drc Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 It seemed so important for the owners to have so called big name signings in january. Do you think Sven have convinced them that that's not the way to go, or have they realised it's too expensive and too har to get them ? Of course it is much better that we don't sign an expensive "has been" big name even if it's cool to have them in your team. Most of the players we'we been linked with this transfer window has been reasonble targets, good foorballers that probably will improve the team but no one apart from maybe Yakubu is a "Big name signing".
Jon the Hat Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Maybe,. just maybe, big names want to play in the Premiership, and will only consider the championship when it is clear they don't have a choice, i.e. at the end of the transfer window.
millzi Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 It doesn't bother me to be honest whether the names are big or not. I want players that will work well together and will improve the team as a whole.
Ric Flair Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Maybe,. just maybe, big names want to play in the Premiership, and will only consider the championship when it is clear they don't have a choice, i.e. at the end of the transfer window. As per usual John, bang on. Unless we're willing to trouser £50,000 a week for the likes of Yakubu or Kevin Nolan the players of that ilk will wait and see what's about before dropping down a division and taking a pay cut.
Darkon84 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Who cares if they are 'big name' or not. As long as they do a good job, I'll be chuffed
Swampdog Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Clearly we all know that a big name signing would primarily act more as a marketing ploy in Asia more then anything. Sure it's possible to bring in big names but only those at the end of their career really as every other big name wants to be in the prem.
drc Posted 27 June 2011 Author Posted 27 June 2011 my point is that it is good that Sven doesn't seem to have the pressure anymore to get a Big Name who could be extremly expensive just to get the owners happy. I would welcome a big-name-signing who is expensive if he would score goals for fun and would be working har dor the team but I don't think that too many of them are available for Leicester.

cc_star Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 I'm over the moon with our targets, all of them could contribute to us bossing the division like QPR did, obviously they weren't runaway leaders like Portsmouth & Newcastle have been, but they had players who were well matched to the division, quality players but no superstars like the ridiculous Beckham/Owen/Henry distractions of last season, perhaps that was the influence of the ex-owner Cronus Sports Management, who seemed to want nothing more than to make a quick buck in the Far East I won't pretend to know too much about the South African lad, but none of the others will take months to settle in & apart from being linked with Johnson/Woodgate, none of them are ageing injury prone stars, some of them know the division and have proven themselves, some of them are the cream of the crop & presumably hungry from League 1 All in all I'd take players like CMS over the likes of Owen any day of the week
MattyFromLE Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Big name signings? Pffft! I'd much rather sven spent months of in depth scouting, and buy players that have good technical ability and work rate to match, than sign some over-paid "big signing" who is just here for a final paycheck.
FrankieADZ Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 if im honest I couldnt care less if we had big name signings or what, just as long as there decentish and are willing to give 110% every game
MC Prussian Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 I hope you won't be disappointed after today, drc.
drc Posted 27 June 2011 Author Posted 27 June 2011 I hope you won't be disappointed after today, drc. I'm just happy if we get as many signings as possible done for the pre season so the team can gel. Don't want august signings apart from maybe some of the players that we had on loan like Mee or Vitor as they already know the team.
googie Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Rutgerus Johannes Martinus Van Nistelrooij (Rudd Van Nistelrooy) Big enough name for you??
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Who cares how big they are it's about the quality!
millzi Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Rutgerus Johannes Martinus Van Nistelrooij (Rudd Van Nistelrooy) Big enough name for you?? The one that signed for Malaga a couple of weeks ago
googie Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 The one that signed for Malaga a couple of weeks ago Yeah it was a play on words
Fox92 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 I'm not to bothered with 'big name signings'. If they don't want to play for Leicester City Football Club, then we shouldn't be looking at them.
Candidcamera Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Big name signings are usually players past their best and this has to be crazy logic if City are to make the next few years as productive as we hope. Let these players prove themselves like they did under O'Neill. I have to say that all the talk of older players pushing us forward has to be questioned. We want players who want to win something. Hold the news so that we get what we need that's the best way.
ozleicester Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 If we dont sign Rooney and Messi and get Banks out of retirement..... SVEN OUT!!
millzi Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Yeah it was a play on words I know I know I know. Just saying
Danny the Fox 95 Posted 27 June 2011 Posted 27 June 2011 Giovani Dos Santos on loan? Linked up with Sven at Mexico! You never know?
