder?!

Its not about trying harder (which is the main part of Australias 'bush culture'), the fact is that they put their best team they have available out, and was outplayed by one of the best teams at the tournament. Jeez.

And Germany would have put 2 or 3 past England had we played them tonight.
