Daggers Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 a good run against yeovil? wow. he didn't score tho did he, and yet on the strength of this he's the greatest ever city player according to some. And you saw him play how many times?
martyn Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 a good run against yeovil? wow. he didn't score tho did he, and yet on the strength of this he's the greatest ever city player according to some. wellens is inconsistent and i'd love us to sign a class midfielder, ]but you don't get class midfielers off bolton's bench for 1.5M[/b i'm sure he's got talent but i don't see him being the player to project us into the premier league. Much like you don't get class players from Chelsea reserves for £600k etc etc etc.

It's people like you who suddenly think we'll sign Xabi Alonso, I can't believe you are turning your nose up at that kind of player, it beggars belief. We are 17th in the bloody Championship at the moment, forget the premier league! Aren't you in Norway anyway? Hardly one to judge. It's like me going to the Netherlands and telling them which clogs looks more fashionable. Maybe people would take you more seriously if you took a breath and stopped typing and spuffing your negative opinion in threads
Fox You Forest Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 he didn't score tho did he, and yet on the strength of this he's the greatest ever city player according to some. For one or two it may be on the strength of that but not me, he looked far too classy for League One in his short stint with us, he may not be good enough to get in a Bolton side that are on fire at the minute and he may not be as good as some make him out to be but he'd be extremely comfortable in the Championship no doubt about. I'd have him over Wellens.
wattolcfc Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Davies was and still is class, better than Wellens and will scare a defence. Quality player. When he was fit at Bolton at the start, there were rumours of Man Utd scouting him, says it all really?

For what it is worth I saw him play a couple of times during his brief spell with us. I actually thought he was pretty decent, and more importantly different to what we have. As I recall he was a very powerful runner, both with and without the ball and gave our attacks a degree of pace and purpose that we have not had since. He drove forward at pace and committed the opposition defense before they were properly set, something none of our current midfielders can do. I thought he was pretty damn effective though his highly energetic style does appear to make him susceptible to injury, if the injury issues are under control, then I would take him like a shot. Not of course that I think we are after him or anything, it is highly unlikely in my view.

Even before Bolton emerged from the Megson era as unlikely top half premiership side he wasn't getting much footy there though for some reason

Lillehamring Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 And you saw him play how many times? jesus, still on that old tack.... well he only started 5 games, and i'm pretty sure i caught one of them, so no one on here can really claim a great deal of empirical evidence for me to appraise him based on what i''ve seen and what i've read and come up with the same opinion as others that he's got talent but isn't necessarily better than anything we already have is no less valid than those that consider him to be the most exciting talent this side of the pyrenees based on half a dozen loan appearances and a decent, yet unproductive run against that footballing megalith, yeovil town. yes, it was exciting at the time, when we had very little to get excited about, but that doesn't make him the answer to all our problems. yet his name seems to pop up all the time, just like james vaughan. lets face it, we have the kind of spending power we didn't have the when davies guested for us - do you really think sven and the thais are going to spend a million and a half on a guy thats started 30 games in 5 years.
Jakemoore Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Would love to see him back here, but wether that would happen though i wonder. Who's place would he take in the team though. Wellens maybe? That's exactly my problem with this, i'd love to sign him but if we ever did then who would he replace? He certainly couldnt replace King, he's our main goal threat. And Wellens and Abe are becoming a formidable partnership; they're remind me of the puppeteers to our puppet show. I know Cleverly is with Wigan but id prefer him over Davies
Lillehamring Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 It's people like you who suddenly think we'll sign Xabi Alonso, the way some people are talking about davies, you'd think we were signing xabi alonso I can't believe you are turning your nose up at that kind of player, it beggars belief. that kind of player? a player who has started 30 games in 5 years (that's 6 a year on average), i'm not turning my nose up, i just think our money can be better spent, we have some decent centre mids, and tho i'd love to see better players, i don't think that we should prioritise that role, unless we know we can get someone proven at a higher level, which davies is not We are 17th in the bloody Championship at the moment, forget the premier league! and yet we're talking about signing players like naughton and davis, anything is possible, if we can afford 4M on them, then maybe we can afford that on a game winning midfielder Aren't you in Norway anyway? Hardly one to judge. It's like me going to the Netherlands and telling them which clogs looks more fashionable. yeah, it's exactly like that - so the 29 pages of posts on the champions league and european football should also be dismissed? as i said in another post, can anybody on here claim to be an expert on him, hardly he's not really played often enough, certainly not at the walkers - i've allowed that he has talent, i just don't see the evidence that he is god's gift, better than what we have or the best version of his type of player that we can get. Maybe people would take you more seriously if you took a breath and stopped typing and spuffing your negative opinion in threads i have no wish problem whether i am taken seriously or not, i post on here to express my feelings, if people are interested or appreciate what i say, then, jolly good, if not... oh, and for you of all people to go around accusing people of being negative has give me a right good laugh, you outrageous hypocrite.

Sorry, that's wrong in this case, based on possibly seeing him in one match.

James_lcfc Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Best player I've seen at City since Muzzy.
wattolcfc Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Best player I've seen at City since Muzzy. Agreed
sdb Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 he'd be one of the top 10 players in this division easily imo. would love it.
North-LondonFox Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Much like you don't get class players from Chelsea reserves for £600k etc etc etc. Exactly - not saying this guy was Pele, but he was a class act and really stood out. I actually thought he was better Cleverly for us. Would love us to get him in Jan!
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Davies would be far superior to Wellens. The lads got velcro on his boots. The only thing Wellens has over Davies is that he isn't injury prone (touching wood that he doesn't now become so) Davies would be far superior to Wellens. The lads got velcro on his boots. SMX11 Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 ...........................Abe................................. ..........King.........................Davies............     Oh I creamed myself.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 Why would it be byebye Richie? He has been up their with candidates for man of the match for about the last 4-5 games? Why not Yuki Abe byebye? I haven't been impressed with him that much, but like King etc he can't do anything wrong because people think he is some sort of messiah. Gets quite annoying to be honest. This! Can't be doing with the Wellens criticism all the time. By far our hardest working midfielder, does all the dirty work. King is pretty much nailed on due to his goalscoring ability at crucial times. Like you say Abe has been decent, but because of his rep, everyone gets far too carried away.
North-LondonFox Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 I think Richie's a decent player and good passer of the ball, but what I saw of Davies was definitely better. Just my opinion.

Fox You Forest Posted 25 November 2010 Posted 25 November 2010 You may be right, but I can't understand anyone that takes out Wellens and not Abe for Davies. Maybe because Yuki is a defensive midfielder and Davies isn't...

Maybe they're thinkin about potential - ABE does seem to be getting better? Kingy is the strange one for me - such a fantastic (and natural) goal scorer but sometimes really goes missing for a central midfielder.....still a cracking young player who seems to genuinely love playing for us!
