Darkon84 Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 We already have Waghorn, who is basically the same player as Hume
Guy Posted 5 May 2011 Author Posted 5 May 2011 We already have Waghorn, who is basically the same player as Hume True enough, although as I've virtually been saying all along that we need more of his type. Waghorn has been injured for the past few games too....so having back up in the shape of players like Hume would be a good idea for next season should the same thing happen again. As for writing Hume off because of his age, well as I said, we're still Championship, not Premiership.....! Then again maybe Hume would prefer playing League 1 footie rather than twiddling his thumbs on the bench for 50 % of the time next season were he to be snapped up by Sven.......
Guy Posted 9 May 2011 Author Posted 9 May 2011 Dare I say another quality goal from Hume at the weekend and Preston's player of the season, even if they finished three from bottom in the end.....
SMX11 Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Dare I say another quality goal from Hume at the weekend and Preston's player of the season, even if they finished three from bottom in the end..... How many goals has he scored this season? The Yak must have more than him he has only been here a few months.
Corky Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Dare I say another quality goal from Hume at the weekend and Preston's player of the season, even if they finished three from bottom in the end..... Pretty much the same as Gallagher's at Watford earlier this season.
Guy Posted 10 May 2011 Author Posted 10 May 2011 I get your sarcastic drifts but unless I'm blind or stupid I think Hume easily got into double figures last season when scoring for PNE.....and I don't mean 2! Although it appears Sven and Fazackerley don't look beyond getting anything lower than Premier league dropouts or untried youngsters all on loan, I think Hume would be a logical player to snap up for the squad next season if this so called massive summer rebuilding programme is to take place soon and we end up losing over half of our current playing squad! After all Hume and Yakubu up front would probably work well together at times next season IMO. I suspect though that Hume may think he's found his new level if he's to help PNE bounce back next season from League One.......time may tell.
Jimmy Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 Hume was average at best 1st time around and ran away saying he was too big to play League 1 when we got relegated, he'd lose the ball trying to take on the world chase back to right back and leave Steve Howard completely isolated upfront alone, when asked to play wide he sulked. we're well rid of him and re-signing him would be a backward step
Samilktray Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 IF we were to sign this chump we may aswell all go home now.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 IF we were to sign this chump we may aswell all go home now. very harsh... Hume was not a bad player for City..nothing special but I've seen much worse down here. I wouldnt re-sign him though cos there are better options available (eg. Kamara)

Last game of the season we brought Kamara off the bench. Twice the player of Hume. We then have Howard, Waghorn and Schlupp in reserve. Hume is nothing like Kevin Phillips!! Phillips is a natural goalscorer and has scored goals all his career. He doesn't run round like a headless chicken and he can finish. Hume is a 1 in 3/4 games striker, favoured because of his tireless running. Also ****ed off when we got relegated. He'd be an awful signing! Awful!

Back then money was tight and we were restricted as to who we could bring in. He's been here before and we don't need him back.

There's no denying Kamara's quality but don't forget he is/was only a loanee - will we be able to sign him in the summer? - or will it even be an option? The same goes for Yakubu. Looking at Fulham in their last two games, it looks as if they need Kamara back now! Re Kevin Phillips, you missed or misunderstood my point concerning him. I was only meaning Kevin Phillips being a squad player at Brum still - much like I was meaning Hume could be just that for us next season when perhaps coming off the bench more times than actually starting. I was not comparing Hume to Phillips because as you rightly said, they are contrasting players with contrasting experiences too.
Steven Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 I was just reading up on a thread that mentioned our season being three years ago to this day when we were relegated to League One after the Stoke game - where Iain Hume kept getting mentioned quite a lot . Although he was part of the only City side to be relegated to the depths of the english football would people want to see him return for a second spell at City? He's done well at Preston this season - and appears to bear the unlucky tag as he got relegated with them, although I suspect he was still on loan to them from Barnsley all along. Do people on here think he would still cut it in the present city set up or would he not appeal to Sven and his "quality passing side" any longer. I always rated him despite some of the deadwood he had to play with when at city first time around....and the fact that he was effectively possibly more suited to playing in a kick and rush City side for the three or so years he was with us for....... Read the signature. You are one of those fans.
Guy Posted 10 May 2011 Author Posted 10 May 2011 Read the signature. You are one of those fans. Not at all, I just like what's best for City overall and always look at the bigger picture. If I didn't feel that way then I may as well go and start following cricket or tiddlywinks instead maybe! I am no bigger a fan of Iain Hume as I am of any other present City player! - and was pissed off when he equalised against us in the 90th minute at Deepdale! Some have bemoaned Hume for ****ing off in 2008 after we were relegated from the Championship but then so did the likes of Gareth MacAuley too! - as they were too good for League One at the time. Savage and latterly Dickov did the same when we were relegated from the Premiership in 2002 and then last in 2004 - it's just part of the cycle. One of the players who didn't and stuck about quite admirably was Izzet but he was a big exception to the rule!
The Padster Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 I just like what's best for City I also like whats best for City, and Hume ain't it. You've been flogging this donkey for the past 6 days, I'm pretty sure it's dead now. Let it go.

BoneDog Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 He's had a decent season for Preston, think he's got a goal every 2 games or similar, so he can definitely still hold his own in this league. It would feel like a step backwards though if we re-signed him after some of the players we attracted this season. There's bigger fish to buy.

You're completely entitled to your opinion on who we should/could sign but I would be extremely dissapointed if we signed Hume, even as a squad player. I don't think it's just the fact that I don't think he's good enough for us (would much rather Waghorn coming on and I'm not a big fan) but I also think it would give us that feeling that we're taking a step back. It wouldn't fit in with the fresh, positive, forward thinking ethos we seem to have created. Despite falling quite a long way short of the playoffs in the end, the optimism is pretty high amongst a lot of fans and it's because people sense we're moving forward and going somewhere. Signing Hume would contradict that. Would you not rather have Schlupp, a young, and hungry product from our own academy on the bench than an ex player who didn't score enough goals first time round?! If you don't, you're mental!

If you don't, you're mental! Well I've been called worse things than mental in my time! Schlupp is definitely one for the future, don't get me wrong and I can't see him remaining out on loan at Brentford now. Hopefully Sven will blood him next season and he can do a good job upfront with Waghorn and maybe Howard if he is staying on over the summer. I suppose Yakubu signing is still pending but I'd be surprised if he didn't stay now. I was just meaning Hume as a squad player and don't get people's negativity on here towards such a proposition but as you said, it's only opinions, Sven's are the ones that are valid!. Nobody complained when Dickov returned for us in League One but I sense the general argument here is that we are going forwards, not treading water or going backwards. One can hope.......!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 Loved him but that doesn't mean i would have him back.
hbkkids Posted 19 January 2012 Posted 19 January 2012 Much better than wellens, would not mind him back
