Mack Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Without writing a long essay these are the reasons why we can still make it... 1/ We're only 5 points off of 6th place. 2/ In spells we look like one of the best teams in this league. 3/ The team come the end of January wont look like it does now. 4/ Sven is a good football man and has decent staff around him. 5/ All the teams in this league drop points and go through rough patches, top 6 places will be up for grabs right into the last couple of games. Granted our Christmas results have been pretty terrible but the story is the same in almost all our games, we play very well for a spell but cant maintain it for the whole game. I expect Sven to tinker in January and for us to come out stronger and much more consistent in better quality performances for longer spells in games, and if we do then we will be in the top 6. A few bad results ruin an entire season, not in this league.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 It's not impossible, but it seems less likely than it did previously. I had doubts about Sven when he arrived which were blown away by the initial impact he made, but which are beginning to resurface. My main concern is that what he does is find players that are the finished article and attract them to play for him, rather than going for players that have slipped under the radar and getting the best out of them. (which is what MON and to a lesser extent Pearson did) In our current position, it will be hard for him to attract players that are already quality to a lower level. Also, of all his signings, I've only consistently been impressed by Naughton.
Christoph Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Tbh, whether we can or not isnt relivant because if we got to the premiership surely we wouldnt be ready to stay their. I think we need a season to build a solid squad
ozleicester Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Im still reasonably confident (stupidly optimistic is another description), Sven is a quality manager, he will have cash to spend and we will finish the season with a strong side that plays quality football. we are actually having a bit of luck go our way and so.. these factors say to me.. we will be prem possibilities in 2011.
SamFox Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 5 points off of a play-off place, however most teams have 2 games in hand (Forest have 4) Would be happy with a top 10 finish and build a more solid squad for next season, with Sven staying hopefully.

They still have to win the games in hand. Im so sure we will be in around the play-offs come the end of the season.
Finnegan Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Whilst the negativity is excessive, people really need to let go of this "only five points off" rubbish. It's not just that we have to find five points from somewhere, it's that we have to make those points up on OTHER teams who are already displaying play off form and have been doing so all season. Yes, the league is very tight this year but there's still about sixteen teams with a head start on us and we're due further turbulence in January when the squad inevitably gets reshaped again. As someone illustrated in the other thread, we'll have to complete the season with automatic promotion form in order to make up a points total that will match top six teams from previous years. Yes, there is a lot to be excited about following City at the moment but we should keep our feet on the ground and be patient. There's no harm in looking at the play off places and excitedly hoping that that's where we finish, but pinning our expectations on that is foolhardy. We've made some very, very clear progress under Sven and frankly I think that's been admirable. But for every step forward there's been a Leeds, Millwall, Bristol City or Watford. We're a team in transition. No harm in that, no need to panic and start being overly critical - but no need to keep preaching that we can "still go up", either.
MattyFromLE Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I think its achievable - blackpool weren't in contention until the last few months as i believe. Whether we'd survive i'm not sure - but i hope Andy King stays if we don't go up
SamFox Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 They still have to win the games in hand. Im so sure we will be in around the play-offs come the end of the season. So do we to be fair and with our current away form this is fairly unlikely but who knows.
I am Rod Hull Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I hope we don't do a Reading and leave it too late
Guest NGoloMode Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 So do we to be fair and with our current away form this is fairly unlikely but who knows. Form changes through out the season in the Championship.
teblin Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 It is possible but a very big ask. We'd have to win about 15 of our last 22 games and that is a very big ask considering we can't win away. I Think start the process of building a good side in Jan and if we manage to sneak the play offs great if not i'd hazard a guess we'll be very close to to the top next Season with Sven at the helm.
Finnegan Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Form changes through out the season in the Championship. Yes of course it does. But ours is very much mid-table at best over the last few games and we aren't showing any great signs that we're about to remedy that.
purpleronnie Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Ah it was bad refereeing that cost us, I knew it wasn't the forwards not taking their chances or bad defending.
wayne76 Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 personally i think the whole pre-season build up was a shambles under sousa players not fit ect. lets see what happens come jan! we must keep king definatly sign naughton davies well we all know he is keeping his options open sven must have more confeidence in waggy. this playing 1 up front aint happening he definatly needs to tinker more with tactics than transfers.
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I think its achievable - blackpool weren't in contention until the last few months as i believe. Whether we'd survive i'm not sure - but i hope Andy King stays if we don't go up After 24 games last season Blackpool had 36 points. They were in 9th place - 2 points behind 6th with a game in hand. We are currently 17th with 29 points - 5 points behind 6th having played a game more. I'm getting a little annoyed now with the whole "it's only 5 points" arguement - there are a lot of teams (plus a couple more when they have played their games in hand) between us and the play-offs - they won't all be losing!!!
Finnegan Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Ah it was bad refereeing that cost us, I knew it wasn't the forwards not taking their chances or bad defending. Knowing Zingari as we do I think we can rest assured he was probably joking.
Zingari Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 Knowing Zingari as we do I think we can rest assured he was probably joking. yes i was , i think we're past our "blame the referee" phase now
sphericalfox Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 I say Sven has been pretty much working miracles with both hands tied behind his back! He will be judged based on his movements in January.
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 They still have to win the games in hand. Im so sure we will be in around the play-offs come the end of the season. Given there are 16 teams in front of us most with games in hand, I am guessing there's a small chance they may play each other at some point. Meaning one of them will be taking points. We need to start picking up points on the road before we can even start to think about finishing top half and thats not negativity it is fact.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 all we need is a run of biased referees fixed
J.Lisemore Posted 29 December 2010 Posted 29 December 2010 1. Our away form is shocking. 2. Everyone has at least 1 game in hand over us.
