Jimmy Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 Westwood - out of contract Naughton Bamba Vitor Mee Gallagher Wellens King Kebe Marlon King - out of contract Earnshaw - out of contract we won't be getting Naughton or Vitor back next season and I don't think that midfield would be any good either and I really don't want Marlon king
Cropwellfox Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 Whatever the starting XI, the key thing for any team next season for us is balance - whether that's youth and experience, pretty and horrible, pace and guile. That's what ultimately cost us this season, and nearly worked last. The teams who've been successful in the championship have more often than not attended to this successfully - for every Taarabt there's a Derry, for Koren a Mulumbu, for Matt Jarvis a Craddock and so it goes on. Pearson had this so nearly right - for all the stick they took last season, having Brown, Oakley and Howard, and of course Bruno playing more often than not gave us the guile and experience, which was augmented by Waggy's enthusiasm,King's unknown quantity status and the spark that Spearing and Vaughan brought in towards the end of the season. Compare that with our fading season this year - particulaly a back four with barely any experience of championship football, all but Bamba eligible for U21 honours. Sure, getting in players in January with championship experience was never going to be easy to do, but I can't help wonder what might have been had, for example Liegertwood was added to bolster the midfield trio. He in particular has made a huge difference to Reading - so I don't buy the fact that you cannot get players from championship clubs who would make a difference during the season. So with thoughts turning to next season, that means for me an experienced keeper to be a clear No1 choice, at least 1 centre back who has played in this division for a few years, a couple of nasty midfielders, and at least one centre forward who has been round for a bit. Names like Joe Murphy, David Nugent, Nick Montgomery, Sean St.Ledger come to mind. I just hope some of the players brought in are of this stock, and we're not speculating on how well a series of players from foreign clubs or loanees will settle in.

ithuriel Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 Have'nt a clue, there have been that many changes this season that apart from King, Wellens, Vassel and Gallagher i can not name a leicester owned first team player that plays almost every game.
SPF07 Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 We could do alot worse than Marlon King and Danny Graham up front. Mee and Vitor centre backs with Bamba defensive midfield would tighten things at the back. Westwood in goal. End of story, Champions.......

You feeling alright? Bamba? Wellens? King? Gally? Vassell? Weale? Abe?
ithuriel Posted 24 April 2011 Posted 24 April 2011 You feeling alright? Bamba? Wellens? King? Gally? Vassell? Weale? Abe? you obviously did not read my post thoroughly even though it was very short bamba has missed a few games and abe keeps getting ,.....rested, too, the others i mentioned and weale can not be described as our first team GK anymore since he has had spells alongside 4 other goalkeepers, 5 goalkeepers for the season is quite impressive, wonder what the record is
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 IF Leeds go up, throw a bit of cash at them for Becchio. Signed a new deal not long back, but is class at this level and knows what he's doing. £1.5 - 2 million for that proven striker we've been craving so badly.

If they went up, would he want to drop back to the Championship ? He's a good player though !

Narborough Bod Posted 25 April 2011 Posted 25 April 2011 Joe Lewis Cunningham Dunne Bamba Naughton Dyer / Vassell Olifinjana Wellens Bullard Graham Kamara Whilst I can't see us having Naughton back, as Premier League newcomers circle, he'd be my first choice. Someone like Dunne, big and experience, would help Bamba and then I'd feel more secure with 2 young full backs - who lets face it, will be bought for pace and attacking ability rather than defensive capabilities. Would still like to see Hobbs as I'm sure he can do a job. I may have imagined it, but I was sure that I heard Sven being interviewed saying that his favoured formation was 4-4-2, but we don't have the midfielders to be able to do this. So i'd want Olifinjana in the middle to give Wellens freedom. Bullard...possibly a big time charlie, but why we didn't go for him I'll never know. Put him in a team with a good strong defensive midfielder (he could even play CM if we got a good right winger) and watch him flourish like he did at Wigan, with Kavanagh next to him. Would also love to see Kebe here but think Reading will make the PL. I believe that Dyer / Vassell could easily operate together with one playing 60 mins and busting a gut, followed by the other as a 30 min impact sub. Then up front...Graham has proven he can do it in this league, is big and strong, and would be prepared to give Kamara more time as he seems to work harder off the ball then the fat one. Wouldn't have an issue going for Chopra either. If cardiff make it up, Bothroyd and Bellamy (if he stays) are bound to be followed by other forwards so Chopra may become available. A cock, he is, but a decent goalscoring cock at our level.
