Weale to Hammers

I hated Mike Riley after that game lol

Matty was looking at the ball the whole time and ended up clattering someone with his arm, to be honest it was a bad foul but the fact he never looked at the player once before he went up for the header then i dont think it was malicious.

Just because he may not have meant it, doesn't mean he didn't do it and so the punishment is still the same. Referees aren't there to judge intent (except for handball and look how much handball decisions are debated....)

He never made any mistakes in the few games he played in.

I'm surprised I got shot down so much for suggesting Coyne, I know he is quite old now in football terms but he has still got a few years left in him, if we did sell Weale i'd prefer us to get another promising keeper but I just thought i'd throw Coyne's hat into the ring purely because he is a good goalkeeper at Championship level. He got a player of the season award at Grimsby in 2002 and kept 20 clean sheets for Tranmere in League 1 a few seasons ago to earn the best clean sheet record for the season.

But he's not the future, I'd rather we invested in a keeper that could well be around for a long time.

I agree, it would only be a short term fix if Weale did go, i'd prefer us to get a younger keeper that will be here for a while, I just thought getting someone like Coyne might be cheaper for a season or 2 but I don't think Weale cost us that much anyway did he?

Anyway... This should all be irrelevant because I can't see Weale moving tbh.

I agree mate, BTW... I do support refs, I hate it when refs get stick, I play in goal for a team on Saturdays and I hate it when refs get abuse, I never have a go at them even if they make a wrong decision against me. I was young back then though when I disliked Riley for that lol, I was about 15, no excuse I know.

Mike Riley was a shit ref, and I have always disliked him.

Though at the time I thought he got it wrong, looking back if it had of been the other way round we would have been screaming for him to get sent off as he really did clatter him.

From the Merc

Paulo Sousa says he would consider selling goalkeeper Chris Weale, but only at the right price.

West Ham United have reportedly expressed an interest in Weale but City manager Sousa said he had received no approach from the Hammers.

However, he said he would not rule out selling him if the right offer was made, and added that any of his players could go if they expressed a desire to leave.

Striker Steve Howard is another City player who is the subject of speculation linking him with a move to Huddersfield Town, but Sousa said he was an important player within his squad.

"No-one has contacted me about Chris," said Sousa.

1x1.GIF"When that happens, then everyone will get to know. With the right price, we can think about it, why not? The club is bigger than everyone. Everyone can leave and everyone can come, but for now we don't think about it.

"Steve is a player who gives us something different and he has experience," he added.

"Of course we want every player to commit to the club and myself. Anyone, if they want to leave, they can leave. The club is bigger than any individual.

"We need to deal with some players when they are not satisfied or when one player wants to leave the club, we will do that. We need to think about that and create some alternatives.

"It is not specific to Steve, but to everyone. Of course, it is something that happens in the last two weeks before the beginning of the season and it is something that we will deal with.

"He is an important player in the squad but I want to keep only the players who commit with myself and the club."

One player who has demonstrated he wants to stay at City is midfielder Nicky Adams, who rejected a move to Brentford.

He is being tried out as a right back, and Sousa said he had been pleased with Adams's attitude.

"It is different for him," he said. "It is a position where he can have a little bit more space than in midfield. For that, he has a chance. He tries to do his best and he has been making some good progress."

Twat is a bit harsh. This is normal management retoric. He's basically saying that if anyone isn't 100% commited then they can leave. Surely that's what we want as fans? Has Chris Weale expressed an interest in going to a premiership club? If yes, I dont think anyone could blame him. If no then he'll stay.

I don't like some of the muck that Sousa is spouting already. I might be being harsh, but I worry we've got a cowboy in charge.

He didn't impress me either for the last 3/4 months, and lets face it he was never going to save a penalty in that shoot out. I also see Weale as a hoof it up the field keeper, Paulo wants his keepers to throw the ball out but very few times did he do that last season even when the opportunity was there, but that could be down to Pearson.

Because... ?

He's just lacking in certain areas, penalty saving is one of them. The Cardiff free kick and the one man wall sticks in my mind as well. It was a great free kick but the keepers positioning was a disaster considering there was no wall leaving pretty much an open goal. Not to mention his lack of concentration at Derby.

He's not saying anything new, the position we're in at the moment all our players are for sale at the right price, wouldn't describe anything he's said their as worrying.

Spanish side Hercules have made a move for Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop - (The Times)

From BBC Gossip......

If Weale were to go, we may have to move fast for Fulop..... though the likelyhood of this happening (Fulop returning), methinks is non-existant.

I hope he stays - Sorry but Logan for me is a number two at this level.

Weale kept us in so many games last season - people seem to have a short memory dating back only to a penalty shoot out.

Weale is a great reactionary keeper in open play and I rate him at Championship level.

There. I said it.

I seem to be the only person who would be happy to see Logan come through as number 1, seems to be solid almost all the time he plays and against Middlesborough he showed he is up to the standard of football played.

I didnt use to rate Logan when for a while he was first choice under Rob Kelly, thought he was slow and slightly over weight. Until he came on vs Sheff Wed and played vs Boro I kept that view but those games at least convinced me he was at least good enough to be back up. Wouldnt mind seeing him given a chance if Weale went, but would certainly look for a replacement anyway.

Sousas comments on the matter doesn't fill with me with that much confidence.

We all seem split on this issue, but I doubt Paulo would make those comments in the Merc if either a) there was an approach on the cards which was seemingly tempting Chris - and has expressed this to Paulo in training (for example) or b) he hasn't impressed Paulo.

I'd tend to think it would be more like option a, but who could blame him for wanting Premiership football? (even if as a bench warmer) :dunno:
