Why the **** did we sell Gradel?!

Because at the time he wasnt playing the style of football pearson wanted. i've always thought hes good wait for a few months will be saying the same about moussa a rate him he just needs to be playing all the time.

Because he wasn't showing any signs of fulfilling his potential. It wasn't right for him here, it was never going to happen. If he'd stayed he might had rotted away to obscurity in the reserves - who knows? He moved to Leeds and improved, fair play to him, he moved on and it worked out.

Now I suggest you do the same.

how can you say that .we will never know what would have happened if he had stayed unless you have a crystal ball. and the peaople on hear slagging off the person who started this thread he was only asking a question

I find it hilarious reading what some on here put. Yeh gradels gone, but the amount of people who slag a player off now they dont play for us. Gradel is quality, and id have him over vassell anyday.

Hobbs over anyone at centre back too

Unless I don't understand myself, that IS what I said?

Because Maxi didn't want to stay. He wasn't happy at not playing, so he wanted to leave. Is it really that difficult a concept to grasp?

Gradel was never than good for us - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Oh and Vassell has been very good these past few games.

I had no problems with him going at the time because he showed glimpses of what he could do so rarely.

However, I can't help but feel he'd absolutely thrive in our current system at the moment. Looking back it's disappointing that we sold him, but it was almost certainly the right thing to do at the time.

This is what people don't seem to grasp. And I have no clue why, yeah he showed some raw talent, but nothing concrete. I'd be willing to bet a very small percentage were against it at the time.

Out of interest, anyone know if there was a thread about his release? I assume there was but I'm to busy lazy to search.

The reactions oh the thread were mainly "meh, too inconsistant etc. With a few people crying about how their baby had left them for Leeds :P

Scratch that, I found one if anyone wants a 54 page thread read.

Wasn't on here back then so it'll be interesting to read some views.

The lad was inconsistent, but he was worth a place on the bench and that was peoples main gripe from memory. Even when he was at Leeds last season he wasn't first choice and was only really producing some cameos towards the end of games.

Look back at their forums and even Leeds fans had mixed opinions of him. Their gripes were the same as the ones we had about him "too inconsistent", "No final ball" etc.

The lad has come on leaps and bounds and fair play to him, I wish he'd been given more of a chance but it was hard to argue too much with what Pearson had done, and was doing for us as the time.

The only thing that pisses me off is that he's at Leeds as I hate them with a passion.

True say.

What you've said summarises my feelings about the issue. Alright some people may have rated him but there wouldn't be many suggesting a year later he'll be on his way to 20 goals this season and possibly playing in the prem next. He's had a fantastic 18 months which would more than likely have excelled the expectations of most.

Turns out it was a mistake but who's to say he'd have progressed the same here? Anyway, it's been done to death so that's all i'll say for now.

It was said loud enough that he would score goals and for a long time. The lad scored in something like 16 successive games on his way through and it was obvious he would score goals. Sixteen Championship goals in a season for a winger who doesn't normally take penalties or free kicks! I wouldn't think all our wingers combined have managed that from mostly open play over the last five years.

People who take players on do make mistakes. Vassell makes stacks of mistakes and, unfortunately, doesn't seem to score many goals. Steve Heighway at Liverpool used to trip over his feet all afternoon but he was effective because he constantly asked questions of defenders and forced them to make mistakes or to commit extra people to cope with him. In our most successful and entertaining heyday we had any number of wingers who did what Gradel does - and they all ran into defenders and fluffed crosses or shots.

Pearson had his dour way of playing and wouldn't, not couldn't, accommodate him. Pearson is just a poor man's George Graham - an ex-defender who never suggests to me that he really gives a shit about entertaining the fans but would happily grind out a season of draws or narrow victories if it achieved his ends. It was even apparent in the second half of our promotion season when some of our football was dire.

I've no objection to what Sven has done with Schlupp but it's a convenience really. The kid's consistently dangerous and could easily have been introduced straight to our first team off the bench especially with the run of results we've been having.

In fact our team has been pleading for an injection of his sort of pace, strength and energy, and not just this season, but for years.

Although I agree with the majority of what you've said, you can't fault Pearson's style of play if the outcome is successful.

Football's a result based business and as "dour" as Pearson may of been, it was consistent and got us promoted and into a play off position in two consecutive years.

I'd guess you'd give up supporting Leicester if Tony Pulis ever became our manager. :D

It is regretful that Pearson was in charge when Gradel was coming through, but again hindsight plays a big part. We may not have seen the emergence of King in league 1 had we had a different manager at the time. I'd take Gradel over Vassell any day of the week but I accept that he's gone and it was a rare mistake to let him leave.

Schlupp, I would love to see before the end of the season. Do you know when his loan runs 'tiil? It says a month on Wikipedia but....you know. And they'll have the option to extend. But yeah, I think a couple of sub appearances or maybe even a start could do a huge amount for his confidence and development going into next season. The pressure may be off going into the last few games and it'll make much more sense introducing him now rather than a crucial start to next season.

Max Gradel has won both the Players' Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Year awards at Elland Road.

The 23-year-old Ivorian has scored 17 goals in 43 appearances in his first full season for Leeds and was also called up into the senior Ivory Coast squad for the first time.

Gradel initially arrived at Leeds on loan from Leicester in October 2009, with the move made permanent for an undisclosed fee in January 2010.

I think he'd have been brilliant for us if he had been here under Sven but he wasn't and his time here is in the past. Shame but that's football.

Because Pearson thought players like Matt Oakley and Nolberto Solano were safer options. Young Maxi was too much of a 'risk' to have in the team for a keep it safe and hold what you have manager such as Pearson.

As good as he was he seemed to despise anything that was remotely enterprising in the way the team played.
