Most pointless rule in football

I have just saw Piquionne sent of for a second booking because he was celebrating a goal with his own fans.Terrible law. Why aren't players allowed to enjoy scoring a goal with their own fans? Its terrible, there's no point in it. Especially sending a player off for it

Apparently the rules are based on health and safety. If you go over to the fans there's a chance someone will be crushed due to everyone jumping and crowding each other.

That's just what I've been told by a mate; I don't know the official words on it.

But I think it's a shit rule.

EDIT: Another shit rule - taking your shirt off and getting booked for it, especially when there are other offences which you can only get booked for.

I must be really boring 'cause the rule makes sense to me. Don't really wanna see some kid get crushed to death. Piqueonne deserved to go anyway, he knows the rules.

I'd say the booking for taking shirt off rule is pretty silly.

You into that then? ;)

I think the going off for 'treatment' and jogging back on literally two seconds later is a bit odd and pointless.

I was reading "You Are The Ref" in the Observer and former head ref Keith Hackett said that rule was because it could offend people in different countries that watch the global game. Removing the shirt that is. I always thought it was due to time wasting

lol

nothing wrong with a bit of flesh!

yes the treatment rule you mention is quite petty

What pisses me off is when you're making a sub and the player's taking their time. The ref adds on 30 seconds so in my eyes the player should be able to take 30 seconds to get off the pitch, rather than be rushed by the twat trying to control the game.

I don't understand why they can't do the time like rugby. Stop the clock when there's a stoppage. Resume it when play continues. That way, when it reaches 45/90 minutes, you know there's no fucking around with added time or time-wasting.

EDIT: Also, is there a specific, official rule for blowing the half-/full-time whistle when a team is on the attack? Or do referees just allow the attack to go on for the nature of the game and attempt to avoid controversy (despite the fact the other team would complain about the extra time).

Anyway, I played in a match once where we had a corner in stoppage time and as soon as it was taken, the ref blew the whistle for full time. In the end we hit the bar, but if we scored it wouldn't have been allowed.

Can't get me head around this one. Celebrations from Tevez and Johnson are more likely to cause a riot that a player jumping in the crowd. Hahha (I am laughing at the rule)...crush, jumping on everyone...I suggest we ban winners in the last ten minutes instead.

Yep, the other is drop balls. Why not just immediately re-start with a goal kick?

They have to wait until the ball's in play. Never understand it myself.

It was a while back, but in my referees course there was the unofficial notion of trying to ensure you blow for full time when the balls around the half way line.

But something I don't like, which isn't a rule as such, is a board going up showing how many minutes are left at the end of the 90. I liked not knowing how long you had left, so when you were holding on you just whistled endlessly and if you were desperate searching for an equaliser/winner you'd kept going but feared every whistle was your last.

And someone mentioned about the shirt off booking rule - I'm pretty sure Diego Forlan was to blame for this, after whipping his shirt off celebrating a goal he scored for Manchester United. He then spent the next two minutes running about with his shirt half off because he couldn't get it back on.

the no shirts off rule is everything that is wrong with "modern football" as it were, or more specifically in this country as I don't know, and I actually doubt whether this is the same on the continent.

Or if you're at Old Trafford or Anfield, you'd play on until the home side scores..

That doesn't happen quite so often these days.

He wasn't sent off for celebrating his goal, he was sent off for getting a second yellow card!

He know the rules and he arguably cost West Ham 2 points..............plonker.

I'd be well pissed off if I was a hammers fan.

The fact that it seems the assistants are not allowed to touch the ball, even if a corner is given and the ball is rolling in their direction they'll just let the ball go past them. Pathetic.

I'm more worried about the rules there are in the game that aren't enforced.

Obstruction, shirt tugging in the box etc etc

It's annoying because on the odd occasion they are used it seems like you've been hard done by.

Yeah some 'fouls' in the penalty area aren't given whereas anywhere else on the pitch they would almost certainly be free-kicks. Especially shoulder barges or the 2 you mention as well.

Players only take their shirts off to boost their own ego.

Piquionne knows the rules, it's (celebrating with fans) a bookable offence. He's a retard for doing it when he's already on a yellow, although I don't think players getting booked for celebrating with fans is right.

I'm about 99% certain it's a FIFA rule, not an FA rule. Makes sense if this reason for the rule is the case

Funny that - I remember running the line in a women's game and got told of for stopping or fetching the ball. Stupidity, although I imagine if a quick attach had come from my expert ball stopping skills then there may have been some complaints.

I'd never even heard of this rule, but now I do I can understand the reason for it.

I hate it when referees aren't consistent with the whole rule about goalkeepers coming off their lines for penalties, as well as players encroaching in to the area before the ball has been kicked from the penalty spot.

If you're gonna allow it to be retaken once, make the penalty be retaken again if the same thing happens on that retake!

The Multi-ball and Single-ball systems. Surely the same should be done throughout the Premiership and Football Leagues.

Also, if the shirt rule is to stop offending other people, surely being very pedantic, if the player had a thermal top on it would make no difference. :dunno:
