Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 He has never been "shit" for us, in fact far from it, a brilliant pro with a great attitude, can`t remember him ever making a cock up (Abe at Ipswich) that has cost us a goal and is an ideal player to bring on when we need to calm things down and see out a slender advantage, not only that he`s a really nice bloke to have around the club, oh, and I am NOT your friend, and as the saying goes, if my wife would swallow it would make my summer :-) He has, I'm sorry, but there are occaisions when I wonder what team he's playing for. I won't deny that he's got a fantastic attitude, and seems like a great pro to have in and around training, and old head to guide the younger team members, but seriously, in almost any appearance he made last season he was diabolical. You expect a player of Oakley's experience to be able to complete a basic pass, or put a simple challenge in, yet it never seemed to come to fruition. He may never have made an individual error that cost us a goal but I can all but guarantee a time he's misplaced a pass, and given possession away, or been caught woefully out of position, has resulted in a opposition goal. This notion that he can 'keep possession' is all a myth based on the majority of his recent showings. I can't fault his attitude, his application, or his committment to the club (I was chuffed when he signed during our doomed season), but, unfortunately, much like Steve Howard, his legs have long gone. I'd quite like to see him retained as a coach (or somethinmg similar) when his playing days are up, though.
Captain... Ideal player to bring on when we need to calm things down? Do you mean like when he came on against Preston, even on tuesday night his introduction hardly stemmed the flow of United attacks. You've also taken a throw away joke remark all too seriously. Can we be friends?
Little Nicky Posted 3 February 2011 Posted 3 February 2011 Absolutely over the moon with this, was gutted when Chrissy P left, If Hamann can pass on his wealth of knowledge to Kingy et al we could be on to a real winner!
Jimmy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Will he be registered as a player just in case ? no as the transfer window closed, if it happened monday he could have
funkyrobot Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Didi was a good intelligent footballer, I do hope however that he sticks to training footy and not gambling as he's not so good at that http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-1190180/Former-Newcastle-Liverpool-star-Dietmar-Hamann-chased-gambling-debt.html Still maybe him and former lcfc goalkeeping 'great' - casino jimmy neilsen can get together and lose loadsa cash together!
cc_star Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Will he be registered as a player just in case ? Nope, he is 37 - See Patrick Viera for details of why this wouldn't work.
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Nice bloke, hope he's on the training field for years to come. But the pitch? Some of you need to quit being so sentimental, he's complete past it. Last season he was diabolical and he's been rightly dropped this time out.
shailen Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Definately a coach here, but could do as decent cover if our midfielders + oakley get injured

The Doctor Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 no as the transfer window closed, if it happened monday he could have not sure about this - he's not a free agent as such but in playing terms since he wasn't already registered as a player for franchise this season he'd be classed as a free agent. I think.
StanSP Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Why is the question even being raised that he'll play?? He's been brought here solely as a coach - forget anything about back-up or cover for our midfield cos it just will not happen. He's a first team coach. End of.

I think. yes he was he was a player-coach and registered with them so it would be a transfer so he CAN'T play for us. I swear people on here can be thick or just choose to ignore the obvious
Petchy Posted 4 February 2011 Posted 4 February 2011 Just bumped into Hamann at Leicester train station! I was getting off of it as he was getting on, so shook his hand and wished him luck on the new job.
Asherz Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 like this alot.. ditty always came across a strong composed player... alot like sven manaes.. doesnt get all pent up and angry is nice and calm which i feel benefits the team better..love what sven is doing bringing in backroom staff with the same personality to keep progression going onwards ...carnt say he wasnt a class player either witht that experience lets hope he can pass it on to the other players.... i hate to say this but he is a brilliant coach on fm
themotivator Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TNb57ZNuWQ&NR=1 90% of the training will be this. looks like his taste for a screamer has already had an effect on the lads.
MC Prussian Posted 5 February 2011 Posted 5 February 2011 looks like his taste for a screamer has already had an effect on the lads. As seen today. LC Didi working his magic already.
