Jay Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Stringer update... Alan Birchenall MBE will have his near 40 year association with Leicester City ended it seems.BBC Radio Leicester, 104.9fm from 7am for more
haraven Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 updated the twitter to "Alan Birchenall MBE's 40 year link with Leicester City forced to end it seems.BBC Radio Leicester, 104.9fm from 7am for more " ... why can't we just have a normal pre-season? I know many are a bit "tired" of the Birch, but he has stood by this club for 40 years, and it would be sad if he was forced out the door.¨ He is a proper club legend.

He deserves to go with a great deal of respect and gratitude for his efforts over the years, he's part of the furniture and while it may be time to upgrade to something more modern, he certainly deserves the opportunity to go with dignity and a proper chance to say goodbye from himself and from the fans. You just hope he's given that chance and not forced out and told to keep quiet if you like
ousefox Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 He' s a legend. I know he is on £30/40k a year but he's a great guy and has done loads of great things for the club.
Stevosevic Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 B*ll*cks if it's for financial reasons, if he's on 30/40k a week, thats probably less than half of one players wages. Something has probably gone on that we will never find out about.
dogadug Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Surely if we're in takeover talks, the club could afford to keep hold of him? There must be another reason.
Karljohn Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Seems like the club are trimming things down in all departments, I'm normally ok with the ticket office but had some problems in the last 3 weeks regarding a season ticket and it just seems that they are in disarray and seem to be short on numbers, no money being spent on players, birch leaving. Drove past the family stand on Sunday and thought it looked really shabby aswell, could do with a lick of paint in places, just seems like we aint got a pot to piss in. Had so many people tell me that NP met the new owners and before you could say Jack Hobbs, he was off to Hull. What next Filbert Fox?
renards Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Used to be part time, he was involved in shoes sales (wholesale) and of course had his pub. May be time to move on? not a full time job, sure he would get a decent living doing his after dinner stuff. Walshy in the wings?
Guest Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 What next Filbert Fox? Vicky & Cousin Dennis first surely

It doesn't involve the non delivery of a season ticket and subsequent fob offs of the ilk "it was sent 2 days ago" perchance?
Corky Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 agree with that he has been at the club for 40 years and has been a fixture at every game for me since I first started going over 20 years ago. You just hope he's given that chance and not forced out and told to keep quiet if you like Agree with this. Would be very strange not to see him at half-time or before the match. Yes he goes on a bit and does get paid quite well but he cares about the club and deserves to go with dignity and a good send-off.
Cheese Me Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Huge shame if this is true, especially if it's not his own decision. As the poster above said, hard to imagine this is for purely financial reasons and I don't really see what benefit there could be to the club in turfing him out.
Karljohn Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 It doesn't involve the non delivery of a season ticket and subsequent fob offs of the ilk "it was sent 2 days ago" perchance? Actually my nephews ticket, basically he and his mum have left their home to which the ticket has been sent, its not retrievable and the person residing there isnt sending it on, so I have been in contact with the club for last 3-4 weeks and assured by the normally reliable Jim that having given it 2 weeks they could re-issue, almost 4 weeks now and the message left for me today was "we can reissue the ticket as soon as we have the ticket back from you"? WTF? if I have the ticket back then I wont need it reissuing! Kid lost his dad last November so I get this season ticket to occupy his mind and give him something to look forward to, Birch was really top notch around his dads funeral also, attending the scattering of ashes down at the memorial garden etc! Just seems like customer relations are somewhat strained at the moment!
Master Fox Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 first news that Fryatt is going, and now Birch... Well..   Brilliant. Someone out there is starting to take notice. Thank you my lovely Great news It gets better everyday
Roxum James Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 We cannot lose Birch! I know there is a few facebook groups but this is the one I have joined: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=102918066433654&ref=ts#!/group.php?gid=102918066433654&ref=ts Fans need to come together and show how much the Birch means to the club! = Legend
Stevosevic Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 Not too bothered to be honest, I appreciate he is a legend of the club but he adds nothing to a matchday for me. This football club has a lot of legends, but they don't all need to be parading themselves on the pitch at half time.
lcfcbradyboy Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 i dont realy get this has he left ? so we cant see him run on the last home game no more
Webbo Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 i dont realy get this has he left ? I think from what I've heard (on the radio)that the club are making him retire when he turns 65 later this month. I hope they get someone in to replace him, I quite like watching the kids run around the pitch at half time.
Collymore Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 With The Birch, the problem comes when he grabs that mic during match day. Sometimes you get people that are so bad at things they become good or funny, The Birch IMO is so bad at talking and being funny that he falls into the annoying category. If anyone wants an example of how bad the guy is, sign up to Foxesplayer and watch and listen to the quizes he did on there. He couldn't even read a simple sentence and the players were looking at him as if they had lost all respect. It's obvious I'm not a fan of his but anything he does behind the scenes out of the public eye can do no harm. It's nice to hear him spending time with families at the memorial garden and putting himself out though and i think this is where he should be utilised.
wurmer Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 Surely if we're in takeover talks, the club could afford to keep hold of him? There must be another reason. First thing that happens when prepping or negotiating to sell a company, is to trim back on all 'unnecessary' outgoings - makes the forecasts look better.
carterfox90 Posted 4 August 2010 Posted 4 August 2010 Well he is 65 in three weeks. milans over 65 so he should go as well & on the way out the door take this joker hoos with you 1st he loses us nigel now the birch the guy has done a hell of alot of good through the good & bad times whats going on at our club at the moment!!
