There were a fair few on here that didn't take to bnet's last thread about Sven but he does have a good pedigree of accuracy.

From Bentleys

I don't mind Oakley but i think after this season he doesn't really have much of a future at the club to be honest. A new contract is a bad idea i think. If true.

I know he doesn't have many fans on here, but I think he's a good squad player and should we fail to go up will be useful at some points next season.

I can't see him playing in the Prem for us, & I can't see him playing in 3 years for us. If this is true I'd stand firm on our offer

Get rid... Was a good player for us in League One but just not up to Championship standard, if we want to move forward as a team we have to let him go. He's been good for us not slating him on that at all but just want him to go now past it IMO!

I don't even think he would make a great coach, surely keeping him on our books when pushing for promotion next season (in all probabablity) isn't the greatest of moves.

Not a fan of Oakley - i will always cheer him on whilst he is a City player but a new contract . . . . . errm NO, get rid, he is dead wood now and offers us nothing - only a very short term stop gap player, sorry

I'd never boo a player, never chant rubbish or anything but if this story is true i'm actually lost for words... He is nothing more than a stop gap for a game if that, we have to be aiming for better nowadays i'm sorry but that's how i see it

I like Oakley, buty as a player he is clearly past it, nothing more than a squad player who can come off the bench for the last few minutes.

Not sure he warrants a new deal, certainly not more than a one tear extension.

I think he's taken some unfair stick over the past couple of years but he's not going to improve and we can do better.

Please no.

There is no reason to keep Howard and Oakley on, three and a half years watching them two and neither has performed in this league in three seasons. Ship them OUT.

Jesus wept.

I have stuck up for Oakley on here on numerous occasions but giving someone of his age a 3 year deal would be insanity.

There has GOT to be a younger player available at the end of the season who could improve if we want squad players....

I can only presume that Sven is preparing for life in the Championship,,,,

Oh feck off! C'mon this is an utter dogshit decision if true!

Best days are past him, has not shown any quality to deserve a 1 let alone 2 or 3 year deal, belongs in League 1 & only gets a game because of the system we play & lack of any other back up options.

How do you know he wouldn't make a good coach? You got to be inside the club to know that.

I reckon keep him on the books, he's a solid squad player and the most experieinced prem and champ player at the club. He could quite possibly be a good coach/mentor to the youngsters.

I agree Oakley is past his best. But running a football club involves looking at the bigger picture not just how a team performs on a saturday. Sven clearly is looking at the long-term strategies of the club, i.e. Bringing in...Dietmar Hamman, Stating that Chriss P could manage the club in the future etc. Someone like Oakley might be part of this.

Like i say it's hard to comment, without knowing the individual.

He needs to drop a league along with Howard to play to a good standard as he gets older.

I was expecting both to go to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

He was good when he came here especially in League 1. He's a nice bloke and someone good to have around for the younger players. Still, I think he is now not quite up to it and a 1 year deal is surely the better option. Btw, where are all the 'Sven can't do any wrong' parade now?

Eeeeesh. Don't want to see anything more than signing him up for next season tbh. Probably a great club captain at the training ground and can do a job as a squad player at this level but 2 years is not what we need and 3 is just ludicrous.

why do people always say another good one to have around the team etc.. same was said with howard..

thats what manager, coaches and his staff are for, we dont need to be giving all the older players longer contracts just because there nice guys..

he had a decent spell with us, hes earned his money, but now hes passed it and its time to let him go down a league or two....
