BoneDog Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 That's what Yann meant to do! Couldn't pick who I wanted to win this one. Gutted for Ghana but happy for Uruguay.
MC Prussian Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Suarez celebrating with the rest of the team - the cheeky ****er! Hero.
Ozwin Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 That was insane. That'll be the match we remember from this WC for years to come.
MikeyT Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Wonder if Kermorgant saw that last penalty from Uruguay!
Finnegan Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Gutted for Ghana. But I have to say, watching Marcel Desailly go on about how much he loves his country and how gutted he is for them makes me feel somewhat nauseous. If it meant so much to him he could have represented them at international level.
Finnegan Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Suarez celebrating with the rest of the team! He won it for them, to be fair. Took a risk and it paid off. I can understand if people are angry with him in hindsight though I can also understand him do it out of pure reactions. Our club captain when I was about fifteen did the same thing, just a reflex handball save on the line in a high pressure game - only this is high pressure times a million.
Ozwin Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Gutted for Ghana. But I have to say, watching Marcel Desailly go on about how much he loves his country and how gutted he is for them makes me feel somewhat nauseous. Salieri Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 The rules need to be changed. You can only represent the country you were born in, end of. And that should apply in every sport, including cricket.
Tevez Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 That was insane. That'll be the match we remember from this WC for years to come. I don't think it will.
MC Prussian Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 The most complete football match I've seen in a very, very long time. This one had it all. The penalty shootout had me on my toes - an absolutely nerve-racking experience, something I've been missing from this year's World Cup so far. Well done, Uruguay. Now surprise me and the Dutch.
ousefox Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Gutted for Ghana. But I have to say, watching Marcel Desailly go on about how much he loves his country and how gutted he is for them makes me feel somewhat nauseous. If it meant so much to him he could have represented them at international level. That's exactly what i was thinking.
martyn Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Great game soured by more disgusting bias from ITV. Suarez will be a hero in Uruguay and rightly so, although not a reflex handball, I really don't think he had time to make a conscious decision. Townsend and Chiles would be soon changing their tune had Rooney "sacrificed himself for the lads".
Jimothy Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 Gutted for Ghana. But I have to say, watching Marcel Desailly go on about how much he loves his country and how gutted he is for them makes me feel somewhat nauseous. If it meant so much to him he could have represented them at international level. Yeah been thinking the same thing. Really starting to piss me off.
Koke Posted 2 July 2010 Posted 2 July 2010 You know, a person can actually love two countries equally. It's not either/or.
Rocket-Ron Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 Gutted for Ghana. But I have to say, watching Marcel Desailly go on about how much he loves his country and how gutted he is for them makes me feel somewhat nauseous. If it meant so much to him he could have represented them at international level. It looks as thoughn the itv team are more gutted about Ghana going out than England
Koke Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 Also, this Ghana = Africa shit campaign ITV got going on is really patronising. If I was Ghanian I would feel extremely annoyed. I know loads of Africans who were cheering on Uruguay, so not every African wanted Ghana to win. Ghana = Ghana...Holland aren't representing Europeans. Argentina aren't representing South Americans either. They doing it for their countries only. I appreciate that most of Africa, and a lot of other neutrals, was hoping Ghana would win, but this fixture was not Uruguay vs Africa, but listening to pundits, commentators and presenters, you would be forgiven for thinking Uruguay was playing against Africa.
Mee Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 Very good game last night, didn't mind who won. Great risk Suarez took, completely took one for the team. Maybe not the most sportsman thing to do but at least it payed off. Will be rooting for them against Holland.
Finnegan Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 You know, a person can actually love two countries equally. It's not either/or. and it just so happened that his second "love" was a world cup winning super team? We're very often on the same page, but not in regards to that. All jokes about Michael Owen aside, I would be absolutely seething if somebody genuinely 100% Welsh moved to some English club as a kid and went on to win the World Cup as England, then a few years into his retirement was commentating on Wales games talking about how much he loved us. With all respect to Michael Owen, as much as we do harp on about him, he was born in England and he's never really considered himself anything other than. It's hardly like Ghana were "fine without him" or didn't need every bit of talent they could get. I do agree with you on this whole "Ghana = Africa" stuff, though.
FoxyPV Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 Patrick Vieira is another one who extolls his love for his country yet chose to play for France. Keane calle him out for it in when they had that scuffle in the tunnel at Arsenal.
The Doctor Posted 3 July 2010 Posted 3 July 2010 so disappointed for ghana but quality match, two spectacular goals, a late penalty and sending off, penalty shootout - that match had everything. best i've seen in the tournament so far.
