Guest Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Only people to come out with any credit from today IMHO were Wellens, Hobbs and the new guy Moussa looked like he could be quite handy. Oakley wasn't too bad actually either. The End
MPH Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 This for me is perhaps the problem...what the hell is he talking about half of the time! When I heard him on the phone in I didn't understand half of what he was saying, and this seems to follow that theme. Can the players understand him? That reads like a poor google translation....
Fosse Boy Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Can't claim to be enthralled. As everyone else had said Wellens was the stand out with N'Guessan being noticeably poor. Everyone else was a bit rubbish. Probably should have stayed in the cricket club.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Is the problem simply that the midfield and strikers are not singing from the same song sheet? I think a box to box midfielder would be a nice acquistion. A Robbie Savage type of midfielder who closes players down, gets in their face, wins the ball back and gets forward when it matters. A new goalkeeper is also on my wishlist. Problem is, all the momentum that Pearson created has been wiped away and you're now left with a lot of average players who can't continue to play above themselves week in week out. Probably mid table by the end of the season

Probably mid table by the end of the season What momentum? Yes Pearson gave us some self-respect back but we never scored anywhere near enough goals last season to really justify winning promotion and our play-offs performance perfectly summed up his limited and ever cautious approach to achieving sucess. Hell, we did nothing to attack the tie against Cardiff in the home leg, and there were times at places like Barnsley and S****horpe where we barely mustered a shot, nor ever set ourselves up to do so. Pearson might have had a decent points winning record but I don't believe he developed our style of play one bit. With very few exceptions Pearson settled for nothing more than functional football. And our momentum halted when failed even to reach the plays-offs final...in other words it halted under Pearson's watch,

And our momentum halted when failed even to reach the plays-offs final...in other words it halted under Pearson's watch, Thracian, you cannot honestly post this and believe it. We reached the play-offs in fifth place. We were never going to finish in the top 2, as Newcastle and West Brom were streaks ahead of us and every other team in the league. So out of the rest of the league, only Forest and Cardiff finished above us, who player for player were better than us. If you are suggesting that Pearson's progress ended when we failed to reach the play-off final, you're right, because it was the end of the season so there was no progress to be had before the start of the new season (which Pearson couldn't start because he was pushed out). So the construction of your argument is possibly the most ridiculous I've heard. If your gripe is with the style of play, then that is a different argument to the momentum of the club. The style of our play last season was in patches very good. I can think of us against Coventry last season at home where we played some very good football (albeit for the final scoreline) or QPR away where we also played well. Yes there were games where we played some ugly football, but it worked.
Aumski Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Weale went off far to easy, as soon as he picks up a knock he goes off. It didn't look bad. As for the goals, no chance for number one, Logan looked like he was flapping and it was a Graham Alexander penalty! Wellens and Hobbs were our best players. All Burnley do is play long football. I hate it. you do know alexander has only missed like 1 or 2 peno's in his career or something.
Fosse Boy Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Weale went off far to easy, as soon as he picks up a knock he goes off. It didn't look bad. Only just clocked this post. Moronic is an understatement.
cambridgefox Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 I love Leicester and supporting a team like them has many ups and downs as we all know, yes it is early days, but ive felt really good every sat night/sunday morn for 2 seasons(apart from play off) Yest that shit feeling came back again,i hope you all feel the same.its not just the getting beaten feeling.its getting ripped apart thats irking me.this so called 10mill transfer kitty,is not helping either as im thinking we could be going somewhere!the players should be playing to keep there place.is this 10 mill playing on the teams minds and having the adverse effect,or am i just talking crap in a premature state of depression!
Mee Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 It was a little dismal yesterday, but i think we will have to seriously assess the situation around Christmas. Whoever is saying Sousa out (and meaning it) is idiotic. Yesterday - yes, he got it all wrong, but he can learn from his mistakes. Also, when Moussa came on, he looked like he would run at the opposition, which is good. And i couldn't really understand the Neilson for Lamay change. Was just a like for like, the only difference was Lamay is quicker. If we can grab a win on Saturday, then the lads heads will be up, then hopefully go on and play well from there.
Karljohn Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Problem is, all the momentum that Pearson created has been wiped away and you're now left with a lot of average players who can't continue to play above themselves week in week out. Probably mid table by the end of the season Agreed, there was momentum, and that took us to 5th place and a penalty kick from Wembley, its inevitable that over 46 games some setbacks occur. I said the same to my missus on the way home, we are asking Leicester footballers to play like Arsenal, to have premiership fitness and to play pretty football and get out of this league. Those same Leicester footballers were moulded together by a manager who had them playing to their strengths, so what now? does Sousa do a job on the team like tater peeler did with MON's boys? Pearson was labelled stubborn but Sousa seemed stubborn too yesterday, needing 3 goals against to finally throw a lad on who looked like scoring in Moussa, it was almost as if he needed to be 3 down to finally realise this isn't working out today, my plan isn't working. Its ok to say there are 43 games left but look down the fixture list and already the home games coming up look very difficult, QPR, Cardiff, Reading. The majority of us moaned and groaned over Oakley, Howard and Neilson last year, and we wouldn't p1ss on DJ if he was on fire, all of a sudden they seem to be the first names on team sheet under Sousa....?
Asha Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 I'm sure it has already been said, but full credit to Andre Bikey. Absolutely nothing was getting past him yesterday.

That you say you didnt score enough goals, or justify winning promotion shows just how important 'momentum' rather than individual talent was for you last season
marbelladave Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Morning all, bloody long day yesterday, well over 200 miles each way. there was no way I was going to post last night so hear are my thoughts on the game. First half was quite interesting, not very exiting though. City seemed reasonably content to play on the break but conceding that much possession invariably leeds to pressure, lots of it. What possession we did have was squandered, poor passing under pressure and far too many long balls chipped forward, when we did get a passing movement going we looked decent and made a few chances. Straight from the kickoff DN'G got clear and really could, probably should have scored, several other decent chances, most notably one for DJ, as well but none taken. The big Burnley center backs are very big and powerful but as the half went on we put more and more passes in the air, surprisingly it didn't work. Burnley pressured forward but were not that incisive or creative, towards the end of the half City were doing little more than holding out, but saying that the goal was rarely under real threat, Iwelumo's powerful strike was rightly cancelled out for pushing. Bikey casually clattered Weale who damaged his shoulder and had to be replaced by Logan. The goal, when it came, was out of the blue and almost farcical, a Wallace shot from something like 40 yards nicking off Moreno wrong footed Logan (I'm being kind) and crept in. Logan looked crestfallen and before anything else could happen it was half time, Burnley had more possession but really did not deserve to be in front, City creating two good chances, better than anything Burnley managed. I didn't think we were all that bad first half, certainly in defence we were holding Burnley fine, they had plenty of possession and got forward a lot but created nothing in the way of clear cut chances. On the break a lot of our moves broke down due to poor passing and the chipped ball forward became the 'out ball', complete waste of time. Despite that City created the 2 best chances of the half with DN'G and then DJ failing to hit the target from decent opportunities. Had one or both of those gone in I could see City pulling off a 'smash and grab' even better than the one at Blackpool last season. I was expecting us to come out after the break fired up and get after Burnley but the opposite appeared to be the case, Burnley got after us big time, Berner was put under pressure and looked well off the pace, he was slow and ponderous and Burnley got considerable joy down that flank. Iwelumo took it upon himself to take on Moreno, a serious mismatch and this led directly to the second goal when neither Moreno nor Hobbs could stay with the big the man, Berner could not cover and it was 2-0. We showed very little fight either at the back or in midfield, Berner I have already mentioned, Oakley lacked bite and was easily bypassed the calm presence, still noticable in the first half dissipated, King looked tired and Wellens was combative but still largely ineffective. No constructive play in midfield led to poor balls being played forward giving our forward players little chance, DN'G and DJ tried hard on occasion but had no support and no good ball, when they did get the ball they were so deep that they had virtually no chance of threatening the goal, Howard was isolated and totally ineffective, all in all, not good. We needed something to make a difference, but were virtually forced into making a 'like for like' substitution with Neilson visibly tiring, so we we had only one substitution left. Burnley poured forward as City's heads went down, the penalty I thought was soft, probably a foul but not much of one, poor positioning from Lamey led to a hopeless tackle, an experienced defender should know better. Sousa decided not to risk a still recovering Gallagher so it was down to new boy Moussa, who was given all of 10 minutes but with Dyer, Fryatt, Gallagher all unfit (allegedly) what other choice did Sousa have? One final thought, given that this was never going to be an easy game, why did we appear to have no gameplan to counter Burnley's obvious threats, Moreno was left to mark Iwelumo, Howard left unsupported against Bikey and Carlisle, DJ played on the right where he barely had a clue and most importantly of all, where was the fight? After halftime we came out with our heads down and were never really competitive, what was that all about?
marbelladave Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 I'm sure it has already been said, but full credit to Andre Bikey. Absolutely nothing was getting past him yesterday. Absolutely, a powerful defender on top of his game... Makes me wonder why we only tried to get after him with Howard, largely unsupported and with the ball in the air, why play him at his own game? We breached their defence with pace from DN'G and DJ early on but made no real effort to repeat the moves. No hint of a game plan from Sousa, certainly nothing to counter the obvious strengths of Burnley, that I thought was worrying...
Fox92 Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 How do you know how bad the injury was? He was doing the best for the team by going off because having an injured shoulder is obviously going to effect the risks he'll make to dive to the ball. And even if it didn't look bad, doesn't mean that it isn't bad; but then again, we all know you dislike Weale so I'm not surprised you're whining about him being injured. What an idiotic thing to say. Do you remember QPR away last season when he played on with that head injury? How on earth do you know the extent of his pain/discomfort? I cannot remember QPR, but I remember when Weale picked up an injury at Sheffield Wednesday and went off quickly. It was just the same yesterday, he picked up a little knock and he'll be back on Tuesday/Saturday depending on what team we put out. Chris Kirkland played on with a dislocated finger against Arsenal last season, and then had to have it put back in place. It looked as if Weale picked up a little knock, good save while doing it though. Now, if it is worse, I will take it back. you do know alexander has only missed like 1 or 2 peno's in his career or something. Yes, that's why I put it. I meant 'and a Alexander penalty' like there was no chance because we all know he puts his foot through them and scores. ______________ I think we need two full backs with pace. Nielson doesn't carry the ball when he should and although Berner is steady, he looks off of the pace. Also, I'd go for a new goalkeeper. The defence don't seem to know Logan that well and his positioning and sense is a bit poor. Stevie Howard is too slow now and was in Bikey's pocket all game. We also missed Dyer. N'Guessan is one of the worst players I have ever seen and Wellens was very, very good again. I'd like to see Moreno in defensive midfeld, I know he's covering at the minute though. Passing was fantastic though, compared to Burnley's kick and run long ball, and we created chances yet again which we didn't take. We should have been 1 or maybe 2 goals up before the deflected goal which turned the game.
somebum Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Terrible result, and I know it's a bit of a cliche', but Martin O'Neill started very badly and a lot of fans had egg tossed on their faces by calling for his head so soon. That being said O'Neill took over a poor squad in retrospect and turned it around in pretty quick time, but this Sousa guy seems to be digging up the foundations that Pearson laid. Fair enough, he's trying to impliment his own style of play but, I don't know, this smacks a little of Peter Taylor. I hope I am wrong.
somebum Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Brian Clough -- George Best -- Dennis Bergkamp -- Steven Gerrard -- Jack Hobbs Oh dear well it started off well and tailed away badly towards the end. That Scouse gobshite Gerrard isn't fit to lace their boots!
Tilley Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Yesterday was the first time I have watched us since Sousa took over from Pearson and we've gone downhill.
Aumski Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Yesterday was the first time I have watched us since Sousa took over from Pearson and we've gone downhill. we played very well agianst 'boro and where unlucky to draw. it's away from home that i'm a bit iffy about, where still unbeaten at home, so hopefully its still fortress walkers... or should i now say king power? and fox92 oh right my bad, i thought you ment he takes s*** penos.
Head Honcho Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Not too bothered about today. If DJ hits his scoring form and DNG gets some confidence in his ability, we'll be fine. DJ should've scored at least 1 by all accounts and Dany at least 1, probably 2. If you look at the teams around us, we've got Shef U, Boro, Trees and Reading, all teams I expect to be up there WITH US, challenging at the end of the season for the playoff places. I await an endless stream of ****** saying 'Sousa out'... Much easier to say when you thought the appointment was a bad one to start with so fvck it Sousa out..............he's rubbish! One half decent season at Swansea does in no way qualify you as a good manager. The guy has absolutely no pedigree to manage at this level and Milan has dropped a bollock with this one.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Yesterday was the first time I have watched us since Sousa took over from Pearson and we've gone downhill. State the fackin obvious. You went on our worst performance for ages.
easilee Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Sousa's football management handbook found.<_< link
Head Honcho Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Problem over......blades are bottom now... Yeh come on :scarf: Sousa in.........
