Cardiff or Swansea in the Premier League

And the Faroe Islands aren't, as far as I'm aware, regularly teaming up with Denmark and Greenland to play in the same shirt and under the same flag at the Olympic games?

The Faroe Islands compete in the biannual Island Games, which were hosted by the islands in 1989. 10 football teams contest the Faroe Islands Premier League, currently ranked 50th by UEFA's League coefficient. The Faroe Islands are a full member of UEFA and the Faroe Islands national football team competes in the UEFA European Football Championship. The Faroe Islands are also a full member of FIFA and therefore the Faroe Islands football team, managed by Irish manager Brian Kerr, also competes in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Faroe Islands compete in the Paralympics, but have yet to make an appearance in the Olympics, where they compete as part of Denmark.

Edit: Just like to add, however, that that's taking things off on something of a tangent - I'm not actually saying that I'm either pro or anti the British Olympic side. I'm just explaining that Scotland and Wales' reason for not participating is concerns over their sovereignty in the eyes of FIFA and not some issue of anti-English or anti-Britishness.

I never meant to imply you were.

As an aside the British National Anthem i.e God Save the Queen is an absolute horrible dirge and completely out of context with a modern Britain and deserves to be booed by everyone especially when it's played as a representation of English Teams. We need a separate more appropriate English Anthem.

I'm sure there are several variations but there's hardly a single line in it that is ok with me.

God save our gracious Queen,

Long live our noble Queen,

God save the Queen:

Send her victorious,

Happy and glorious,

Long to reign over us:

God save the Queen.

O Lord, our God, arise,

Scatter her enemies,

And make them fall.

Confound their politics,

Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On thee our hopes we fix:

God save the Queen.

Thy choicest gifts in store,

On her be pleased to pour;

Long may she reign:

May she defend our laws,

And ever give us cause

To sing with heart and voice

God save the Queen

From every latent foe,

From the assassins blow,

God save the Queen!

O'er her thine arm extend,

For Britain's sake defend,

Our mother, prince, and friend,

God save the Queen!

sorry for the hi-jack but I hate it!

I've got to say I'm equally shocked that English people would mock God Save the Queen.

It's the anthem of the union and should be respected by all union states.

I agree that when England play sport we should have a separate anthem, and God Save the Queen be kept for British occasions.

I am guessing that many of you with very liberal attitudes towards the anthems and their mockery / abuse are younger than me.

Anyway it' s a side issue made to point out that Welsh football fans pick up / put down English football as it suits them.

davieG is probably older than you. He's just not some right wing knuckledragger.

And davie, you missed the best verse!

Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,

May by thy mighty aid,

Victory bring.

May he sedition hush,

and like a torrent rush,

Rebellious Scots to crush,

God save the King.

**** me.

Cardiff are bunch of wankers so Swansea to go up.

If Welsh teams want to ply their trade in england then they should abide by English rules.

God save the Queen is absolute gash. Rule Britannia would be much better.

Mack- why should the union states respect GSTQ? It is the anthem of the oppressor after all.

I have a debate with anyone, but people who can only have a discussion whilst throwing around lame abuse can jog on.

Go and spit your petty put downs at someone who gives a ****. May I add people who have no legitimate basis for their argument just spout abuse..

I wont be bullied by you or any other ****er.

Now I'll leave this thread for the kiddies as I see no debate of value here at all.

Here's hoping this issue gets resolved by the authorities, although given the recent record of the English FA in dealing with anything of any importance I would doubt it.

Let them pull out of the FA cup in favour of the Welsh cup, and use it as an excuse to send them to the League of Wales for hum dinger derbies with the likes of Port Talbot Town.

I couldn't be arsed to look for it, I can't think of a redeeming feature of it, awful music and even worst words. As for political leanings neither left or right and with an equal dislike for party politics, oh and an oldiethumbsup.gif

For a further thread hi-jack, what do all of us GSTQ haters propose as the best alternative?

Personally I would love to have Land of Hope and Glory, think that's a song that genuinely gets the goosebumps going and has superb lyrics.

It seems Rule Britannia and Jerusalem are two of the most oft-suggested others...

Mind you, pretty much anything would be better than what we have now!

No fan of the Welsh and hate Florest so im hanging my hopes on Reading !!

As for this debate i think its run its course, both have been part of this system for years and i dont even see a slight problem anymore. If Cardiff or Swansea go up (hope they dont !) they will deserve their place.

Christ, with our totally bullshit national anthem I find it pretty hard not to boo it myself if I'm there when it's being performed...

Well said. The melody is nicked from the Swiss (I think) and is about as uninspiring as it gets.

Her maj looked well awkward when everyone in the Abbey was singing it at her the other week.

Jerusalem for England please (yeah, I know it's about Jeebus but it's still pretty stirring stuff).

lol yeah alright. I forgot, when you call us inbreds that's banter - when I call you a knuckledrugger that's hardcore abuse.

I sincerely don't understand your objection against Cardiff or Swansea getting promoted. You should maybe seek a legitimate basis for your own argument. It's ironic that you resort to calling people on here 'kiddies' when leaving a discussion over frustration of not getting support for your views can be viewed as childish.

I was absolutely disgusted and enraged at the manner in which God save the Queen was treated at the hands of Welsh fans during the Wales vs England game, meanwhile we let the Welsh club sides ply their wares in our leagues.

I get the impression from the rows that have been ongoing over a GB football team for next year's Olympic games that the Welsh and Scottish FA have a chip on their shoulders.

Yes, because if it was the other way round you'd respect the anthem of a nation that invaded your own and tried to incorporate all of your history into it's own.

As sosban says, it is concievable that if scotland & wales were to agree to a GB team for the olympics could weaken our position as members of fifa despite, in soverign terms, being part of england and why, when we & wales have a rich heritige in the sport, would we risk throwing all that away to be the slightest part of a GB olympic team when we'd have no more than 3/4 representatives between the both of us?

My view is that Cardiff and Swansea (Wrexham too before relegation), should never have been asked to join the football league. The standard in Wales is shite??? Not the English football leagues problem. To those who disagree with this........... why not ask Rangers and Celtic to join the party?

Land of Hope and Glory is a cracking shout.

I'm on my phone so can't link it here but look for it at the Last Night of the Proms on YouTube and imagine that being sung by 90,000 at Wembley.

Don't really care about the whole Welsh/English debate, and don't give two ****s about who goes up. Leicester is the only thing that matters to me :scarf:

England and Scotland were invading each other for centuries, however, as you must know, the act of union was not forced upon Scotland at all, so you have got nothing to complain about .
