Thracian Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 we played very well agianst 'boro and where unlucky to draw. it's away from home that i'm a bit iffy about, where still unbeaten at home, so hopefully its still fortress walkers... or should i now say king power? and fox92 oh right my bad, i thought you ment he takes s*** penos. q I've seen the two sides of Soussa style and I hope he doesn't believe that the boring continental warm weather pass and pass again style will work in England cos he's got no chance. Pass and move, yes, and provenly so, but always with competently aggressive, in-your-face industrious fotballers who don't mind scrapping first to win possession. Cos in case Soussa doesn't realise it English football teams will close you down quickly and relentlessly. The Butlin's mentality is a disaster waiting to happen and that's what we looked like yesterday - a bunch of sodding redcoats, apart from the colour of our shirts. And all passing football without attitude and end product will get you is relegation. Forest in Ian Woan's day provided a classic example of that, but by no means the only one. Even the great footballing sides of the 60s and 70s had mean bastards in the middle of them - like Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter, Dave Mackay, Roy Keane and Tommy Smith. We had fairies, apart from Wellens.
Karljohn Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Problem over......blades are bottom now... We're not bottom, we're not bottom, we're not bottom anymore
Webbo Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Terrible result, and I know it's a bit of a cliche', but Martin O'Neill started very badly and a lot of fans had egg tossed on their faces by calling for his head so soon. That being said O'Neill took over a poor squad in retrospect and turned it around in pretty quick time, but this Sousa guy seems to be digging up the foundations that Pearson laid. Fair enough, he's trying to impliment his own style of play but, I don't know, this smacks a little of Peter Taylor. I hope I am wrong. Not true.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 By the way, the atmosphere was decent yesterday.
Bugg Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 By the way, the atmosphere was decent yesterday. On the right side it wasn't, was next to a load of people who didn't want to contribute to the atmosphere yet would call Sousa a "stupid foreigner" and that he was "bringing on too many immigrants"
Fosse Boy Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 By the way, the atmosphere was decent yesterday. You're joking, right? I've seen Subbuteo games where the fans were louder.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 You're joking, right? I've seen Subbuteo games where the fans were louder. Wasn't bad near us mate.
Fosse Boy Posted 22 August 2010 Posted 22 August 2010 Wasn't bad near us mate. Nothing on Palace. That should have set the standard for our away ends this season. Granted the circumstances were different but still. Even at level pegging yesterday the atmosphere from both home and away ends was dire.
carterfox90 Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 hope this was a blip as it sounded like they played & passed as bad as what england did- time to judge properly will be after 10 games it is worrying though

James. Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 I vow not to venture to Turf Moor again every time I've been the performance has been absolutely shite. As for today it had defeat written all over it before the warm up started, the players looked out of sorts mentally heads were down shoulders slumped as they enter the pitch and as for Bruno's warm up session with the starting line up what a half hearted performance, a lack lustre demo from him. With the exercises most of them did it once or twice and gave up. At one point having got them gathered round to do some floor exercise two of the players were stood at the back in deep conversation and completely oblivious to what he was attempting to do - why didn't he give them a bollocking, it looked like he cared even less than them. Something definitely seems to have disturb them and upset the team spirit and moral. There's trouble at the mill, mark my words. Of all the posts I've read this one troubles me the most.
The Doctor Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 I was talking about the play-offs really. There's no way we'll be in the top two. Sunderland 06/07? lost their opening couple of games, in the relegation zone at the start of september, won the league.
James. Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 Sunderland 06/07? lost their opening couple of games, in the relegation zone at the start of september, won the league. These comparisons really annoy me. We are not Sunderland, it's not 06/07, Roy Keane isn't going to come in and manage us. Completely pointless to compare the two situations.

Completely pointless to compare the two situations. not really. All it shows is that it is possible to get off to a start like we have and still end up fighting it out at the top for promotion ditto swansea last season.

Well of course it's possible we've only played 3 games!!! You don't need to historic evidence to know that do you... I could find a shitload more examples of teams that started badly and finished badly, but again, that would be pointless.

Completely pointless to compare the two situations. I was going to say the same. "Mon lost his first few games of his tenure" "Alex Ferguson nearly got the sack when he started at Man Utd: "Swansea started off slowly" It reeks of desperation.

Corky Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 Sunderland 06/07? lost their opening couple of games, in the relegation zone at the start of september, won the league. I know they did, but there are better sides than us in this division right now who look a stronger force. If we get in the top two Sousa will have done a remarkable job.

swlc95 Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 Anyone know what the away attendance was for this?
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 These comparisons really annoy me. We are not Sunderland, it's not 06/07, Roy Keane isn't going to come in and manage us. Completely pointless to compare the two situations. It irrtates me as for every Sunderland there about 40 stories of clubs being bottom in September, and come May guess what happened, they went down
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 Brian Clough -- George Best -- Dennis Bergkamp -- Steven Gerrard -- Jack Hobbs Oh dear well it started off well and tailed away badly towards the end. That Scouse gobshite Gerrard isn't fit to lace their boots! Opinion and favourite footballer. Think you are being a bit harsh on Hobbs though. and fox92 oh right my bad, i thought you ment he takes s*** penos. Its ok
Babylon Posted 23 August 2010 Posted 23 August 2010 Something definitely seems to have disturb them and upset the team spirit and moral. There's trouble at the mill, mark my words. I thought the same against Boro, Sousa was trying to talk to certain players on several occasions and got completely blanked. I'm not talking about while the game was in player either, the ball went out of play near the bench one time, Berner ran over to get the ball and Sousa tried to stop him and speak, he just ran straight past him to get the ball and did the same on the way back. I'd imagine going from a Sgt Major in Pearson where everything ran professionally and like clock work, to Sousa's style could be a shock to the system, but the respect doesn't seem to be there... yet I dunno maybe I'm reading to much into it.

Agreed!! Too early to tell, Burnley are a tough outfit and have a great home record, I just think Burnley were the more confident and aggresive! If we went in at half time at 0-0, it might have been a different story but going down 1-0 seemed to knock the belief out of em!!
