The Gauge

I've been pretty quiet since the season ended. There's not much to do except speculate wildly and maybe I'm a bit long in the tooth to get involved (though I'm not above stirring it up.) There's enough names have their own threads in the transfers forum to build two teams for next season, but none of, absolutely none of it, seems to have any real shred of "Leicester's-worst-kept-secret" that we know to be an almost cert of a deal.

It's been exciting times since Sven arrived with some quality loan signing and the ability to attract players who might not otherwise come here. Top and our conglomerate of owners, seem to have BIG plans for the club, but...

We've not actually seen the cash splashed. Wages, yes... but signings? In truth, we don't know what to expect - the only two permanent signings of Sven are Vassell on a free and Bamba for £250,000 (maybe, it was undisclosed.) (Let's leave Ricardo best forgotten.)

So the next signing... well I'm nervous/excited. I have a feeling of trepidation. The next signing means a lot to me. I'm going to see it as The Gauge to our ambition and I think a lot of other people will too. But is that right? Why should Sven have to buy a stand out player first? Maybe he'll come across a good back-up player at a knockdown price (and we DO need good back-up players) and strike while the iron is hot, ahead of his first major signing. Yet, if he does that, how many hearts will drop in the City faithful as we think, "same-old-same-old?"

A £3m prem drop out? A £1 million Championship potential developer? A £500,000 Lower Leaguer with potential? Trawling the Blue Square North?

The specualtion is hurting now. PLEASE SVEN, MAKE IT GO AWAY! Give us The Gauge to set our hopes and fears for next season by.

:sge:

Does anyone feel the same?

Total agree with you mate, im constantly checking the internet and radio to see if theres been any signings. Its still early and for some teams in England the season only just finished over a week ago, so there still assessing the situation of there squads.

I'll wait until the end of this month tbh before I panic about whether we've signed anyone and a player/s that will give us more strength. Shame said we have 'unlimited' funds as it's probably likely now agents may want more money etc regarding any transfers. :frusty:

I suspect sven has already got deals in place but the club can't announce anything till july 1st. getting players on a free transfer normally means the clubs they're playing for don't want them so why should we be rushing to get them

I`d rather wait for quality over quanity! far too many season`s gone by where we have signed too many players and poor quality I would much rather wait and take 3-4 players of real quality that will take us where we need to be! besides a lot of players are gonna be on hols at the moment, so would expect things just to be warming up for next week or 2!

Totally agree mate, the suspension is killing me!

This comment made me giggle :giggle: For some reason just got of visions of you riding over speed bumps in an old banger. Im guessing you mean suspense :P God its been a long day.

So it looks like Nugent is going to be The Gauge.

A freebie.

Not getting carried away, but Bert's post in the Nugent transfer thread that a freebie might free up money for Yaks wages gives me some pause for thought.

Nugent and Yak.

Just possibly.

sven should sign the entire squad of some place like the Ivory Coast, or Paraguay. Probably wouldn't cost that much, fairly decent quality, they'd already have experience playing together and the respective national football association would possibly pay out for us helping to strengthen their squad. :D

I'll be more excited by a quantity of good players rather than a big signing, with the exception of the Yak of course. Competition for places will set out our ethos from the first match, although it needs to be in place as early as possible. I'm not worried about the inevitable high turnover of players personally.

I am completaley relaxed.... :D

If we don't get another new player we still fight for promotion. We have enough players as it is. lol

GK

Weale and the one from the Academy

Defenders

Berner, Tunchev, Bamba, Hobbs, Moore, Parkes

Midfield

Moreno, Oakley, Moussa, Abe, Wellens, King, Dyer

Strikers

Waghorn, Schlupp, Vassell

A shoestring budget and win the league with Sven as manager. The only thing that could make all fans happy.

A mate of mine came up with this theory...

Sven, in his ultimate wisdom, has many irons in the fire - this much we all assume and will never really know the full extent of...

This is the bit I liked:

Sven and Top are waiting for the Premiership clubs to finish, or at least come close to, their business for the pre-season.

When the Premiership managers know what they have been able to bring in, they will know who in their team is surplus to requirements.

Sven will then scrape the "cream" out of the Premiership's unwanted.

City may end up with more "Yaks" than a Mongolian millionaire, but we may get a few Kamaras??? Or even better, a Naughton???

Just a theory...

that team wouldn't fight for promotion. it'd fight to score a goal every game.

And logan - we could probably do with a competent keeper for next season though.

Similarly in defence there we have 1 left back, no right backs & as far as I'm aware we haven't extended tunchev's contract yet.

I disagree, as a lot of posters have pointed out the one and only thing matters is confidence and if we don't get any new players Sven and Grip will fill thoose poor players with so much confidence even Waggy will score.

Utter nonsense

Unless Sven has changed from his England days I expect he is on holiday on someone's yacht and not in a position or mindset to allay posters' concerns at this time
