Koke Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has signed striker Darius Vassell until the end of next season. The 30-year-old, who passed a medical on Wednesday, played under Eriksson at Manchester City and was a free agent after leaving Turkish side Ankaragucu. Eriksson told BBC Radio Leicester: "He will bring pace, experience and he can score goals. He has been at this level and higher for many years. "He is only 30 and should be able to play for many more years." Vassell began his career with Aston Villa and signed for City for £2m in the summer of 2005. The Birmingham-born forward, who was released by Manchester City in 2009, is now available on a free transfer after parting company with Ankaragucu. Vassell, who is still at least two weeks from being match fit, made 22 appearances for England and scored six goals. Last week Curtis Davies and Kyle Naughton joined the Foxes on loan and both made their debuts in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Hull City. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/leicester_city/9102641.stm
Ric Flair Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 I think this will be Sven's best signing yet when he's fit. Got a feeling he's going to be very reliable for us, maybe not with a prolific amount of goals, but important goals that win us points. He's always done it.

As someone (possibly Collier) brought up, he's never lost an English league game in which he's scored. Lovely stuff.

ollie_patterson Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 can he play against Swansea or does he need to wait for international clearance?
Ric Flair Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Shame he doesn't score in many. Haha! I had Vassell in my dream team the season he played under Sven and I swear every goal he scored it got him man of the match and bonus points because he was the difference that day between loss and draw/victory. We need a player like that, King does it as well, but the more the merrier.
Simo86 Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 can he play against Swansea or does he need to wait for international clearance? I hope you're joking......................
LeicesterLuke Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2190762,00.html Its back up now.
STUHILL Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Not a bad signing for us. Not know for being prolific goal scorer but he has pace which will cause problems and can play on either wing which will be a step up from N'Guessen and Gallagher. Still think we need another striker such as Miller or Roberts
Alexikokopops Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Surprised at the length of the contract, but I can't imagine he's on too much.
ollie_patterson Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 I hope you're joking...................... where does he buy his boots from or are they coming along with his international clearance?
scott_gunnell Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 I think it’s a major advantage for Sven to bring in a player he knows extremely well. It means he already knows exactly how the player plays, his attitude, his abilities etc and I am sure in his mind he knows what his role is going to be. Yes, I know his role is to score goals but there is more to it then that. If promotion this year is going to happen then I think he needs players who he feels can instantly impact. Should be interesting lads
AmyLGK Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 can he play against Swansea or does he need to wait for international clearance? No - if you read the article you'll see that he wont be match fit for 2 weeks - I'd say that's at the earliest. He's not played all year, and we can only speculate what training he's been doing in the mean time.
Simo86 Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 where does he buy his boots from or are they coming along with his international clearance? Why would an english player need international clearance!?
Tilley Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Big Daddy V is going to bag a brace on Saturday.
lildave3 Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 can he play against Swansea or does he need to wait for international clearance? !
Messi Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Ollie_Patterson, please tell me your joking? I'm not sure what to make of this signing, I'm not going to judge it till I see him play. Could be a flop, could me a magic signing, I'm hoping for the latter
Blue Bob Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 can he play against Swansea or does he need to wait for international clearance? Said it will take 2 weeks for him to be fit, maybe on the bench at best. Sorry mate you no longer need a passport to go over to wales - pity but true!
Blue Foxes Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Goal of the season Not many players have that in their locker
sdb Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Elvis Hammond and Marc De Vries spent years at LCFC trying to replicate that goal
Guest BlueBrett Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Goal of the season Ahh the old air shot dummy standing leg shot! Not seen anybody bust out one of those to such great effect in many many moons. What a player!
The Doctor Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 is it till the end of the season or 2 years? I've seen both reported.
Ozwin Posted 20 October 2010 Posted 20 October 2010 Elvis Hammond and Marc De Vries spent years at LCFC trying to replicate that goal It sends shivers down my spine thinking back to those days.
