TheUltimateWinner Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 When Yakubu arrives that should push vassell down right, As he is one of our best players at the moment. But that leaves the left wing, Who would you like there? Or Who do you think sven will put there. At the moment I think sven will choose gally over dyer... Thoughts?
Ric Flair Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 To be honest, Dyer has done nothing of note for a while now. Gallagher is in better form in terms of goals and assists.
Edmund Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Their both completely different type of players. Whatever happened to squad rotation? I don't see why one should be frozen out of the squad for another. Look at the bigger picture we've got two excellent options to choose from which gives us more versatility when playing different formations and teams.
cc_star Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gally has hit some form recently and now we have Berner back in the team along with Bamba, and then Mee looks like he could be very dangerous - We're probably a real threat from corners & free-kicks which would suggest to me it's a no-brainer to play Gally especially when you take into account Dyer's contribution has dropped
superfox1980 Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gally everytime. He can cross, has natural ability, can shoot, set pieces are decent (most of the time). Dyer is wasteful, makes bad decisions, can't finish. Has pace and always gives 100% though, which are things he has over Gallagher.
muzzy1981 Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gallagher seems to have finally sorted out his set-peice taking, which makes him a more dangerous. Although it is great to have a player like Dyer to come on and change a game (Doncaster).
Captain... Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 With Berner at Left back it has to be Dyer, Gallagher has no pace, can't tackle and doesn't get stuck in not to mention he is not left footed, he is not going to beat his man and whip a cross in, he works well with Naughton down the right because Naughton provides the width and pace and creates the space for him. Berner is not going to do that. Gallagher and Berner on the left would put no pressure on the opposition's right full back and that would leave him able to maraude forwards double up on Berner and expose our left flank. If Gallagher is going to play he should be on the right and Vassell on the left, but I think Dyer on the left and Vassell on the right and tucking in to support Yakubu while Naughton provides the width and Dyer as a more orthodox winger on the left is the best way forwards.
dpjfox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 i want to see how mee performs first he might provide the pace that cunningham had but bruno hasnt, although predominally a defender mee has played midfield, im guessing he has pace and good crossing ability
lcfcsam Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Eriksson set to consider tactical shift Following the sumptuous loan capture of Yakubu Aiyegbeni from Premier League side Everton, Leicester City manager Sven Goran Eriksson now faces a number of troublesome decisions as his side head to Preston North End’s Deepdale hoping to make it three league wins on the bounce. Since his high profile, and unforeseen, arrival at Filbert Way back in October Eriksson has been almost regimentally insistent on playing a 4-5-1 formation which can be manipulated into holding a three-man attack, should the match demand it. During those early weeks Martyn Waghorn was the holder of the lone attacking role, and then came Steve Howard, until Darius Vassell arrived on the back of a short stay in Turkey with Ankaragücü. For a short while Vassell had to make do with a role on the right wing, a position he struggled to fully manoeuvre in, meaning he was unable to have a substantial effect on the games he played in. Eriksson’s solution to this problem was to move Vassell into the forward role, after Roman Bednar’s unfulfilling stay, and it reaped rewards immediately. In the first game with the new lead striker the former Manchester City man found the net with a powerful volley which proved to be the winning goal over Nigel Pearson’s Hull City. Vassell played in the same position for the next Championship match and again he scored the winner, this time against high-flying Swansea City. Not only did this tactical change give the striker more licence to roam forward but it also resulted in the inclusion of Lloyd Dyer on the left wing, as Paul Gallagher was switched back to the right. The speedy winger helped Leicester get behind the opposition on more occasions, thus creating more chances. The Foxes were hitting top form as they reached the top half for the first time this season. The same match plan was implemented in the impeccable display against Manchester City in the FA Cup, which resulted in a 2-2 draw, meaning City had not lost since the former England man had been pushed further forward. It allowed Gallagher to whip balls in, Dyer to endeavour forward, Yuki Abe to break up play, Richie Wellens to deliver killer balls and Andy King to make those, now iconic, late bursts forward. Now however Eriksson has a though decision on his hands with Yakubu, a proven player at Premier League level, set to either replace the in-form Vassell or push him back into his previously ineffective role. If he was to be excluded from the starting eleven he would be left wondering what he has to do to keep his place while if he is returned to the right hand side either Gallagher or Dyer, both in impressive form, will have to drop back down to the bench. Of course Sven could revert back to 4-4-2, a formation he religiously used during his spell in charge of England, meaning Yakubu and Vassell can play together while both wingers will also keep their place. However the supreme midfield trio of Abe, King and Wellens will be disassembled. Supporters, wary of the Japanese man’s talents in the early days, have learned to love the small midfielder while King and Wellens have been fans favourites for the previous few years. Whatever decision Eriksson decides to take, it will have to be thought through expertly by him and his coaching team but over the previous months we’ve come to expect nothing less. cc_star Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Moot point for Saturday Vassell is out - So surely it's a straight swap for the Yak
Guest BlueBrett Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 With Berner at Left back it has to be Dyer, Gallagher has no pace, can't tackle and doesn't get stuck in not to mention he is not left footed, he is not going to beat his man and whip a cross in, he works well with Naughton down the right because Naughton provides the width and pace and creates the space for him. Berner is not going to do that. Harsh on Bruno after his Man City display but I've a feeling Mee will start at LB against Preston. I think Gallagher will start more often than not. There isn't much point in having big men like Bamba, Yakubu and even Mee loading the opposition penalty area at set pieces if you aren't going to play your best dead ball deliverer. Having said that I'm sure Abe could whip in a decent free-kick or corner so Dyer will still get a reasonable amount of game time. He's a great option to have on the bench anyway.
hackneyfox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Dyer can't cross a ball though, hence him being played on the wrong wing so that he cuts back in.
artursteppe Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gallagher or Dyer? Vassel and Parker ( either side of the Yak )!
hackneyfox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 I'd preferVassel and The Yak through the middle
artursteppe Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 I'd preferVassel and The Yak through the middle I probably would as well, but that would still necessitate ( I believe ) dropping either Gallagher or Dyer. We are light weight in midfield anyway so Abe and Wellens would both have to stay in. Only other option otherwise would be to drop King. Actually, maybe Abe, Wellens, King; Parker, Yukubu and Vassel would be nice in any formation!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gallagher will never be dropped by Sven, its so obvious he is what Beckham was for him under England. Will always play whether his last performance was good or bad. For me, on the ball, Gallagher doesnt contribute enough. But his corner delivery and free kick taking this calendar year so far have been very good, and caused a constant threat. Dyer is more of a threat on the ball, but always fades after the hour mark every game. Not sure who I'd have ahead of the other, it purely depends on the game and the formation we are playing, the team we are up against, etc. Whilst Vassell is out I hope we stick with the current formation and play them both on the wings with Yakubu up front.
anotherharboroughfox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 would rather Lloyd played, and Yuki took set pieces.
soley118 Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 dyer is more of an impact player than a starter id probrobly start with gally at this moment in time
brookfox Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gally everytime. He can cross, has natural ability, can shoot, set pieces are decent (most of the time). Dyer is wasteful, makes bad decisions, can't finish. Has pace and always gives 100% though, which are things he has over Gallagher. Do you think if Gally had pace and gave 100% he'd be playing for us. I'd go Gallagher with Lloyd as an impact sub. With Bernard at the club today as someone else said we may see Yak, Vass and Parker up top!
Corky Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Vassell and Yakubu should play down the middle, Dyer or Gallagher is a tough one. Dyer stretches the defence while Gallagher's delivery is better.
Thracian Posted 13 January 2011 Posted 13 January 2011 Gallagher's having more effect now than he used too and is our second top scorer with six goal so far which is reasonably good from a basically wide position. He's also had four assists in his 22 starts giving him an "effect"or sorts once in every 2.2 matches. Dyer has scored four times with two assists in 17 starts, virtually a 1 in 3 "effect". However it should be remembered that Gallagher takes the penalties and almost all the corners so those figures are considerably weighted and then there's the other factor - the one of pace - which Dyer brings to the game and Gallagher certainly doesn't. That pace enables us to make things happen against organised defences and is something we have lacked when we've done badly. To me that all suggests there's very little difference in their outfield effect so, if someone can take corners (Abe if there's defensive cover) and penalties (there are several) then it's reasonably sensible that both should be used, though not necesssarily at the same time. The great thing about Gallagher and Dyer is that they're excellent squad players anyway.
