The 37-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Selhurst Park, with reports suggesting that he is looking to settle in London and get back into the game. Despite not playing a competitive match for two years, Palace are thought to be considering offering the experienced battler a pay-as-you-play deal. The former Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Tottenham star, who has earned more than 70 caps for Holland, could make the switch to the Championship side but Burley warns an agreement is a long way away. Friend of a mate "There is nothing definite about Davids," Burley told the Evening Standard. "This is to do with a friend of a mate who knows Edgar and it was mentioned that he might like to start playing again. "Edgar has a home in London and he's talking about starting to play again. But it hasn't gone much further than that. "There is a long way between wanting to play again after two years of retirement and getting involved in a tough league like the Championship." Simpson has been chased by a number of clubs in the Championship, but a switch to the KC Stadium was always his preferred choice. The likes of Bristol City and Leeds United had shown an interest in the striker, who scored twice in three League Cup appearances during his time at Arsenal. He also undertook loan spells at Millwall, West Brom and Queens Park Rangers, and has now secured a permanent move away from Emirates Stadium. The 21-year-old becomes Tigers manager Nigel Pearson's fourth signing following the deals for Nolberto Solano, James Harper and Robert Koren. Simpson is expected to go straight into Pearson's squad for Saturday's Championship encounter at home to Watford. We need to sign someone SOON!!!!

The 37-year old trained with his new team-mates on Friday morning and will be at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon for the match against Ipswich Town. Speaking to the official website moments after terms were agreed Davids explained his delight at agreeing a deal with the club. "It is an exciting time for the football club, and it is an exciting time for me. I just want to enjoy football and show the best I can do." Manager George Burley explained to the official site how the move came about: "We spoke to Edgar and had a meeting with him earlier in the week. The boy felt enthusiasm and he has been training with Ajax but now its good to see us agree terms with him." At least we've played and got them out of the way, the last thing we wanted was to be destroyed by a man we so very nearly signed one year ago.
