Madrid_Fox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Is the problem simply that the midfield and strikers are not singing from the same song sheet? I think a box to box midfielder would be a nice acquistion. A Robbie Savage type of midfielder who closes players down, gets in their face, wins the ball back and gets forward when it matters. A new goalkeeper is also on my wishlist.
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 I wasn't really expecting us to get anything out of the game today as I believe that Burnley are a good side who will be there or there abouts come the end of the season. There were a lot of positives to be taken out of the Middlesborough game and the second half against Crystal Palace. I will pay no attention whatsoever to our position in the league until we have played 12 games, however a one point return from three games is a poor start regardless of who you have played! I do have a couple of early concerns. Firstly, we are leaking too many goals. I know that this sounds obvious but this isn't a problem that we have had for a very long time (even when we were relegated we had one of the best defensive records in the division). Secondly, we seem to pose little threat from set pieces. In the three league games so far we have had 32 corners (compared to just 9 corners conceded!) but have failed to make any of them count. Again, I'm not too worried just yet but Reading at home is now looking like a very big game for us.
David Guiza Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 No creativity, no ideas. A quality centre mid and winger is needed asap. N'Guessan may only be young but how often can that be an exscuse. Also we had 27 corners before todays game and had a fair few today yet we either hit it straight out or can't beat the first man. They were nothing special, with centre back paring of Carlisle and Bikey we still didn't trouble them.

We have always been shit at corners even under the amazing Pearson, whos side lost 4-0 last week. This is one of the toughest fixtures out of the way, against the strongest relegated side, we were always going to struggle in this one IMO. 3 games in and it's Sousa out from some already, unbelieveable. Reading next week, will be a win. We create countless chances and score 7 goals in 2 games and everyone calls the shit defence for leaking goals. Then we get a clean sheet and everyone says we can't score goals, we need a striker to stick the ball in the net. Had we taken 4 points or more from these 3 games these same people would be saying solid start playoffs possibly again. Now theres a tosser saying we should have kept Holloway!!! OMG! Burnley are similar to what West Brom were last season IMO, we lost that game 3-0 away didn't we and i'm sure all this doom didn't follow.
smallpauldj Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 im still not worried but do agree that the Reading game is now massive for us, and in front of the sky cams who we always shine for. hmmmm
eastendfox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Heading back south, desperately poor up front, never looked like scoring, and subbing Neilsen cost two goals. Burnley were a decent side, but the lack of a plan B once we were behind was very worrying.
VampLCFC Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Some bloke on RL saying we sholdve kept Holloway and things would be different if he was still here!!! Where do they find these people??!!
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Some bloke on RL saying we sholdve kept Holloway and things would be different if he was still here!!! Where do they find these people??!! Whilst I disagree with the sentiment it is useful to note he got a team promoted to the Prem last season.
David Guiza Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Reading aren't a bad side for anyone who thinks that's a nailed on win. Far from Sousa out or anything like that but the longer we go on without a win the more fans will get on the back and the harder it will become. Forest were in this position last season and look where they finished, and could have finished. But there are more then a couple of players who aren't good enough, they shown that last season as well as this.
Callabinho Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 It was all too easy for Burnley today! we couldn't pass, to be honest we couldn't do anything. Chris Iwelumo's goal was the easiest goal he will score this season! I've picked Burnley to go up this year along with Q.P.R and Cardiff. Its ok saying bring in Chopra bring in Whittingham, but they wouldn't join us! I am not trying to sound negative but the journey to Burnley today was a waste of money and petrol! Burnley didn't even have to play well, yet they got a three nil score line! I've heard that Sousa said on the radio that he thought we dominated the first half......I'm sorry sun shine but we didn't and D.J was really quiet today, should have buried his chance! Spoke to a Burnley fan after they game, and he said "i was really surprised we beat you so comfortably today, your defence isn't much good, and neither are Andy King or Matt Oakley!" we were outclassed today! Just feel like crap! we get taken over, have an alleged £10 million war chest, and we look like a bunch of nervous Kittens away from home!

I agree that we should score from them, but to say they go straight out or cant beat the first man is nonsense. Have you been to a match this season?

They say that teams reflect their coach and today the team played like Sousa - looked good but achieved fook all. We should have been 3 up by half time but we didnt take our chances - Logan was a disaster. Neilson had a really good game making some great crosses but was then subbed(although Lamey looked good) they looked liked a team who didnt understand what the coach wanted from them. Howard and DJ looked on different wavelengths - Dany just isnt good enough. Sorry tp be so negative - i try to stay positive but what i saw today is not going to get us promotion and unless we pick up 3 points next week, will become a worry.
David Guiza Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 So where did Oakleys corners go? Over N'Guessans head and out for a goal kick. Not straight off the pitch obviously but may as well have been. Wellens wasn't much better. Corners are not at all guarenteed goals but we don't look at all like troubeling anyone at the minute from set plays.
FrankieADZ Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Well of course im gutted about the result, but we can't win every game and Burnley are the strongest of the teams to drop down from the prem imo, So I wasn't expecting us to go there are open them up like a box of chocolate. But from what I saw at home to Boro, I think we are more than able to turn it round.
G-OIMC Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 It could be worse we could be bottom of the league!! Hang on we are! Need some good championship players that we all know to come in. Let's forget about any Cardiff players why would they come to us!

Let's forget about any Cardiff players why would they come to us! yeah after 3 matches, we arent even out the first month. if we are still in the same position by the end of Sept. then i'll start to worry. hate to see what some ppl are like in a real crisis, <_<
wurmer Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Don't recollect seeing it, but has anyone said how bad Weale's injury is?
chesterfox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Don't recollect seeing it, but has anyone said how bad Weale's injury is? shoulder injury - didnt seem to be too bad
dpjfox Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 just got back. Utter crap, beaten 3-0 by a no better than average team Sorry no positives Only Hobbs Wellens and DJ werent crap, Oakley Howard and DN woefull
Fox92 Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Weale went off far to easy, as soon as he picks up a knock he goes off. It didn't look bad. As for the goals, no chance for number one, Logan looked like he was flapping and it was a Graham Alexander penalty! Wellens and Hobbs were our best players. All Burnley do is play long football. I hate it.
Fox92 Posted 21 August 2010 Posted 21 August 2010 Also, N'Guessan is one of the worst players I have ever seen.
