haraven Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 Great - we know have a very sharing and talkative chairman AND a just as talkative manager. TBH I don't see the point telling the media such stuff, it is obvious everyone has their price, but especially the Weale case is beyond me - how a manager wants to talk away one of his most prized assets . Yes, Weale also has his faults, but he was one of the Championship's best keepers last season, top 3 definately, and was a major factor in us doing so well along with the defence in general.

Maybe to give him a kick up the arse, he's hardly been convincing in the last to two games.
Wdywd Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 At least Paulo's pretty. It'd be a problem to lose Weale on two counts, one is that obviously he's a good keeper, but also it takes a while for everyone to get used to each other in defence again. Especially as the season starts in a couple of weeks. We already need about 5 players as it is.

The defence looked comfortable with each other last season but on many occasions they didnt seem particularly comfortable with Weale. Weale is a decent keeper but nothing that cannot be replaced quite easily.
ousefox Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 Paulo Sousa says he would consider selling goalkeeper Chris Weale, but only at the right price Sounds like a reply on FM
coale39 Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 TBH Weale is very good but hes not irreplaceable. If West Ham offered 3m....
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 Sounds like a reply on FM I'd have issued a hands off.
MPH Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 I would translate sousa's comments as something like "Well , I need some money. I have my eye on a couple of players and the way things are going I will have to wait until january to spend any invested money.." Is it a coincidence this comes the day after MM says it maybe 2 or 3 weeks for the take over to happen if it happens at all?
haraven Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 MM would of issued a 'willing to listen to any offers'
Bettsj2 Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 If you want to be succesful there comes a point where you have to replace players that are good with players who are excellent. Weale is a good keeper but nothing more. If he was to go and Fulop (or someone of equal standing) was to come in i'd be more than happy. Think back to when we were promoted under Martin O'Neil. Kevin Poole was a perfectly good keeper and well thought of by Leicester fans. The minute we went up, O'Neil replaced him with Kasey Keller. The same you can say about several of our players. They may be fans favourites but at least half of our first team need to be replaced with better players should we wish to get out of this league and survive in the premiership. I think Sousa and Milan recognise that and whilst it's a nice romantic idea of putting a young team together with gems plucked from the lower leagues combined with products of the youth academy, this route can take many many years which is something that Leicester cant afford to do.

That's ok if you've got the money because to do what you suggest normally requires additional funds to add to the transfer fee received as you rarely get better for less, especially with the gap there is between the PL and the CH. There seems little point in replacing Weale with anyone who is not guaranteed to succeed in the PL. At this point in time we don't seem to have a pot to piss in.
andy_croydz Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 He didn't impress me either for the last 3/4 months, and lets face it he was never going to save a penalty in that shoot out. I also see Weale as a hoof it up the field keeper, Paulo wants his keepers to throw the ball out but very few times did he do that last season even when the opportunity was there, but that could be down to Pearson. I'm a young keeper, Sousa should sign me, i'll play for peanuts and I promise to distribute the ball well. However... If I drop quite a lot of clangers... I'm sorry

A fair point, but I'd rather us replace the positions where we have only one player first.

The minute we went up, O'Neil replaced him with Kasey Keller. I'm sure Poole was nearing the end of his career then. Saying that I think he's still playing as the oldest keeper in the football league.

Corky Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 I noticed he was an unused sub today... I think he'll start against Sunderland.
Neil_LCFC Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Weale was excellent last season not sure how anyone can really say otherwise.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Has anyone mentioned how we would Weale, Weale miss him if he went? Come on, we had loads of these puns when he signed!
Narborough_fox Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 I'll be Weale depressed if he leaves, completely different from when he joined when I was cartwealeing with joy!
