Ashley Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Like Bert posted the sum that Walkers payed wasn't a lot only six figures sum, I don't want the Walkers to change its name however if it does change its name I hope its not something stupid like newcastle sportsdirect.com@St James Park or what ever it is
Alexikokopops Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 The article states that "the Thai group's business links with the football club started three years ago with a shirt sponsorship deal", and that "King Power ... signed a deal to purchase 100 per cent of the club", which are both wrong. Given that Walkers have a deal running for a good few years, I'm calling bullshit.
Collier Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 King Power Stadium sounds brilliant and imposing.
Dr The Singh Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 King Power Stadium sounds brilliant and imposing. Phoo King Power sounds more imposiong though!!
Ozwin Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 It'll take years for people to start calling it something else.
The Padster Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I prefer Raw Dykes Stadium, a good old fashioned name based on it's actual location. As much as I'd like the stadium to be renamed to something more historical/traditional/ associated with LCFC, I don't think Raw Dykes Stadium is the one to go for!
m00nie Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 well seems they got upton steel to allow them to release the branding rights of the tunnel area so things may be heading that way
Madrid_Fox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 At least its not the King Power Bowl. That would have been a disaster. They wont name it, for example, King Power Filbert Way Stadium because who can remember the BT Cellnet Riverside Stadium or the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium.
Fosse Boy Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Won't change anything for me. It's Filbert Way at the moment and shall remain that way until they give it a proper name.
davieG Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Won't change anything for me. It's Filbert Way at the moment and shall remain that way until they give it a proper name. That's a made up name though.
evs_the_fox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I've never understood why any new ground needs the word 'stadium' in the name anyway... it sounds crap. Old Trafford, Anfield, St. James Park, Highbury, White Hart Lane, FILBERT STREET, St. Andrews. etc etc etc all sound loads better and don't need 'The' before and 'Stadium' after - we get what it is. Filbert Way works now. For a historical effort then I think Freemans Wharf sounds better then anything with Raw Dykes in it..!!

Agree about the 'the' and 'stadium' but you can't beat a bit of Raw Dykes, Freeman's Wharf is ok or you could call it Boulevard after Eastern Boulevard.

That's what it was called during construction, that's what it should be called now. No ifs, no buts.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I also would prefer a traditional name for the stadium. The new one sounds better than the current one though.

foxoffderby Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Im ok with the King Power staduim, don't like Raw Dykes at all sound far too gay, Filbert Way is the best though as stated it sounds like a proper staduim name like White Hart Lane. Filbert, also is of course the name of our previous location and therefore easily known to away fans as being connected to the City of Leicester.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 King Power Stadium beats Walkers Stadium for me
demon_dog Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Freeman's Wharf would be a good choice. Tut, tut, should know better. We cannot have freemen or freeman, it has to be freeperson stadium. We can't upset the womenfolk you know.

Might be wrong (probably am), but wasn't Filbert Street's official name City Stadium?
unreachable Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Might be wrong (probably am), but wasn't Filbert Street's official name City Stadium? You are quite correct. Full Address: City Stadium, Filbert Street, Leicester LE2 7FL
Spiritwalker Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I won't be sad to hear the end of The Walkers Stadium. Raw Dykes Road for me, if not then Freemens Wharf. As others have pointed out Filbert Way is a made up name. This all irrelevant however because it looks like we are going to be stuck with a brand name for the forseeable.
The Padster Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Tut, tut, should know better. We cannot have freemen or freeman, it has to be freeperson stadium. We can't upset the womenfolk you know. Turns out you can! Freebird Although some men have quit over it. Quiting Quiting 2 Freemens Wharf is a great name to use as Spudulike said that's what the area used to be called when the power station was there beforehand although the station was called Freemens Meadow so I'm good with either of these two names.
stripeyfox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I always change Walkers Stadium in Football Manager to Freemens Wharf. Sounds loads better. Doubt it will ever happen though - in fact Walkers is probably as good as it will get, i'm sure there a million crapper names it could be sponsored by.
