bald reynard Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Can any plucky travellers to South London post some player ratings please, for poor souls 'stuck in the north' ?!
Guest NGoloMode Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale - 6 Berner - 7 Hobbs - 5 Morrison - 4 Nielson - 6 N'Guessan - 5 Very clumsy on the ball King - 8 Oakley - 5 Would have been higher if he made a tackle before their 3rd goal to let the winger put the cross in Dyer - 8 Always looked dangerous with the ball cutting inside getting shots at goal Campbell - 7 Fryatt - 4 Looked lost to me Subs Wellens - 6 Howard - 8 Best player for me today. Loved his pass to set up DJ
KFS Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale-7- made some good decisions but slipped up with the second goal. Neilson-5- better than a normal 3 but still very slow and not up to standard. Morrison-6- not usual Morrison, didn't win headers and just looked a bit lost. Hobbs-7- usual Hobbs but again looked slightly lost at times. Berner-8- usual Berner, our best defender today, brilliant! Oakley-5- shite. The main reason our quick counter didn't function, held the ball too much and lost the ball frequently. D N'G- 6- looked okay running the wing but don't know how he'll figure in pass and move. Wellens-6- good passer of the ball but he's getting ever more ritaliant to challenges and could see him being our most booked. Dyer-8 and my MOTM- very quick and tricky, enough said. Kingy-8- very good getting into space and a good goal. Fryatt-6- did okay but he lost the ball far too often. Campbell-8- very tricky player to deal with, kept the ball at his feet very well and a good linkup with Howard. Howard-7/8- wasn't used in typical fashion but coped very well. His pass to Dj for the goal was unexpected, I thought he'd over hit it but he did well. Overall a good game to watch, first half to be forgotten but the second was great.
Guest ttfn Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale 6 - Not a lot he could do about any of the goals. Neilson 7.5 - Surprisingly good going forward. Beautiful cross for King's goal. Hobbs 6 - Looked confident on the ball, inconsistent defensively. Morrison 4 - His worst performance for City. At fault for at least one of the goals. Berner 6 - Ok. N'Guessan 6 - Cracking ball in wasted by Fryatt in the first half, otherwise fairly anonymous. King 7.5 - Started well, disappeared in that mad 20 minutes in the first half, then sprang to life in the 4-5-1. Oakley 6 - Better than last year, still not much good. Dyer 8.5 - Best player on the pitch. So unlucky not to score on more than one occasion. Campbell 6.5 -Absolutely anonymous in the first half. Took up a good position for his goal. Fryatt 5.5 - Felt a bit sorry for him with that first half miss, it was fizzed into him at real pace but he's got to be scoring those. Was actually trying to make stuff happen in the first half but things just didn't go for him. Didn't look 100% fit. subs: Wellens 5.5 - Provided some bite but too frequently wasted possession. Howard 7.5 - Gave us a massive boost. All in all, we were the better side other than for a farcical 20 minutes in the first half. Our best football was the direct stuff we got used to seeing last season. Most of the players aren't quite technically good enough to do what Sousa wants, and he needs to realise that.
Cat Burger Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale - 5 - Didn't actually have much to do except pick the ball out, should've done better. Kicking and rushing out were good today. Berner - 7 - Typical Bruno display, good timing and passing. Hobbs - 6 - Not dominant at all today. Alan Lee gave both CBs huge problems. More at fault for this first goal than Morro. Distribution was generally good. Morrison - 5 - Not up to centre half yet on this display. Didn't look comfortable winning the ball in the air against their forwards Nielson - 6 - Limited, often caught napping but was quite steady today. Ball in was delicious but it was a rare glimpse of quality. N'Guessan - 5 - Tried quite hard but wasn't effective. Their defenders pushed him out wide and doubled up on him so he had no room to get past. Can't cut inside. King - 7 - Good header. More dynamic performance than we are used to. Kept the ball well. Oakley - 6 - I thought he had a solid game. Kept the ball and collected well from the defence but had zero impact going forward Dyer - 8 - Saw a lot of the ball and had the beating of both the left backs he came up against, particulary Bennett. Was unlucky with a solo run and a cracking right foot ( )drive that hit the bar. Seemed to push each opponent off balance each time he cut inside. Good tekkers. Campbell - 7 - Clinical finish, good running, quick and crisp passing, still more to come from him when he gets to know his team mates again. Fryatt - 4 - Took 3 touches too many each time he got it. Poor. Subs Wellens - 6 - Tried a few Hollywood balls and turns, perhaps that is why he didn't start, might not be a Sousa player but did more probing than Oakley did in the whole game. Howard - 7 - Unlucky to be picked on by the ref (as usual) changed the tempo of the game with his passing (another pleasant surprise) and communication. Went mad when we pulled the second back.
Anish Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale - 6 - should've saved the second goal Berner - 7 - can't fault him today Morrison - 5 - he and Hobbs were all over the place in the first half, terrible defending which led to the 1st and 3rd goals Hobbs - 6.5 - better than Morrison but not his best performance Neilson - 6 - extra marks for the last ditch tackle near the end and the excellent cross for King's goal, otherwise he was his usual self Oakley - 5 - I wish we'd seen the last of him last season. Offers nothing going forward or defensively, too slow. In the first half you could drive a bus through our non-existant midfield. N'Guessan - 6 - not bad in the air, not great on the deck. Great run and cross for Fryatt's chance, but that was about it. King - 7 - Great header for the goal. Linked up play nicely. Dyer - 8.5* - best player on the pitch. Hit the post twice and caused havoc all game long. Shame he got tired near the end. Fryatt - 5 - poor. Nothing came off for him and he looked slow on and off the ball. I think he's missing Pearson's fitness regime because he was well off it. DJ - 7 - he played well. Unlucky with the header which hit the bar (even though it wouldn't have counted), his pace terrorised the Palace defence and was the reason he scored his goal. More of the same. Subs Wellens - 6 - the one thing I remember was his ridiculous back-flick which didn't come off. Otherwise a couple of nice passes but nothing noteworthy. Howard - 7 - great ball to set up DJ. His strength and aerial threat gave us another dimension which we badly needed. Still not the answer though.
Cat Burger Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 I think he's missing Pearson's fitness regime because he was well off it. You can really tell with a few of the players that they are struggling to adapt. I know people have moaned about the people moaning about the fitness on the moan in (moan), but being there it was actually really noticeable, especially with off the ball movement. Match sharpness might take a while to come back, and fair enough, but movement? It was the one concern for me because the defence will sort themselves out.
Wymsey Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 How did anyone who went to game think about the fellow away fans rating?
Ziggy1990 Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 ....Can see a pattern emerging here, seems like Oakley is more of a hinderence then a help
moseeds Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale - 6 - Played well considering the new defensive setup. Will be used as a sweeper more as the season progresses. Very interesting to see how he adapts. Second goal skidded past him on another day would have been a straightforward save. Berner - 7 - Played well, far more attacking it seemed. Morrison - 5 - Hobbs and Morrison will need to do some more training pitch tactical awareness exercises! Comedy goal for Palace's third goal. Hoping the only way is up! Hobbs - 5 - As per Morrison will need better understanding of positioning and responsibilities. Will improve as season progresses naturally. Neilson - 6 - Bone crunching tackle at the end. Did try and attack his wing with Dyer more often which was producing results. Oakley - 5 - Struggling to find his place and role in this new look side. N'Guessan - 6 - Some poor touches, again will need to work on his technical skills if he is to succeed. King - 8 - One man midfield. I believe this style of play will improve King's game. Unfortunately he will be bought by a Premiership team before the end of this season. Dyer - 9 - Entertainment. Fryatt - 6 - Got some chances. Needs time to settle into new style and new strike partner. Again this style suits Fryatt. DJ - 7 - Also very entertaining. Subs Wellens - 5 - Not on for long enough to get into this fast moving game. Howard - 8 - Looked a bit bigger than last season and a lot slower too. Still caused a stir after coming on. Leicester fans - 10 Palace fans - 10 Palace announcer guy - 10. That player name thing they do after the goal made me laugh. Stewards - 10 - Don't recall anyone being told to sit down even though everyone was standing for 90 mins. Paulo's style - 12 - Very chic, liked the casual but smart look. More Covent Garden than Crystal Palace.
eastendfox Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale 5.5 - Surprised the 2nd goal beat him, not particularly commanding Neilson 6 - Ok, great cross for our first goal Morrison 4 - Horrendous first, better 2nd, wasn't saying much Hobbs - 5.5 - Think he misses having an experienced centre half alongside, positionally all over the place, but won his tackles Berner 6 - Not his best game, but ok N'Guessan 4 - Did nothing Oakley 5 - Not good, but to be fair our tactics left him frequently overrun King 8 - Constantly looking for the late runs into the box, a deserved goal, looked a threat all day Dyer 7 - Some great runs, unlucky to hit the post twice Fryatt 5 - Looked unfit Campbell 6 - Poor until N'Guessan and Fryatt went off, then suddenly came to life. Howard 6 - Usual Stevie, great cross for Campbell's goal Wellens 5 - Fouled them, cheated his way to a few free kicks, didn't do much with the ball

If the problem is fitness, why did we get better and better as the game went on? Off the ball movement isn't just about being fit, it's also about having vision and communication. There were plenty of times last season when we seemed to become static when we had the ball. First half today we suffered from similar bad habits, but second half DJ in particular showed a much more positive approach to going to get the ball and it made a difference. If that is something Sousa works on, and I expect it will be, we'll be OK.

I think they also tired from the front, as our defence and midfield kept the ball really well in our half. The point I'm making is about the speed and intensity of the players, it wasn't there and they weren't 'raring to go' as I would have expected. As we pulled deserved goals back, they did push hard for the equaliser..It doesn't meant they're not more fucked than they would be normally after a game, I suppose we can't know how they will recover. All I'm saying is it's noticeable. Maybe they were purposely holding conserving energy.. If you don't agree that's fine, I think you make a valid point about everything being ok in the future, I agree
SamL Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale 6 Nielsen 7 Hobbs 6 Morrison 5 Berner 7 N'Guessan 4 King 6 Oakley 6 Dyer 8 Campbell 7 Fryatt 5 Subs: Wellens 6 Howard 7
Corky Posted 7 August 2010 Posted 7 August 2010 Weale- 6 (No chance with the first goal, should've done better for the second and couldn't do a lot about the third) Neilson- 6 (Got forward well, linking with Dyer, superb assist and made a crucial tackle in the second half) Morrison- 5 (Not his best game. Struggled against the Palace attack) Hobbs- 6 Berner- 6 (Very solid) N'Guessan- 4 (Never really in the game) Oakley- 5.5 King- 6 (Gets an extra mark for the goal) Dyer- 7.5 (Our best player, cut inside well and was very unlucky not to score on two occasions) Fryatt- 4 (No threat at all, chose to hold on to the ball instead of passing) Campbell- 6 (Good goal, worked hard) Wellens- 5 Howard- 7 (Lifted the side when he came on. Lovely pass for the second goal)
milan_foxes Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 JUST GOT IN Weale - 6 - I think he could of done alot better for both the second and third goal. Neilson - 5.5 - He's just a joke TBH. He can't pass a ball straight. I gave 1/2 mark more because of the tackle in 2nd half! Hobbs - 6.5 - Not up to his best but still ruled everything. Morrison - 6 - Looked shakey all the way through. Berner - 6.5 - Good at getting forward, could do with earlier crosses though. N'Guessan - 4 - Useless, did **** all. Oakley - 7.5 - Got stuck in and made some good passes out to Dyer. King - 6.5 - Wasn't up to full potential, good goal though. Dyer - 9 - Looked promising everytime with the ball, should of scored at least once though. DJ - 8.5 - Looked like he wanted it all the time, very promising. Fryatt - 5 - Thought he was Ronaldo, wouldn't pass the ball at all. Looked unfit as well. SUBS; Howard - 9 - Changed the game for me, won everything & commited to all. Wellens - 6 - Nothing has changed from last season, he tries to be Gerrard and Messi... at the same time!

He also gave us all inside knowledge on the Dutch god signing... And you give him a crap rating??? I wasn't at the game, but you sound like your 12 Years old.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 He also gave us all inside knowledge on the Dutch god signing... What's this?
phillthefox Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 Howard - 9 Stand alone best player DJ - 7 good finish looked up for it
C-man Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 Weale 5 Nielsen 6 Hobbs 5 Morrison 4 Berner 6 N'Guessan 5 King 7 Oakley 6.5 Dyer 8 Campbell 6 Fryatt 4 Subs: Wellens 5 Howard 7.5
Collymore Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 What's this? He let it slip that lamey had signed in his post match interview with stringer
AaronH Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 Don't understand why people are giving oakley shit ratings, he looked like a completley diffrent player held the ball up well, got stuck in and won some good tackles
andy_croydz Posted 8 August 2010 Posted 8 August 2010 Weale - 6 - should've saved the second goal You thought that too? Craig said that to me but I disagreed with him I think our angle of the shot wasn't the best. Ambrose struck it with the outside of the boot and it probably started away from Weale, curled in towards goal and ended up hitting the post and going in. I'm defending Wealey on this one, he wasn't to blame in my opinion
