Forest Post-match Gloating

Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention but I don't think it was a great match for us.

First half they were better, we offered little going forward and they could well have scored, forget if it was adebola or not but someone had a great chance.

Decent second half. Deserved the goal, Gally could have scored straigh after too and forest never really threatened.

Never been so incensed by a penalty decision in my entire life, was absolutly livid an still don't see how it could possibly not be a pen. Their was debateable and I was worried for a split second, they have been given before. That doesn't really matter though since ours was just insane.

All in all, we've got the 3 points and another clean sheet which Weale deserves a lot of credit for so onwards and upwards. :scarf:

I love how everyone hates Wellens. He's become our annoying little pest, I don't think he dives that much really either, he invites tackles rather than falls over.

Weird, I thought we totally outplayed them for most of the game. Agree about the couple of close calls which are bound to happen when playing a team as good as Forest, but other than that it seemed like they never had a hope in hell.

I think part of it is just me, saw the whole 90 minutes but feels like a bit of a blur.

Early on I felt they were going to score and it just seemed like we were pissing about at the back then going forward and giving it away and Bednar never really got in it for me because he had little service of real use.

Towards the end I did think it was a little odd how we seemed the more likely to score again, but I never thought we played particularly better than usual, more that forest just weren't in it.

I guess you could argue we pressured them hence they weren't in it. Circular arguement that is really though.

Looking at the Forest forum that seems to be their general feeling. 2 crap performances, just they were worse. Who knows. :dunno:

What a bunch of sore losers Forest are. I mean Wellens does go down too easily for me but none of our players were diving tonight. Did any of them go to the same fixture last season? I've never seen so much rolling around in my life. And tonight they were time wasting from minute one. They just set out to spoil us.

Thought we were too cautious the first half, a bit too scared to go at them. The long balls were a bit desperate. Cunningham's set pieces were our best threat.

Vassell was poor and negative first half but he was a big influence in the second. He amongst others were willing to make some driving runs from midfield and that was the difference from the first. It took us a whole half to realise we were a better team than them, which is when we took control, otherwise we would have beaten them by a bigger scoreline. TBF Forest did close us down well for most of the game and we couldn't dreate as much as we did against Derby. Gallagher should have done better with his chance and Dyer's arse and Camp got in the way of Howard.

Bednar didn't offer what Howard does so well in the first half, but he does look more mobile and did some decent things in the second. Naughton didn't have one of his better games but the defence as a unit was very solid. Hobbs was fantastic and Weale made 2 good saves.

The midfield 3 were far better than the Forest midfield and as the game went on they started to realise it more. They became more influential as the game went on and it was only a matter of time until Kingy scored.

Think 1-0 was a fair scoreline, would have liked a few more but beating them is great no matter how

Great victory :trumpet:

Howard deserved a goal last night, he did everything right with that effort but Camp pulled off a great save. Bednar at the other end too was unlucky not to score with Camp again making a fine save.

And Andy King just keeps on getting himself in great goal scoring positions. What a player he's turning out to be.

Curtis Davis' face after he had that 25 yard effort !

A few words before I head out to do battle with the weather. Great result, no more than decent performance wise.

i thought that although most of our players did quite well there was a noticeable lack of co-ordination and for a good part of both halves we really did not look at all together. In some respects the bitty, stop go nature of our play was quite disappointing, I hope that it is really just down to all the new players getting settled in but I remain a bit concerned, better teams will punish us.

To be specific I feel that our defence remains a collection of individuals, nowhere near a coherent unit. Naughton and Davies in particular seem to lack discipline, both displaying poor decision making going forward that leave the right side of our defence wide open, we often look vulnerable on the counter. Weale and Hobbs were both pretty good tonight, just as well given the 'flightyness' of their defensive partners.

It might seem an odd thing to say but despite good individual performances, our three man midfield still seems to under achieve, due, I think, to the fact that, Kings scoring ability aside, they are all similar players doing similar jobs. The all get box to box and put in a lot of effort but there is little creativity going forward, what there is comes mostly from Wellens, and since nobody plays the holding role our defence lacks cover, particularly as all of them bar Hobbs, like to get forward.

Up front we remain toothless, it is too early to say whether Bednar will make a difference or not but to my mind we still have big issues in this area. Vassell seems only able to play in short bursts, though he is much better when he comes inside to support the central striker. Gallagher on the other hand has neither the pace of a wide man nor the instincts of a striker he really needs to be given the (central) playmaker role though how that fits with our current setup is problematic.

All in all Sven has increased the quality of the players we have available but to my mind they are still a long way off being a proper team, whether the bulk of them will be with us long enough for this to happen is clearly in doubt. As I have said elsewhere, there is still a huge amount of 'make do and mend' about our current team and a fair few of the players seem to know that.

Still if they can continue winning points at the current rate they will put us into a pretty decent position so that we can rebuild in January, and for the moment that is probably enough.

It does get a bit frustrating, watching the ball being passed around at the back as much as we did in the first half, but it's better than giving it away by just hoofing the ball forward in vague hope. I was pleased with Bednar, who reminded me a bit of Heskey. Vassell continues to be an enigma; in the first half he stayed in a smallish area down the right, when I'd have liked to see him move nearer to Bednar to pick up some lay-offs. That said, Vassell was more involved in the second half and caused a them few problems. Cunningham's free kicks were threatening, Abe was everywhere, playing an understated but hugely valuable role. The back four seems very settled now. It's inevitable that a team as good as Forest will create chances, but we dealt with them. Weale's save was as vital as King's goal. Our penalty shout was nailed on, theirs less so. Thought the ref was ok apart from the penalty call and that he didn't really deal with Forest's blatant sluggishness at restarting play. Overall, a very confident and assured performance from the whole team, which promises plenty more good things to come.

Some thoughts:

We looked disjointed. In the brief moments we looked like a cohesive side, we were excellent.

Vassell needs to run forwards more. The one time he did, we scored. But he always seems to check inside, even when he has the beating of the defence for pace.

Bednar was rubbish in the first half and only slightly better in the second half. He must have iron shins because everytime the ball came near him, the ball bounced about 5 yards off them.

Wellens is a diver. But he's our diver.

the difference between the two sides was our excellent midfield esp. 2nd half- breaking up their puny forward movement, winning the ball cleanly and launching quick counter attacks

Mornin' chaps, and congrats on a deserved victory.

I thought our game plan worked reasonably well for the first 10-20 mins but after that our midfield seemed to vanish and we never looked like creating anything until Tyson came on later and his pace gave your defence something to do.

Our wingers were particularly poor too. Anderson's been a bit sort of form recently anyway and McCleary whilst being able to turn your full back inside out as long as he was in a tradition wingers position and taking him on, if he got the ball anywhere else he'd just give it away. His crossing was abysmal anyway so it didn't matter if he got your guy facing the wrong way he couldn't find a red shirt afterwards.

As for the ref, he seemed to think Bednar was untouchable despite giving every bit as good as he got. As for the penalties, I didn't see yours as it was at the other end but I saw Earnie go down and I thought if he trip him it was probably an accidental tap of the trailing leg which, depending on the ref, could've been given or not. It would've been ill deserved had we equalised anyway.

All in all we were fairly dreadful.and deserved to lose.

My first visit to the Walkers and I have to say I'm no fan of it as a stadium. The concourses were nice but it's so bland inside. I could see the fosse boys singing, but heard not a peep from that end of the ground.

If you hadn't spent most of the 1st 60 mins time wasting and playing for a draw and attacked our defence which looked a bit shaky when run at you might have actually got and deserved something out of the game.

Is this a usual Davies tactic because it's not the Forest I've been used to seeing over the years.

It's a Davies thing and annoys us as much as everyone else. Lee Camp's the worst for it. He does everything bar light a cigar and have a nice sit down with a glass of port before taking a goal kick. I hate it.

I've seen you mention this a couple of times, personally I didn't see any real time wasting.

QPR on the other hand have probably been the worst culprits of this at The Walkers this season.

I think Colin invented it. Sheff Utd used to be worst for it.

Our recent game against QPR ended 0-0 for a reason. My god that was a dull 2hrs of my life I'm not getting back.

You didn't see the ref telling them to hurry up about 20 times but did nothing about it.

Admittedly not as bad as QPR this season or indeed that awful time under Holloway when they could have won Oscars for it but none the less irritating and for Forest a poor tactic because when they did run at our defence it looked nervous.

Paddy Kenny was their main culprit rolling on the floor like a swiss roll.

I must admit Camp was very lax, even in injury time he seemed in no real rush to lump the ball forward.

I was saying it all last season and last night reaffirmed my beliefs, Camp is a top flight keeper and I see no reason why he shouldn't get a England call up. His reflexes are second to none.

I didn't. Must've been the beer :D

Although, I thought we time wasted pretty well near to the end. Was surprised we didn't pick up a booking for the long drawn out throw ins.
