Guy Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 I was just reading up on a thread that mentioned our season being three years ago to this day when we were relegated to League One after the Stoke game - where Iain Hume kept getting mentioned quite a lot . Although he was part of the only City side to be relegated to the depths of the english football would people want to see him return for a second spell at City? He's done well at Preston this season - and appears to bear the unlucky tag as he got relegated with them, although I suspect he was still on loan to them from Barnsley all along. Do people on here think he would still cut it in the present city set up or would he not appeal to Sven and his "quality passing side" any longer. I always rated him despite some of the deadwood he had to play with when at city first time around....and the fact that he was effectively possibly more suited to playing in a kick and rush City side for the three or so years he was with us for.......
Ashley Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 No thankyou. Just because he ran around like a headless chicken people loved him off, seems that's all you can do to be loved by our fans, Hume was the best of the bad bunch during his time here nothing special what so ever.
marko Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 No, best of a bad bunch in my opinion. Think we can do a lot better now.
Callabinho Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 no.........id rather have the yak who scores goals, then hume who just bombs around like a headless chicken!
Wymsey Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Has the pace we need but didn't convert many of his chances he had.
AdamN Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Iain Hume is like the tip of a massive dump you've just taken that's sticking above the water. In a way, that bit that sticks out makes you feel like it's something to be proud of, but at the end of the day, it's still just a huge lump of shit.

DB11 Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 He'd be awful now. Saying that, he looked better than Fryatt at the time
Ford Super Sunday Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 There is a reason Iain Hume was loaned out from the mighty Barnsley to the bottom team in the NPC, Preston. No.
Fox92 Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 No thanks, he was the best of a bad bunch. Plus he jumped ship when we got relegated, so I'm glad he's in League 1 now.
Guy Posted 4 May 2011 Author Posted 4 May 2011 Hmmm. Something tells me that this would be the the Paul Dickov syndrome all over again if Hume were to return and his return doesn't sound as if it would be particularly well heralded by most on here! Stranger things have happened though I suppose.....although I think the club has now moved on from just getting in squad players and using them accordingly a la Paul Dickov second time around by Pearson! Hume was always pacy and engineered quite a lot of his own chances which resulted in some classic goals - hence his popularity amongst supporters at whatever club he's represented, ours included. Hume didn't hesitate to latch onto through balls and the like either in the way some of our forwards now do when trying to score the prefect goal- Yakubu springs to mind, even though I still think we should sign him over the summer. Although Hume did miss as many as he scored, a lot of strikers are guilty of doing that! While Marlon King has been mentoned just lately, I wouldn't be shocked if Hume did make a return.....although maybe I'm just wearing rose tinted specs.!
Guest shearfox Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Average championship player at best, he always was. Just look at what he has achieved since leaving, nothing special we need alot better if we want to play in the prem anytime soon.
Darkon84 Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Seemed like a nice guy and put effort in (in terms of running around and chasing down), but never had the end product. We can do alot better now, so its a NO from me. All the best to him though
hackneyfox Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 NO!!!! The coont got us relegated with that appalling penalty. He isn't a striker, winger or midfielder.
Guest Bilo Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 No thanks. He wouldn't fit in to our set-up at all under Sven.
Libertine Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Bloody hell!!! When did Hume leave us?? So it was you chanting 'HUUUUUUUUUUUUME' all along, rather than people booing the Yak?
Guy Posted 4 May 2011 Author Posted 4 May 2011 While I was never saying Hume was the best thing in the Championship since sliced bread since leaving City, I personally think he would now be a worthy addition as a squad player to call on next season if he were to be a free agent over the coming summer if released by Barnsley or Preston. His penalty miss against Sheff.Wed. was none too clever I know that was instrumental in us getting relegated the following week but he's still no Kermogant (Kermit the Frog!).... People have said "what's he done since?" and say he's not the sort of player we should be encouraging back to the club if we are to have genuine promotion aspirations next season but he's not played outside (any lower) than the Championship in the three years since he left us so surely he would fit in in some way, shape or form with his on going Championship experience that he's still gained in three years since he was at City - even if 50% of the time it is to keep the bench warm next season! He looked quite impressive upfront for Preston from what I saw but maybe I remain in a minoroty here........
Libertine Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Better off with Big Daddy V I think. Good work rate himself and a better finisher.
Karljohn Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 He does everything but score. Agreed although he has been known to get the odd last minute leveller for Preston.
Corky Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 If this is the sort of player we're looking for now we won't get very far.
gavboc Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Hume and the rest of that squad are best forgotten in my opinion, Oakley and Howard have had better times since but it's now time for them to move on also and I'm not going to label Kingy as part of that god awful era. Here's an idea lets actually sign a quality striker at this level than just reminisce about players past such as Gradel, Hume, and Fryatt their all gone for good now and Max may only be a flash in the pan at Leeds let's see if he can re produce next term when people know what he's all about. Hume enjoy league 1 pal maybe you can continue to miss penalties against Wednesday in crucial games for Preston now.
