ajthefox Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I for one actually quite like the Walkers Stadium as a name, since there is a bit of a local connection and Walkers has been a sponsor for ages. Having said that, if it is re-named the Singha then whatever, I'd be a little disapointed but I won't call it that so it won't make too much difference. I'd much rather we just had a permanent name i.e Filbert Way and gave Singha all the advertising Walkers has, but pretty sure that won't happen.
The Doctor Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Firstly, if that was the case, Sarcasm obviously doesn't travel well on a computer And 'Walkers' is a Leicestershire company. Correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure Singha has nothing to do with England or Leicester. and? that doesn't make it worse than walkers. why am i even bothering to argue this? i couldn't care where city play, just how city play.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I totally agree. Well at least you agree with that, after calling me a prat further up or on the previous page.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 and? that doesn't make it worse than walkers. why am i even bothering to argue this? i couldn't care where city play, just how city play. The majority seem to agree. Our connection with Walkers has been associated with us for some time now, a local connection. People will come to 'the singha' and go 'ahh can tell we're in leicester'. I gurantee the above statement will get all the do-gooders calling me a racist when im blatently not but hey.
shailen Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 If it helps them to make money for their business, who cares? As long as they reinvest that money in tansfer kitty
Benji Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 A load of money for something I couldn't care less about? Sounds like daylight robbery. I remember when everyone was up in arms about the dodgy Newcastle name change. Can't say I've ever heard the new name referred to after the week of publicity it got. So many more things to worry about in life.
Salieri Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 People will come to 'the singha' and go 'ahh can tell we're in leicester'. Probably yeah, but do you really care?

Racist I know what you mean though, that definitely would happen.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Nothing wrong with Gay Meadow, a good old traditional name based on the actual location of the ground and why we should be playing at the Raw Dykes Stadium. I'd still go for Filbert way. Raw Dykes Road makes me think of Steak and Lesbians for some reason.

To be fair Walkers is just part of the international Pepsico brand now anyway. Fair enough there is still the manufacturing element that remains local but everywhere outside of England it's famous as Lays. I could understand when we no longer played at Filbert Street, for me the best stadium names are the roads the grounds are found on. But now we're just jumping from one international brand to another
Zingari Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Leicester fans could argue about any fookin thing
Salieri Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Leicester fans could argue about any fookin thing No we couldn't, what the hell are you banging on about man?
Zingari Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 No we couldn't, what the hell are you banging on about man? who you calling a wee cvnt ?
Jordan Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure Singha has nothing to do with England or Leicester. Singha beer has as much to do with England or Leicester as potato crisps have to do with football.
Thracian Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Singha... it has a certain "ring-ha" to it... But seriously... make it Filbert Way already... LISTEN TO THE FANS! There's no chance of that! I just wonder which we'll have most of in the next 10 years .... managers or stadium names.
Fosse Boy Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Football is for you and me, not for fvcking industry...
Hammster Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I'd prefer the Walkers (if we're gunna go for a sponsor anyway) but if Singha are gunna bring more money in then who gives two ****s? I'd rather have some quality players than a quality stadium name (and let's be honest the Walkers isn't a quality stadium name anyway).
Corky Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Walkers? Singha? Does it really matter? It will always have a brand name unless the club don't see it as lucrative or they are feeling traditional. I think we'd all prefer Filbert Way or Freeman's Wharf or whatnot, but this type of deal brings in money that we can't turn down in all honesty.
Spiritwalker Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I'd still go for Filbert way. Raw Dykes Road makes me think of Steak and Lesbians for some reason. Raw Dykes Road for me ( there's nothing wrong with thinking about steak and lesbians)
BoneDog Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 We've got three choices. Who would you prefer to sponsor your football stadium? Crisps or Beer and ladies or The Hoff Now, obviously we'd all prefer The Hass, but that aint gonna happen. We have to deal with that, but in the meantime I'm happy to be associated with fine lager/beer and ladies you big puffs! The Walkers is rubbish! It's crisps!
Jakemoore Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Let's just call it Fosse Park!?!? Much better.
Salieri Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I prefer 'The King Singha Walkers Power Stadium' personally.
Spiritwalker Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 On a serious note, we sold out when we decided to give our ground a brand name. When you sell out you just have to make sure it's to the highest bidder.
Jordan Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I've got an idea for a compromise: we keep the stadium's name as "Walkers Stadium," but we rename the matchday commentator/tweeter extraordinaire "Ian Singha."
