Ricey Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Can't say I'm surprised we've lost, at least other results were favorable. It's been a strange few weeks, despite winning I've found some of Svens decisions mildly frustrating/confusing. Dropping Weale to being in Ricardo, dropping Abe to bring in Oakley, dropping Oakley but not bringing in Abe, insisting on playing Vassell etc. I don't want to seem negative after one loss but I just can't understand these decisions. I'd like to think Weale and Abe will return on Saturday, but I'm confident they won't.
crisp monster Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 If we beat cov, I'd rather Leeds won at Swansea just to bunch things up a bit Am I alone on this one?

Corky Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Yes you are alone, we need to be as close to the team directly above us as possible.

I'd like to think Weale and Abe will return on Saturday, but I'm confident they won't. I thought he would make these changes for tonight's game. I thought Bruma could have worked, but obviously the whole team's performance was poor, so hard to judge how well he did really. I think we should go back to the team that served us so well at the turn of the year, Weale, Naughton, Bamba, Mee, Aarnolt, Abe, Wellens, King, Vassel, Yak, Gallagher. Whether he does that I really don't know as I was surprised he ever changed it. A convincing win against Cov though and the doom and gloom of tonight will be blown away!
Libertine Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Judging by 'popular opinion', Abe had been poor for a few games before he was dropped, so I can see why. Just a pity we have no great replacement.
ozleicester Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Just back in the hotel, disapointing game, very much like last Saturday, we seemed to short on ideas going forward, not enough width and our passing,( which has been the feature of the team this year ) was poor, we dont seem to be able to pass as sharply and accurately as we were a few weeks ago, i am wondering if the better sides have figured us out and we are breaking down in the finall third. Think we need Gally and Abe together agian and just to be a little sharper. Ive supported the choice of Ricardo... but the punch from the goal line tonight really was not good. All in all, as expected a tough game and a loss in Cardiff, beat Cov on sat.. and we back on track. Dont worry.. its gonna be alright :appl:
crisp monster Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 Yes you are alone, we need to be as close to the team directly above us as possible. Yes but what happens when we get above that team? The other one will be further away 2nd is not beyond us - it's still possible with the run in's that everyones got

cc_star Posted 22 February 2011 Posted 22 February 2011 A defeat at Cardiff doesn't mean we're out the running any more than a world-beating 45mins against a dreadful Derby side turns into Champions League winners within 2 years. It just shows we need to work very hard to be consistent, the players have to be on their game & Sven has to be on his game 100% of the time, defeats will happen, it's how we react to them that counts and the squad in its present form hasn't been tested by defeat yet so it's a bit of an unknown quantity going into the game against Cov. I do agree with whoever said some of our players are looking leggy, the midfield in particular, unfortunately despite a bazillion loan signings we don't really have options without changing the formation & i can't see that happening when everything had been going so well. But IMO Wellens needs a week off & Ricardo needs the rest of season off (this is not because I love Weale, because I don't, but he definitely looks a safer bet than Ricardo before both are replaced in the summer. *edit* Just saw the goals on SSN, poor defending by everyone for both by the looks of it. Bamba giving Chopra acres of space on the penalty spot for the first, and Naughton 'AWOL' for the 2nd (although the tape wasn't rewound enough to see why he was 'AWOL') followed up by no one marking again on the penalty spot, Mee tried to come across to get a block in, didn't see where Bamba was.

Agree! Need a good response Saturday to give us a good platform for QPR! Fancy our chances there more than Cardiff in my opinion
Jakemoore Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 Cardiff are a good side and they were at home so it was always gonna be tough, we can still do this, play off final come may LCFC
Filbert's Friend Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 Hardly disappointing to see us lose to one of the best sides in the league. Just bad to see us play so shite. For the first time since Sven took over, it just looked like we had given up after the second goal. But i don't think losing to Cardiff is really anything to worry about.

It just sounded lifeless on the radio. It definitely hurts our ambitions, looking back a point would have been fantastic.

Yeah I've just got home. It was all pretty half-hearted towards the end. Nobody chasing the ball or making an effort to create space etc. I don't mind losing as long as we battle hard. But I'm not happy with today. The one positive, yet again, is our brilliant away support

Kudos to you guys that went, didn't hear much noise on 5live though Onwards and upwards to Coventry I suppose

Im terrible at crowd judging.

No idea i'm afraid, i'm sure there were plenty of though. I think I remember Claridge complementing the support come to think of it. You couldn't hear much of anything apart from those two to be fair.
Ilkeston_Fox Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 Just got back, will do more of a report tomorrow. The important thing to note about tonight's experience - Cardiff City has the nicest toilet paper I've come across in a stadium. Bed.

Thracian Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 My relative Alex summed it up - we showed no pride. Who the hell said Cardiff if "a hard place to go". It's a hard place to come back from with all the sodding road closures but if Cardiff had any fans there tonight I didn't here em - not even from 50 yards away. The place might as well have been empty. I'd imagined there'd be a bit of atmosphere, a bit of banter, a bit of an undercurrent. It was like a tea party - all very genteel. And we just meekly surrendered. Our team was exposed for what it is. A mish-mash of individuals slung together at great expense to buy a place in the Premiership. And for all they cost us they couldn't be bothered to raise a gallop. Not even when we were 2-0 down did we show any urgency. PVA is supposed to be the new Ashley Cole but I wouldn't have wanted him in a lorry load of coal cos he wouldn't burn. The guy could easily have made an impact down our left but, apart from a great chance to score in the first few minutes, did he once sprint forward with a bit of attitutde? No. When he could be bothered at all it was at an amble. He wasn't the only one. In fact the only player I'd say comes out of tonight's performance with any credit was Bamba - simply because he did try, did get all over the park and did look cheesed off if he lost possession. But for all that the goals came right through the middle of his department. And was our dire performance down to Cardiff's billiance? Not at all. We passed the ball tidily enough for the first 25 minutes or so and might even have taken an early lead. But once they scored, all our teamwork and composure disappeared, heads dropped, people started playing as individuals, there was virtually no movement at all, no selfless running off the ball and, at no time, did we have numbers driving forward and attacking the box - not even when we might as well have throwwn everything at em in the last 15 minutes. Coaching? Motivation? We went in at half-time 1-0 down on the back of a reasonable performance. We came out looking as if we'd never played together at all and had no idea what we were trying to do. The two goals we conceded were pathetic. Schoolboy defensive lapses. I got the feeling it was Mee went awol on both occasions but it might as easily have been Bamba. Whatever we first allowed a free low cross from their right to arrive just behind our penalty spot where Chopra, totally unmarked,. had a tap in. Chopra! The sort of player whose record against us demands he is marked whenever he gets in our box. Next we allowed a free cross the their left to arrive at exactly the same place in the second half from which they Ramsey scored a near identical goal, again, with markers absent. I honestly wouldn't have wanted PVA in my non-League side cos I had better left-backs. People who tackled with tenacity, passed the ball accurately and raced forward with enthusiasm. I didn't see any of those things and what the hell Berner must be thinking I don't know. As for Ricardo he made two okay saves, made a fool of himself with a two-fisted clearance of a ball he could have caught easily and got nowhere near the goals. The chanting for Weale came quite early in the first half and the mood didn't change. People say we shouldn't make anything of it but we were exposed as pretenders tonight. We looked like a team of all-time losers. We didn't compete, we didn't have urgency and we didn't ever show we wanted to win enough. If we don't show the courage to have a go, to give Yakubu some support in numbers, to close opponents down quickly and to get some pace and some accuracy on the flanks and at full-back then we've got no chance of going up. Cos Cardiff were nothing special. They were there for the taking first half.
okie fox Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 The two goals we conceded were pathetic. Schoolboy defensive lapses. Yeah, i got the impression from the radio that we were easily undone for the goals. I know that Gallagher and Wellens weren't on their games, but wasn't taking them both off like throwing in the towel? Without them there is not much creativity in the side. Or are they both carrying knocks and Sven decided to rest them a bit before the Coventry game? It sounded like we didn't give it much of a go against against a weakened Cardiff team (no Bellamy, Chopra not fully fit). Conceding 2 cheap goals allowed Cardiff to take Copra off, go 4-5-1 and see the game out easily.
ACF Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 Can someone give me the lineup, atm all I've managed to figure out is Ricardo Naughton _______ __________ Van AanholtWellens _______ KingVassel Yakubu Gally
StanSP Posted 23 February 2011 Posted 23 February 2011 Bamba and Mee played at the back. Bruma replaced Abe/Oakley as the defensive mid. It didn't sound like it worked to its full effect, which is unfortunate really cos it altered the usual way we play (i.e. having a new person fill in that DM slot). Vassell didn't start though; Dyer started
