BoneDog Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I've got an idea for the compromise: we keep the stadium's name as "Walkers Stadium," but we rename the matchday commentator/tweeter extraordinaire "Ian Singha." Ian Singha yes! I reckon he'd be up for that if they made him a good offer and chucked in a couple of Singha ladies for a photo-shoot.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Football is for you and me, not for fvcking industry... YES!
PAULCFC Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 The sewing machine stadium it is then..........To be honest don't really care
davieG Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 I'd still go for Filbert way. Raw Dykes Road makes me think of Steak and Lesbians for some reason. Filbert Way is as much a made up / contrived name as any of those sponsors names dreampt up by the club and the council to keep the fans happy and quiet re the attempt to call it the Walkers Bowl. It's a shame the stadium didn't have a 'natural' name before the idea of sponsoring it came along> I'm sure if we were still at Filbert St we'd all still be referring to it as that what ever silly sponsorship name they came up with.
Spudulike Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 The stadium is built on FREEMENS WHARF. No other name required. End of.
Collier Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 Probably in the minority but I actually didn't feel like projectile vomiting at the Singha logo on the shirts against Thailand. I actually thought it looked pretty smart. *And I know it'll never happen but Singha Stadium sounds beautiful. Feel like fucking Derren Brown. Don't think the name sounds bad at all, I just say 'I'm going down the City' anyway.

Yeah I can see where your coming from. I suppose that traditional names for new stadiums are becoming a thing of the past. Which is a real shame. Arsenal for example, the transition between Highbury and the Emirates, but then again, I wonder how much Arsenal reap in due to the naming rights of the stadium.
Babylon Posted 16 October 2010 Posted 16 October 2010 How about the "Bitch, bitch. Moan moan, i'm never fooking happy miserable bastard stadium"? Would sum up the clubs support.
Babylon Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I just want to be known as an 'English' team, these new owners have come in and that name makes us sound like a team from Thailand. Im struggling to get my point across clearly, but Singha kinda takes away our identity. We were already owned by a foreigner, we already employed foreigners on the playing staff and behind the scenes, we've had foreign shirt sponsors before, Walkers are owned by a foreign company, Leicester has a higher % of Asians than anywhere else.... The notion that these people coming in and changing the stadium name from crisps to beer is making us "less English" is really quite laughable. I wonder if Malcolm Glazer is thinking of re-naming Old trafford, the Singha Stadium, because of money. Or if the new Liverpool owners, Want to rename Anfield, 'The Standard Chartered Stadium' Can you not see the difference between ours and theirs? Our stadium name went to the highest bidder, the same as The Emirates did. Anfield and Old Trafford aren't already named after a sponsor.
Alexikokopops Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I hope they don't change the name. I'd hate it if people no longer associated us with fucking crisps
Lillehamring Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I prefer 'The King Singha Walkers Power Stadium' personally. i'm sure these gents would approve

Anfield and Old Trafford aren't already named after a sponsor. as stringer said, we are a club owned by thais, with a serbian chairman, an american chief executive, and a swedish manager.... add to that the 'birch' is a cockney and the stadium itself is financed by americans, any of you parochialists who plug away at your belief that we are a local club, for local people, need to get your heads out of the 20th century. as far as the name, stringer was saying 'singha beer stadium' which is a lot worse than the singha stadium, and surely the beer bowl is a step up the party requisites list than the crisp bowl, personally i'm hanging on for the Dom Perignon sponsorship, so we can play at the champagne bowl. spare a thought for the san francisco giants, who from 03-06, played at pacific bell park, that became the SBC park, when Pacific bell were bought out, who then merged with AT&T so now it is the AT&T park, very catchy.
Tilley Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Just from one brand to another, don't see what all the fuss is about. I think it's a decent enough name.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Slap your logo's everywhere, that's fine as they can be dealt with when this Thai lot all fuck off when it goes pear shaped, but leave the stadium name alone. That said, if you are going to change it, don't have any name to it and call it FILBERT WAY!!!
whitlock Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Surely the banner around the top of the ground will need to be taken down? ( the strip underneath the flood lights) im hoping they can just replace the walkers logo and not completley take it down. It brings a unique touch to the stadium.
ScouseFox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 The "people won't know we are Leicester because Singha isn't a Leicester company" argument is superb. If away fans, who i couldn't give a monkeys about, don't realise that they're playing Leicester in Leicester when they arrive at the Singha Stadium, then they've got big problems.

Certainly wouldn't have thought it'd initially say Leicester to people outside of Leicester.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 My master plan goes like this: Win the Euro Millions when it gets back up £100m+ Buy a business and rename it Filbert Street Ltd Offer LCFC a sponsorship deal on the stadium based on my company name Foolproof.

Guest Basildon Fox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 fook me. There is no Leicester connection in the board room anymore and yet nobody is moaning about that, but try changing the stadium name (which is already shit) and people are up in arms. It's a stadium name ffs. Get a grip.

Or alternatively, I'm going to win it, buy LCFC off these tits that are making it a joke and then make it a fan owned club like Barcelona!
lcfcsnow Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I'm pleased with what the new owners are doing but this would be a step too far. Now I know the stadium name is rubbish anyway but if you're going to change it surely it has to be filbert way? Singha stadium is comical, sounds like some Asian team. I don't think they should get away with it, remember when stadium was going to be called the bowl? We soon got that sorted. Id rather us have two sponsors on the shirt than call the stadium that. Message to owners- don't take away our heritage. It's our club.

Our heritage went when we moved from filbert street and sold the naming rights to the highest bidder. What's the difference now? "the singha stadium" sounds no worse than "the walkers stadium" if singha are giving us more money than walkers then let them have what they want

Shirt sponsor could be singha beer, and the King Power stadium is a more acceptable stadium name. They're changing too much too soon though. And setting silly expectations that can't be achieved through money alone, promotion this season when we're bottom 3?! I'm fearful about whats next on the change list, the badge is my guess.
