I honestly now think we have a better team than last season and am hopeful we can go on a decent run. Think we are going to thrash somebody too but hopefully we can save that for Derby.

Even comparing the squad from the first game of the season to that of the one on saturday, you can see how improved it is. Our strength in depth is superb.

1 Weale

4 Morrison

15 Berner

2 Neilson

25 Hobbs

11 Dyer

10 King

8 Oakley

12 Fryatt

17 N'Guessan

32 Campbell

which was pearson's squad, who finished in the playoffs last year - pearson is now heading towards the bottom 3 with premiership players....

anyone still unhappy that he went?

I had mixed feelings when Pearson left as we'd done well but not in an overly entertaining way.

The standout part of his reign for me was his (or Steve Walsh's) ability (for the most part ) to spot a good player either as a permanent acquisition or on loan

Would've been interesting to see who he would have brought in if he'd had the same sort of financial backing as the Thais are now giving to Sven

Judging by the way things are/have been coming together, we look much more composed and passionate under Sven-Göran Eriksson than under Sousa and (to parts) under Pearson.

He manages to combine both styles to come up with something really steady.

Now, with two clean sheets under the belt, a rock-solid defense and a midfield that looks like it can match Barcelona's soonish (on a Championship level, mind you), all we now need is a striking force that can actually live up to its name.

There's definitely improved service coming from the middle of the park, but the rather tame trio of Waghorn, Howard and Gallagher, who have put in more or less disappointing displays up to this point, as well as Vassell only need to tuck these away. Our forwards and the poor standard of our standards have been the most consistently frustrating component in this year's campaign so far - our most dangerous weapon being a young Welsh midfielder (no disrespect to Andy King).

With Sheffield United coming to town, what better opportunity for our strikers to show what they're made of.

And one in particular will rejoice playing the Morgan-less Blades at home: Der, der, der, der Matty Fryatt.:chant:

(That is, if he's given a chance by Eriksson)

It's got all the ingredients for a perfect script, this Wednesday's matchup.

Yes.

It doesn't matter what happens at Hull, it was a different story here.

I don't care if we end up in the premiership, what Mandaric has done would still be wrong. He didn't plan for Sven to come, he just got very fortunate, and now everyone is forgetting his selfish and wrong decision.

If Pearson had had the backing Sven is having we'd be better off now because we wouldn't be so far off the pace already.

Besides Sven has had about 5 games, you can't even compare what he's done with Pearson's achievements here.

It's not Sven I don't like, it's Mandaric, and the whole situation and atmosphere since the money's come in. I don't like the attitude of the fans or the club since the Thai's came.

Slating Pearson sums it up.

For me our improving fitness offers encouragement especially as we seem to be taking the field with a team of footballers who are also prepared to compete for the ball.

The more Sven has added to our side in terms of effect (attacking full-backs, footballing centre-backs, Abe allowing King to get forward more, Wellens' suddenly becoming a faster passer etc) the harder it is for the opposition to deal with us because the threat is much more widespread.

Sven has already alluded to the need for our willingness to work to become consistent which will certainly be one of the requirements against Sheff U but the other thing is our attitude should we take the lead. It may be illusion but I feel that Sven has talked about this and insisted that we keep playing our football and keep trying to score rather than making the mistake of sitting back and trying to preserve a one goal advantage.

It's been a fault of ours for so many seasons and I hope it's behind us because only by trying to keep scoring goals will we become a team to be feared and capable of winning promotion.

Despaite the Swansea setback I've consideable faith in Sven as a tactician and motivator so I'll say 3-1.Waghorn, King and a belter of a shot from Abe.

I didn't understand the decision really to replace him with Sousa, as I believe Pearson is a better manager than Sousa.

However, Sven is better than both, and I'm pleased we've got him in charge, but it would've been interesting to see how Pearson fared with the backing we've got in place now.

I feel there is still a fair amount of work to do fitness wise, Dyer still seems well off the pace, possibly carrying an injury, Gallagher and Wellens still look to be carrying too much weight and neither Fryatt nor Berner look fit enough or sharp enough for first team football. Our own players look badly prepared compared to several of our loanees, Sousa has a lot to answer for!

Our back 4 bring a level of ability to the team that I have not seen in sometime, but none of them are our players and personally I find this worrying. The new look midfield is promising but I remain concerned about the lack of creativity and we still lack options particularly in wide positions.

The lack of confidence that permeates the side remains an issue, particularly given the number of new players already drafted in, if this issue is a holdover from early season then the finger has to point at Gallagher, Wellens or King as the only players still in the side who have been involved pretty much all season...:dunno:

Whilst i have considerable faith in Sven, I feel he is constructing a holding position to get us through to January when it will be all change again, once again I find this somewhat unsettling and if I find it so, what are the players thinking?

Basically some fans are never happy?

A typical example of a Pessimistic Leicester fan, we have a back four worth about £20m (not ours as you pointed out) but if they help us to promotion then who cares. Vitor is also here the whole season don't forget

I will hope Sheffield United don't put 10 men behind the ball and do a smash and grab win on us with their currently off form strikers like Jamie Ward or Cresswell grabbing a late winner! I have voted for a win for us but won't say by how many or how we play! It will be a narrow one though I feel. Whereas a game we would've won convincingly under Pearson last season when confidence was up (say by 2 or 3 goals) are ones we're going to win by the odd goal instead this season. Mustn't grumble for small mercies though.

Sadly I've been unable to get to the Walkers since the Messiah Sven took charge - but next hope to on Boxing Day against Leeds. Indeed I haven't been able to be there since the dreaded Sousa was last there (the QPR debacle on September 18th). Anyway you're right, Sousa indeed had a lot to answer for while in his brief time in charge - with our appalling start and resulting terrible goal difference being a definite hindrance for us, even now! Also pre season training must've been woefully slack for some of last season's top performers being below par and as unfit looking as they've been so far this season - Wellens and Berner for starters. Gallagher has been suspect but looks more on song now since Sven came in and started to play him more regularly. Hope the likes of King and Wellens to well too plus that the loanees can shine tomorrow, plus Vassell!

Nonsense, I'm actually pretty happy with the way things are going under Sven, I feel he is making a big difference and our play is improving match by match.

However are performances are still a long way from the standard required to achieve our stated aims, ie promotion this season. After our appalling start an automatic promotion spot could be beyond us, irrespective of who can be brought in during January and to even get into the play offs we need to be consistently better than the half dozen or so teams just behind the top two.

I see no reason to be content with our current situation, I want to see us do much better and given our current circumstances I feel there is every opportunity of us doing so. We may have taken a step or two in the right direction but there is still a long way to go.

I am actually a very optomistic fan, I always expect and believe that our team can do well, in fact I was very complementary about some of the football we played under Sousa, despite the 'other' issues that were clearly apparent. This is why I offer cricism on a regular basis, I really do believe we can do better and I never tire of putting forward my observations and suggestions for ways we can improve.

I am not a big fan of Oscar Wilde, but I do approve of his aphorism that said, "I am a man of simple tastes, I am always satisfied with the best".

(From memory, could not be bothered to look up the quote.}

Given the shit start we had, if we win tonight we're only 3 points outside of the play-offs. With Derby, Bristol and Forest coming up, there's a great chance that by December 1st we'll be in 6th place..

The tables obviously very tight at present, but we're more than capable ;)

A bit of belief, please. :D

Agreed, massive game, a win would leave us 3 points from Play off spot. But in saying that, this match is the easiest of the 3 this month.....both Derby and Forest are hitting form.

A good win, will ease some pressure and give us a massive confidence boost for the 2 rival games to come!!

I think if we can win tonight like Dr The Singh said; it'll take pressure off of getting results from in form Florist and The Lambs. I'm going for a 3-1 City! A draw against Forest and Derby would be sufficient!

Nonsense...

If we are looking for promotion this season the pressure is on all our games.

Lousy goal difference, rubbish start to the season, we need to win our home games at the very least. Teams will come looking for a draw, we need to be confident and to beat them, home draws are not sufficient!
