SoarMagazine Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Hi all, If you're interested, the link below is to Walshy's final blog in the mini-series of 'My Managers at Leicester City', providing Steve's account of how Peter Taylor succeeded in ending Walshy's time at the club: http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2010/07/09/steve-walsh-blog-my-managers-at-leicester-city-week-seven-peter-taylor/ Next week, Steve will return to the regular series, with his views on Paulo Sousa's appointment as Leicester City manager, along with looking at pre-season and the forthcoming Championship campaign. Many thanks, Soar Magazine.
Jon the Hat Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Walshy is clearly still bitter about it, and I can understand that. Not a lot in their that is wrong, though I think it is difficult to end the career of a club legend, and you can't expect a manager to give jobs to people who they don;t get on with.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Good read. I do find it strange how Peter Taylor and Junior Lewis are never separated.
mikey54 Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 who is? Mrs Taylor and Junior Lewis (or are they the one and same?)
grth2004 Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 interesting about how he put the young players wages up as well as spending money on useless players , explains alot about where all the money went. The bit about akinbiyi passing the ball is hilarious .
Guest NGoloMode Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 I remember reading an ex City player saying Akinbiyi was played because he was so good in training. Guess they lied. Can't remember who it was though.

Guest NGoloMode Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Was that ex-City player Ade Akinbiyi by any chance??? I have a feeling it was Trev Ben but I might be wrong
martyn Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 He does think a lot of himself old Walshy doesn't he. A multi talented guy who provides the "heartbeat" keeping everyone together whilst also being the natural heir to MoN's legacy.
mancunianfox Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Tbf Cottee and Walsh couldn't have done a worse job than Taylor. What we needed then was continuity and not a complete change of direction.
ArnarGunnlaugsson Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Tbf Cottee and Walsh couldn't have done a worse job than Taylor. What we needed then was continuity and not a complete change of direction. Agreed. Cottee for the tactics, Walsh for the team spirit - everyone continuing their roles from the MON reign, would've been more straightforward. With a few signings from players that they knew and respected - it might've ended up like a pub team, but they would've done a job and not lose to Wycombe... and get relegated. All those blogs about the former managers have been good, but this one is epic - I bet he's held back more for his book!
Karljohn Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Think Walshy calls him "tater peeler" doesn't he? which is about all he was good for. The image of Wise, Lewis and Akinbiyi in City shirts still grips my shit to this day. What an absolute willy puller, ruined our club and the board were as much to blame as Taylor for letting him off the leash with the transfer kitty.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Hee hee Walshy is a legend. Still think John Terry is a 'poor man's Steve Walsh - then again, Walshie was technically better than Terry.

In fact, can anyone remember a GOOD Tater Peeler signing?
Ike O'Noclassed Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 If I'd been in a training routine knowing that every bad pass meant another 20 press ups for that arrogant a-hole, I'd have sprayed it around like Ade did, too.
Corky Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 3 of the WORST players ever to grace any pitch we've called home....along with Trevor (Floella) Benjamin. In fact, can anyone remember a GOOD Tater Peeler signing? Gary Rowett had a very good first season, Callum Davidson wasn't too bad and Ian Walker was a good keeper.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 More I hear aout Taylor the more I dislike him. Really did undo MON's great work.

In fact, can anyone remember a GOOD Tater Peeler signing? Don't forget Lee Marshall. I remember him signing Matt "3m for a Leeds reserve" Jones and his comments were along the lines of how he had found his replacement for Neil Lennon This thread has also reminded me of a trip to Blackpool in the league cup, in which we huffed and puffed to a 1-0 win on a Monday night televised game, Lewis played and a city fan ran on the pitch near the end and offered to swap shirts with Junior and play the last couple of minutes, poor old "bambi on ice" didn't know what to do...
Jimmy2Drags Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 Gary Rowett had a very good first season, Callum Davidson wasn't too bad and Ian Walker was a good keeper. I'd only rate one of those 3 as decent. I just assumed that O'Neill signed Ian Walker cos he was quite good.

I am Rod Hull Posted 9 July 2010 Posted 9 July 2010 It winds me up that the board gave MON, little or next to nothing for tranfers, and then gave Taylor £20 odd million to spend on crappy lower division players.......
